Late Night with the Devil (2023)
Good up until the ending, unfortunately.....
So lemme preface this with three facts about me...one, I don't think as many seem to here that I'm a professional movie reviewer. Two, one of the main reasons I watch movies is to take a break from real life so I don't nitpick every scene. Three, a good ending can make a film and a bad ending can break it.
That said, Late Night with the Devil truly is a unique movie. In short, a talk show host has a few guests on Halloween that include a man who doesn't believe in possession, ESP, ect... and a woman, who happens to be the girlfriend (although that's not public knowledge) who is treating, and adopted, a young girl who lived in a house that was filled with the occult, and a cult who worshipped the devil. She is..."affected", lets say, and the woman is trying to help her.
I'll leave it there, as I don't want to spoil anything that happens, but in my opinion, the movie kept my interest the whole way through and then....the ending happened and ruined it.
If you have about an hour and a half to kill and just want something you don't have to think too hard to figure out, the movie really IS enjoyable up until the very end. Not a waste of time, it is fun up until the conclusion, but MAN......if they had a good ending this movie would have been a solid 8.
Saw X (2023)
Back to the formula, but.....
Brief plot: our old friend John Kramer is still sick, but gets word that there is a miracle cure, underground, that can cure his brain cancer. He pays the money, goes there, and manages to find out it was a scam to make bucks off of desperate people. I'm not spoiling anything, as this happens in the first 20 minutes or so.
Ok, so first the good. I loved the original Saw movie when it came out, then feel as though they just made too many sequels. A couple were good, but most were 'eh". Liked Jigsaw, didn't care for Spiral. That being said, Saw X gets back to the original formula....people mess up, wind up in a strange room in a "trap", and its up to them to do what they have to do to escape. The original formula and storyline make it fun again, but....
If you saw the original Saw, this is basically an hour and a half or so more of that movie. I wasn't "bored" exactly, but.....it was just more of the same......and although it's good they went back to it, it REALLY moved slow. You're just waiting to see when the next trap "challenge" will happen. And for whatever reason, the movie feels rushed with little to keep your attention. I am giving it a 5, and maybe that's a bit harsh and I just expected more, but I streamed it on Vudu and would REALLY have been disappointed if I paid 50 bucks at the movies for two tickets and some snacks.
Nefarious (2023)
Great acting, and the reviews here prove how "tolerant" liberals are...
Just saw this movie, and may I say other than Castaway with Tom Hanks, I don't remember a movie that has one or two actors that basically are on screen the entire time and never lose your interest.
Basically, Sean Patrick Flanery plays a man on death row for committing murders and and Jordan Belfi plays a psychiatrist who is there to determine if the killer is competent enough to be executed. Flanery's character claims to be possessed by a "demon", who is the "person" Belfi's character speaks with for the majority of the flick.
Let me get this out of the way first....if you're a liberal in the typical liberal fashion these days (i.e. You're tolerant of "all views" as long as all those views match yours), you will NOT like this movie. It makes some points that may cause you to feel as though you're looking at the screen as a mirror that reflects views that cause you to, at the very least, realize you may have some rethinking to do (if you're open minded).
That being said, the acting is great, the script is great, and the "what's going to happen next" atmosphere is so thick you can cut it with a knife. For instance, the "demon" tells Belfi's character that he (Belfi's character) will do something (I'm not going to specify so as not to post a spoiler), and you find yourself wondering how that will be done...I know, that sounds vague, but trust me, the outcome will make you say, "OH, wow, ok, I get it now".
The ONLY complaint I would have is there is a segment towards the ending of the movie involving the psychiatrist on a talk show that, in my opinion, goes a little too long, but then the very ending makes up for it with a little "turn" that is awesome.
If you want to see a thriller that is character driven and you can look at a movie as a MOVIE, and not get all upset if there are things presented that don't agree with your personal real-life views (you know, be "tolerant"), you will most assuredly love this movie. Go see it. And ENJOY it. Its a MOVIE. That's all. And a REALLY good one at that.
Fala Comigo (2016)
Not bad, but hypocritical reviews here are expected...
Odd that you have a movie where a 43 old woman gets with a 17 year old boy, and its reviewed as a regular movie, yet if it was a 43 year old man involved with a 17 year old girl, the reviews would be full of disgust. Expected, but sad.
Anyway, the story is about a 17 year old boy who has a mother who is a therapist. He listens to the female patients on the phone and pleasures himself. As fate would have it, one of the women, who has just left her husband, think its him calling (because apparently she couldn't ask her husband if it was him calling and not speaking), so she somehow is feeling good about a silent call. Once she finds out who it is, she's disgusted and horrified but, of course, not too disgusted and horrified to not pursue the kid. It's painted in this film as a woman who enjoys the attention she wasn't getting (of course it is, welcome to "equality 2023), and the challenges the both face (which not surprisingly is not only he's a 17 year old boy and she's a grown woman, but again, welcome to "equality" as we know how that would have been portrayed if the sexes were reversed).
In the end, its an ok movie, but I and many others just are tired of the hypocrisy of groups who claim to want "equality" yet really get preferential, double-standard treatment, and this movie is yet another example. Sad.
The VelociPastor (2018)
A solid 10, with "10" being the best horrible movie I've watched in years! FUN
I knew at least one person would review this and bash it, but those are just sad people who can't enjoy things and instead have to find fault and can't just relax.
This movie is the cheesiest, dumbest, most absurd movie I've seen in years, and I have NO issue recommending this to everyone I know.
The plot? A pastor that turns into a velociraptor and.uses this power to fight crime, after getting that advice from a hooker. I mean, SERIOUSLY, IF THAT DOESN"T CONVINCE YOU TO WATCH THIS, NOTHING WILL!
If you can just enjoy a movie BECAUSE its so bad it's good, then this should be on your bucket list to see.
Prey for the Devil (2022)
AGAIN, good movie that doesn't try to be a cinematic masterpiece
Still tired of seeing reviews from people who I truly believe want to be professional movie reviewers (or think they already are) and feel as though finding negative things to say is the way to get there. It's not.
Prey for the Devil is NOT meant to be "Ben Hur" quality film making. Its a "scary movie" in the sense that those of us that like that type of film watch those types of film because its FUN. Prey is FUN.
The story is about possession of course, and the eerie atmosphere kicks in soon after it starts and continues on until the closing credits. If you are a horror/scary/thriller film fan, you will enjoy this. If you are convinced a movie needs to be in the same category of the greatest movies ever made, PLEASE, stop going to see and ESPECIALLY reviewing movies like this and stick to those that bore the rest of us with social messages that you are required to applaud (I don't need to be taught social issues when I go to a movie, because that's what many of us to do get AWAY from the daily drama of life nowadays), or go see a movie that is made to be a.masterstroke of film making. The rest of us will go see films like this and actually enjoy life.
Orphan: First Kill (2022)
AGAIN, not supposed to be a cinematic masterpiece
Yet again, people review movies and want to believe they are professionals and seem to think reviewing a movie such as this under the pretense of it supposing to be some type of epic film for the ages is so tiresome. If that's a persons attitude, stick to documentaries and films that portray themselves as films in the same category of The Godfather and Ben Hur.
Orphan: First Kill is a REALLY fun movie. There is a big twist just after the middle of the film, which is rare, and it certainly is not expected. It definitely adds to the plot, as its a twist that leads the film in a VERY different direction as far as the characters involved.
If you haven't seen the original Orphan, don't worry....you'll be caught up pretty quick as to what she's about, and why she is where she is at the beginning of this movie. The movie moves at a great pace, with no lulls in the story. Everyone in the movie plays their character well, and Isabelle Fuhrman, who is 25 in "real life", plays the part of the lead character VERY WELL.
In summation, if this is your type of flick, you will definitely enjoy it, and in my opinion, even more than the first one if you saw that. If you are a 'wannabe Roger and Ebert" type people who can't just relax and enjoy a film, please......skip this movie.
Nope (2022)
Not meant to be a cinematic materpiece
PLEASE, can someone start blocking the people on here who have decided they want to be professional movie critics and therefore must bash anything that isn't "artsy" or "socially aware"?
"Nope" is a fun movie. FUN. It's got laughs, some scares, some suspense, and did I mention its FUN? It's another movie by a guy who seems to enjoy making us wonder what's going to happen next and fill a movie with tension, and if you're a fan of that type of film, you'll enjoy this. It's a science fiction movie mixed with humor, and doesn't attempt to be "The Godfather" or "Ben Hur".
The basic plot is centered around UFO's, where one set of people are afraid of the unknown, and another decides there's some way to make money off of the "visitors". I found the movie enjoyable and didn't drag at any time. While some say the beginning 30 minutes or so were more engaging than the rest, I suggest the first 30 minutes set up the plot and gives you the idea of what's happening, and the rest of the movie sets into motion the events and reactions to these events.
In summation, ENJOY MOVIES. If you aren't able to just have fun at a movie, and expect movies such as "Nope" to be some type of Oscar winning film, please....do us all a favor and stay home, or maybe go see a documentary that reminds of you the "real life" things going on that the rest of us do things such as watching a movie to get away from "real life" for a couple of hours....and of course eat some fresh popcorn.,
Pretty Cheaters, Deadly Lies (2020)
THESE AREN'T MOVIES GOING FOR AN ACADEMY AWARD, PEOPLE
I am so tired of seeing people bash movies and write a review as if they are are directors and producers. What's even more tiresome is movies on the LIFETIME MOVIE NETWORK that are reviewed as if the movies on this network are made in order to be in the race for an Academy Award.
This movie, like just about all the movies made for this channel, is not filled with amazing locations, incredible top tier actors, and a mind blowing plot. If you are looking for that, don't be so voluntarily inane to expect to see that on the LMN.
The movie has a simple plot....a girl gets caught in a compromising position by her cousin, and the cousin uses that info as blackmail to get her cousin to do all her schoolwork for her in order to get into a prestigious university. The movie is just fine, you wind up not liking the "villain", and karma winds up...well, watch the movie.
There is one scene involving a school computer that is a bit unbelievable, but unless you are one of those I describe who can't just watch a movie and enjoy it, the idea of what is done in this scene won't bother you in the least.
Again, if you or anyone else here is waiting for the next "THAT'S THE BEST MOVIE I'VE EVER SEEN!" flick, and you're watching LMN, you need someone to help you explain why you're in the wrong place.
If you're one of the many people nowadays that make themselves feel better by finding negative things to say about things or people, please....go away.
If you just want a guilty pleasure to waste away a night on the sofa, this movie is just fine.
Sinfidelity (2020)
Typical female hypocrisy
A woman cheats on her husband, and the movie (and female reviewers here of course) portray her as a victim.
Same movie with the genders reversed and it would be, 'That's what he gets for cheating! She should leave him.'
Such is todays world.
Archive 81: What Lies Beneath (2022)
Blah ending
Not sure how the ending could have been done to satisfy those who watched the whole series but this ending was not it, IMHO. Basically it's starting over just now with the main character. Disappointing.
Dexter: New Blood (2021)
Some people just like to complain
Finished this series, and unlike the very last episode of the original series, this ending put everything in a nice little package. I won't spoil it, but for those that read the negative reviews (I especially laugh at the '1's), don't worry about it. Some people just WANT to complain, and they will always find something to bash. Loved it, and it was good to see my buddy Dexter again.
The Mule (2018)
Decent....
Not a bad movie, but I find it confusing and anyone can give this a 10. To each his own though. Worth watching on a rainy day for sure. Good story, although to me it moved a little slow.
Life (2017)
Relax, it's just a movie not a science class
I find far too many people unfortunately don't allow themselves just to relax and have fun. The numerous reviews questioning logic and science mistakes in the movie make me feel sorry for those that can't just relax and enjoy themselves. Not the best type of movie in this genre that I've ever seen, but far from the worst. Definitely worth watching if you're capable of just suspending belief and actually enjoying a movie for what it is... Not real life, Just a movie.
Horrible Bosses (2011)
VERY funny.....
VERY funny movie. I understand there are many on here who are critic- wannabes who can find SOMETHING wrong with EVERY movie, but if you want to relax, laugh, and are capable of enjoying yourself, this movie is absolutely what you should see. LOTS of laughs, some physical comedy, and who hasn't had a boss that has driven them crazy in the past?
All of the characters are funny, and you will identify with at least one or two. Again, if you want to laugh, watch it. On a side note, it does get tiresome reading reviews from people who seem to revel in finding negative things to say about every movie except those which are made for "artistic value". Some of us actually go to movies to RELAX.
