Saltburn (2023)
Talented Mr Ripley without the Talent
Terrible, boring Talented Mr Ripley rip-off, without the talented writing or acting. Why are all these "edgy, dark" movies lately so praised? They seem like they've been written by a psychopathic 15 year old girl. The movie tries to be dark, but it looks and feels like a lonely, unhinged teen wrote it on poppers in the back of a bad disco. It's trying to be different and surprising, but it's just boring and pathetic. I miss the days when I left a film feeling something other than... eeew, why, terrible people, no protagonists, why was this made, who was this made for, why are people raving about this? I avoided spoilers and now... I wish I could get those two+ hours of my life back.
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts (2023)
The writing, the acting.. so so bad.
Almost every aspect of this movie was really, really bad. I don't know why it's so hard for modern day film makers to make a good movie these days. Remember the classics of the 90's? Do these writers/directors/studios think everyone is slow now? Is it the fault of the studios for only financing really unoriginal, bad ideas? Probably. This movie was boring, the writing was just awful, and the acting was terrible (a few of these actors have been good in other projects). I hate to single anyone out, but the female lead was as stiff and wooden as a tree stump. I don't just blame her though, again the writing and direction must have had a lot to do with it. She might be brilliant in anything else. The fact that this movie had a budget of millions and millions of dollars.... and ended up being this terrible.. I blame all the higher up's. From the top down.

Just... not good.
I love everything zombie. Everything. But the majority of characters in this are so damn stupid, unlikeable, selfish or just plain evil. I spent the whole series wishing they'd get eaten or turned because of how terrible most of the characters are. There was a couple of good ones. But the students you're meant to root for are just kind of awful and annoying.
Great effects and some great acting, but the characters are so... blah. I suppose that's the point though. Humans don't really deserve to survive since they suck so much. True in a way.
After We Fell (2021)
Emotional abuse at its finest
Jesus, I thought the books were bad enough but damn, this movie is pure emotional abuse and manipulation from start to finish. The books at least had a few character moments where you kind of understood why people were acting the way they did, but the movie skips over those and just focuses on Hardin being an immature, abusive brat and Tessa being an immature girl who takes the abuse with pleasure. Horrible example of even the most tumultuous relationship that can actually include love, empathy and respect. This is just immature abuse. Zero redeeming qualities. Could have been an interesting look at why traumatised people treat their partners poorly and how they learn to be better and treat themselves and their partners better, but no such luck. Also, as far as the books goes, this left out almost every important scene, particularly at the end. The absolute worst of the movies so far.
And all of these reviews saying this is the most true to the book, these people are high or insane or simply haven't read the book.
Halloween Kills (2021)
Waited three years, so excited, bit dissapointed.
I've been anxiously waiting for three years for this movie. I was hoping it would be brutal, sneaky and smart. I've only seen it once so far but I spent so much of this film yelling at the screen because the characters were being idiotic. "Just leave the house". "Don't waste all your bullets when you're far away and not aiming". "When you have him down, blow his brains out, cut his head off, then his arms and legs". Sadly, no one does anything intelligent so it's another scary movie where you spend the whole movie screaming at the screen for the writing and actors to be better/smarter. I hope I like it more on second viewing. The score was good. Michael was creepy. It just wasn't as brutal and smart as I hoped it would be. Aside from the bad writing and responses to terrifying, life and death situations, it was good.i hope halloween ends is smarter and more realistic.
9-1-1 (2018)
One of my favorite shows!
So entertaining! Might not be super realistic but it's super entertaining. The cast is great. You care about the characters and it's NEVER boring! Don't listen to the haters. They enjoy hating after all. Just watch and decide for yourself.
Revenge (2017)
Entertaining but completely unrealistic..
I could deal with how completely unrealistic this movie was (injury wise - sooo unrealistic) because it was reasonably entertaining for a while and I like a good revenge movie (if the protagonist is intelligent rather than lucky.. she was lucky.. Not smart). Then, the end, when they are running around in circles (which she damn well knows they are) and instead of stopping and turning around to shoot him she keeps running and slips in blood.. really?!?! Would have been much better if the deaths were methodical and thought out... but most of the scenes I just kept thinking "please be smarter than them"... but no - it was mostly luck. Could have been great with better writing. Plus side - great acting, particularly from the lead actress. Great cinematography- basically some quality writing could have made this a classic! Too bad.
Busanhaeng (2016)
Sooooo GOOD!!!!!!
This is one of the ONLY zombie movies where people do the intelligent thing! Smart, well written characters you actually want to survive because they don't act like blow up dolls with jello for brains. The most annoying part of any horror movie is the main characters responding to situations in moronic ways that no normal person would ever respond. No doubt Hollywood will soon remake it and lose everything that makes this movie believable/awesome. Regardless, this is a GREAT movie. This is an OUTSTANDING zombie movie. For every 50 predictable/annoying/poorly acted/directed/written/shot movies - this is the ONE worth watching!
