Retribution (2023)
I'm convinced ChatGPT wrote the script.
I don't know where to start.... The dialogues are bad, wooden, and cheesy. The acting is far from enjoyable. The characters are dull and absolutely undeveloped. There is no motivation for the bad guy I can find. The Police and "Europol" are far from realistic, and speaking of Europol: this is not a European FBI, as shown in the movies. And of course the way they show Berlin hurts to see. They drive down one street, the next turn he is 20km away in another part of the town.
I'm just happy I saw this in a sneak preview with cheap tickets, because if it was a regular screening with full price tickets I would have demanded a refund.
The Running Man (1987)
Entertaining 80s action movie
Set in the dystopian "future" of 2017/18 the USA has become a dictatorship. To keep the people distracted the TV produces and airs sadistic game shows in which people get tortured to win money. Running Man, the prime time game show, gives prisoners an opportunity to fight for their freedom. Literally.
But once Arnold is "cast" to participate on the show you know it's the last episode of "Running Man".
Losely based on the novel "Running Man" written by Richard Bachman (aka Stephen King) it only keeps the protagonists name and the premise of dystopian version of the USA. Entertaining, but without depth.
Also I highly recommend to read the novel as well. Way more intensive than this movie could have ever been.
Final Space (2018)
Good series.... Shame it ended too soon.
Ye be warned who start to watch this series. It's not made for children, like at all. Don't get fooled by the animation style. This series is for adults.
If you like weird sci-fi-fantasy watch this series as long as you have the opportunity as this will be gone for good in a short time!
It'll make you laugh, stare in awe, suffer, maybe even make you cry, but in good ways until...
Massive SPOILER:
... until the last episode, as the series ends unfinished with a massive (like a neutronstar the size of our solar system massive) cliffhanger. Nevertheless, it feels worth to watch it at least once.
FPS: First Person Shooter (2014)
One of the worst trash movies I've ever seen...
... or at least seen in parts.
Movies shot in first person need more than a hand holding a gun and lots of bad animated blood. They need some more action than a protagonist sneaking through a location and having "fights" with some cheap looking monsters.
Don't get me wrong: cheap must not equal bad. But this time it does.
For me the movie lacked some speed, some action (blood and gore is not action), and a bit more of a "plot" would not have hurt. I got so bored watching this piece of wasted time, I fast forwarded through only to find out that it goes on and on and on like it started until the end. Impossible to spoil it.
This is the first movie I could not finish, and usually I watch movies from start to end, no matter how bad they were.
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: Valiant (1998)
Cadets pretending to be elite officers...
... but in fact they are arrogant brats who overestimate their skills by a factor of 1000. And to put a cherry on top of this, the cadet first officer of the Valiant is not just named Karen but she also is a space Karen. (To all women named Karen: No offense.)
They are the most annoying bunch of Starfleet "officers" you'll ever see, and everytime the first officer opens her mouth you'll just want to shout at her to shut the ef up!
In case you still haven't seen this episode, Spoiler Alert!
From the moment "Captain" Waters informs Nog about their "mission" you can see their demise coming in with warp 9. And in the end when everyone except Nog, Jake, and their CPO Collins gets killed and/or vaporized I couldn't help to think "Finally, this Karen has shut up for good!"
El hoyo (2019)
Strange, violent, disturbing... but with a message.
Just saw this movie today because Netflix suggested this might be of interest for me.
The setting is claustrophobic, like in "Cube". Two persons in one cell waiting for the platform to come down with food (or the remains of food). There are several hundred levels, means twice as much people and all are hungry. The upper levels get food while the middle levels get some remains and the lowest levels get broken dishes without any remains. Once per month the "prisoners" get sedated with gas and are put into another level. That's the whole concept of the strange place in which the protagonist wakes up.
Every person in this kind of prison is there by choice, either to get something as reward (or in return), to avoid regular prison or to prove something to someone.
Some scenes where very disgusting for me like when they have to eat the remains of food on which the upper levels spilt their body-fluids on or when the protagonist has to eat chewed human flesh to stay alive.
The thing which makes it more than a splatter-gore-psycho-horror is that it tries to deliver a message. The message of "Sharing is caring" to say it very simple.
Well produced, minimalistic movie (due the few actors and the same set during the whole movie), but nothing I have to watch more than once.
Starship Troopers 3: Marauder (2008)
Better than part 2 but still more satire than real sci-fi.
I've read Heinleins book 2 times because it is thrilling good sci-fi. In the book we have Johnny Rico fighting alongside his fellow soldiers in battlesuits that are described as big mechanical gorillas, each with the power of a whole regiment. If they are standing and fighting shoulder by shoulder it means they have 300 yards between each trooper, because of their fire power.
The original movie from '97 was ok, compared to the book but lacked the battle suits. But it still is a classic sci-fi-action flick which I like.
Forget part 2 since it s*cks big time. Part 3 is slightly better than 2 and finally brings up the idea of the battle suits (the marauders) but in such a bad CGI, that I can't help but to laugh every time I stumble across this movie in TV. Bad actors, worse CGI and the only thing that makes this movie watchable is that it is a parody of a parody.
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
Epic conclusion to 11 years of earths mightiest heroes!
No Spoilers, no clues to the plot! Promised!
But if you are a human being with (some) "feelings" you could need some tissues! Because when you realize that it's over, then you may shed some tears of joy and sorrow.
