After Death (2023)
Much More than a Documentary
Other reviews have covered the movie very well, but one point I would add is that it is more than just a "cold hard facts" type of documentary. Throughout the movie there are several people who died and were revived later. They share a description of their experience, but more than this they connect the experience to what their lives had been up to that time and how the experience changed their lives afterward.
It's rated PG-13 because not everyone who has died has had a "heaven" type of experience. From the scientific data provided in the film, 23% of people that report an NDE do not have a good experience. Two people provide such stories in the film and it could be frightening or disturbing to children. I think the rating of PG-13 is appropriate for that reason.
In the film one person comments that the death rate for humanity is 100%, so everyone should have a personal interest in this subject. Everyone will find out eventually what follows after death, and the film gives you something to think about!
Lifemark (2022)
True story about lives impacted by choices
We viewed this movie during an evening with friends. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I am very happy to have seen this movie. I understand it is based on a true story of an adoption and the lives of those who were touched by the events surrounding it.
The movie helps us to realize that the decisions we make will impact others in ways we could never imagine. Maybe that's the source of the name of the movie. It also helps us to realize that healing is not only possible but also available after making bad choices.
It's a wonderful movie and I highly recommend it. Compared to many other movies, it's definitely one not to miss. It's not just "entertainment." You leave this movie thinking about the story and how it can apply to your own life.
The Case for Heaven (2022)
Good film, but doesn't stay on track with theme
I've read the wonderful book by Lee Strobel, and found it provided answers to the many questions that people have about what happens after a person dies, and what heaven is like if it's real. I was excited to hear about a movie based on the book and did not want to miss it.
I found the movie very good and would recommend it to anyone. A concern is that the movie did not seem to be on-track with the "case for heaven" as the book, and at times it deviated into areas that were not in the book. Occasionally I found myself asking, "How does this support the case for heaven?" The answer was not clear to me. Also I noticed that several topics in the book (such as whether there is evidence for reincarnation instead of heaven) was not mentioned at all.
Is it a good movie you should see? Yes. Does it represent the material in the book well? Only partially. So even if you see the movie, be sure to read the book as it contains so much more I wish had been included.
