I Feel Pretty (2018)
Above all, just isn't funny
17:31 minutes, that's how far I got. And in that short span of time this movie failed to show me even one good scene. In fact, the first 17 minutes of this movie feel like one long intro where every scene is supposed to make us understand that Renee is indeed an ugly duckling and that the whole wide world is against people that aren't a size 0.
I don't know what this movie is trying to achieve? Maybe a bit of 'The Devil Wears Prada' mixed with Shallow Hal? At any rate, it wasn't succesful.
I'm all for body positivity but in this film they just force it so hard down your throat that it fails to actually leave a message. And whether you're a die-hard feminist or not, or a big Schumer fan or not. It doesn't matter because, above all, this movie fails to be funny.
The Party (2017)
It works in a weird way
I saw this movie at the local filmclub and afterwards I heard a lot of mixed opinions. Nobody hated it but with a lot of people it just didn't work.
I liked it but have to admit it had a bit of a weird side. The combination between drama and comedy works in weird ways, in the end it works as long as you just don't take the film too seriously.
My favorite character was abviously April (played by Patricia Clarkson) who delivered some brilliant one-liners ("Please tell me you're not meditating, Gottfried. Pull yourself together!")
The movie is only 70 minutes so if you feel like this could be something for you definitely give it a try. It won't be your all-time favorite but it will be sure to give you a few good laughs.
