The Famous Five (2023)
Abysmal
Another shameless example of trading on a name. This is the Famous Five in name only. If they didn't want to adapt the actual stories then they should have given the characters original names and made the story they obviously wanted to tell.
The original 70s series frequently played fast and loose with the stories due to trying to the need to fit them into 30 or 60 minutes, but even at their worst they still felt like the Famous Five. This monstrosity feels nothing like the Famous Five.
Don't waste your time with this and encourage them to make more. Go watch the 70s version on Britbox or better yet, go read the books (the proper uncensored versions).
Jaws: The Revenge (1987)
Fun if you don't take it seriously
Despite all the negative reviews this film isn't all bad. Is it silly and implausible? Yes. Is it Shakespeare? No.
The shark looks faker than ever, but even in the original Jaws it looked dreadful. The series as a whole has always been silly to some extent.
People regularly mention the shark's impossible roar as though that is something unique to this film, but it was vocal in previous films too. Don't let it bother you.
Michael Small's reinterpretation of John Williams' Jaws theme and the soundtrack as whole are the highlight of the film and well worth seeking out of you're a fan of soundtracks.
In a world where a film like Sharknado not only exists but has five sequels this is positively a classic.
If you don't take it seriously then it's a fun way to pass a lazy Sunday afternoon.
