A Cult Classic

Sukumar is very wise. His ideals are quite different from others. How different it means is ….. the movie will be confused, if he makes the movie in a different mood. Should run along with him and should think alike him. The movies Arya, Jagadam, Arya 2, 100% Love…. are all in the same way. Sukumar made a habit of thinking in a different manner, very far from the general audience. That's his Positive aspect. But now that positive aspect proved to be Negative, with his latest movie "1". Frankly, the movie is very new and looks to be different. The Telugu audience has never seen such a different story previously and even Mahesh has never performed such a role earlier. But audience should be able to understand this new aspect. If it is like a sort of enigma, the movie tells us about the result. The Story is ………

Gautam (Mahesh Babu), a rock star. He rocks the audience with the musical world of his songs. He has some flash-back. Unfortunately, he doesn't know the past. But haunted. He makes illusion that someone is going to kill him. In that aspect, he kills someone and surrenders himself. But the strange thing is that what he thinks he had killed someone is also an illusion.Doctors confirm that he has some mental illness. In this confusion, he leaves for Goa. There he comes across his illusion ed chasing man(killed). Sameera (Kruti Sanan) who is a reporter follows Gautam. She tries to know about Gautam's past. In Goa also, attacks take place on Gautam. There he understands, who are attacking him and why they are attacking him. Gautamki has a flash back. Someone killed her father. Now , they are trying to kill him. Gautam , now has two main issues. Who are his parents? Who killed them? How he came to know about these things? Who said about that? All these should be watched on the silver screen.

There is a lot of confusion in the story. You may not hold all of them immediately. So, we explained the story in this simple manner. This is a psychological thriller. Its an another angle of the Surya's movie Ghajini. Ghajini forgets once for every 15 minutes. Here Gautam, feels the reality as an illusion and illusion as a reality. The story runs on this theme. There are a lot of riddles in this story, which really confused the audience. In comparison to first half, second half is more confusing. It seems that Sukumar might have left his hold on the steering, in the confusion of driving the story. With this, the confusion still increased a lot. It is very funny, to see that nobody comes to the rescue , if a rock star runs and kills someone on the London roads. In a movie , we should not earn such logic, but for a intellectual like Sukumar, how it is possible to make a movie without such simple logic. The climax drama of the film, that took place between Nasser and Mahesh is still ridiculous. But, after all the Movie is about Mahesh, so anyway, audience will sit in the Theatre to see his Handsome face.

This is really the Director's inefficiency. He is unable to understand how to utilizes a Star like Mahesh. He should make movies with brilliance. But ,if a movie is made with so much brilliance, then it becomes a Kangali. As it is felt that the movie brings Sankranthi, two days before, now its great if it stays till Sankranthi.

comedy is the king

Shankar Narayan (Prakash Raj) is a political leader and a man of masses. He wants his son Ajay (Mahesh Babu) to become a political leader. Shankar Narayan is hurt in an accident and goes into coma. Meanwhile Ajay grows up and goes onto become an aggressive cop. And suddenly Shankar Narayan comes out of coma. The rest of the story is all about how Ajay manages to keep the changes under wrap for his father, and takes revenge on the villains at the same time with some unconventional ploys.

Mahesh Babu proved himself again that he is a director's actor. He has a big heart to allow Brahmanandam to take center stage for a few minutes, though it is Mahesh who creates such situations. One should have a flair to time the comedy of Seenu Vytla and Mahesh does it effortlessly. Mahesh is one of the comedians when he is with Brahmanandam and MS Narayana. Mahesh Babu has also excelled in dialogue delivery by mixing Telangana accent in villain confrontation scenes. Mahesh Babu's trade mark teasing romance works big time in Turkey episodes. You see Mahesh being cheerful and smiling in most of the parts of the film.

Samantha has a limited role in this movie and she does justice. Brahmanandam has a dialogue in the film Vytla is one of very few directors who utilizes the talent of Brahmanandam to the maximum extent. All those Brahmanandam lovers will have another feast in this movie in which he acts an actor of a fictitious reality show. The way Brahmanandam keeps expressions for 'bheebhatsamaina humanity' dialogue and the scene in which he appeals to Nagarjuna Akkineni using his camera pen is priceless. MS Narayana who has excelled as fire star in Dubai Seenu does another similar role in which he wants to make his debut as hero opposite Genelia. Prakash Raj is seen in a positive role (inspired by PJR) and he is excellent. Vennela Kishore does the role of Sastry whose grandmother is a fortuneteller. Nassar has done a comic role for a difference.

The basic concept of a person going into coma and that person's son creating artificial atmosphere around is inspired by a German film titled 'Goodbye Lenin! (2003) '. That German film is a serious film and somewhat boring (for me). The story writer Gopi Mohan used that plot and molded it to make an entertaining script. Seenu Vytla's main strength has always been entertainment and he made sure that there are ample characters to create humor. He used Brahmanandam and MS Narayanara effectively to create ample humor. Characterization of Mahesh Babu is done well and the director has also shown Mahesh Babu in new light with better comedy timing. Though the entertainment and action orientation is good, there are ups and downs in the narrative graph due to runtime and number of characters. Screenplay of the film is good. The screenplay techniques used on Prakash Raj taking revenge without knowing about it and Brahmanandam's crazy realty show will surely generate more commercial appreciation. Among all the characters, I feel that the character of Suman is not properly etched. It would have been more powerful if hero is introduced through the words of some other character, not through Suman's. And the death of Suman is also not justifiable. The following aspects of Seenu Vytla's trademark.

Message with style

Harsha (Mahesh Babu), who is the feather bedded son of multi- millionaire Ravikanth (Jagapathi Babu), is a business minded person. He's such a good Samaritan that he always wanna help the needy, over the complications caused by others. Meanwhile, he falls in love with Charuseela (Shruti Haasan) and the complications start when Charu tells a secret about his father. Harsha leaves to Devarakota to solve the issues, instead he adopts the village and starts developing it. That's when he comes across Shashi (Sampath Raj) a local goon and starts mounting upon a small problem. The path the movie takes as the director attempts to find common ground between the two types of personalities is what makes the movie that much more interesting in the end.. Star Performance

It's a one man show Mahesh Babu steals the show with his performance. In full contrast to his image, Mahesh seen as an out and out classy with some Massey shades. It is very evident that Harshavardhan character is very close to Mahesh's heart and gets into the skin of the character. And his cool dance moves deserves a special mention. Shruti Haasan is also effective in her role and sizzled with her moves in the Dhimmathirigae songs. Rajendra Prasad and Jagapathi Babu are promising in their short roles. So is the others in the shorter roles includes Sukanya, Sivaji Raja and Tejaswi Madivada who are not here in archetype characters who just talks the standard lines. Ali's presence guarantees some fun, if not too much. Vennela Kishore and Rahul Ravindran cameos that has a bearing on the story. Poorna is pretty in her traditional attire. Techinical Team

The climax is also shot without any clarity and remains another engaging episode of the movie that comes to sudden stop. Questions en ti sir.. etc are good deserves some applause.

Srimanthudu takes some time to settle and once the backdrop is set the movie moves on in a reasonably decent narrative structure. The not so watertight screenplay by Koratala Siva make it an uneven ride, but there are some very remarkably written elevation sequences. Even here few scenes remind us that this is rather a meek gallimaufry of situations from quite a few films in the past like Bageeradha, Brindavanam, Dookudu, Janani Janmabhoomi, Dil, Athadu.etc. The other major highlight of the movie is Madhie's camera that gives an fresh prospective to every shot. The way Madhie handled the long shots post the fight sequences shows his Midas touch. The tunes of the 6 songs composed by Devi Sri Prasad are fine while "Charuseela" and "Jagore Jagore" are expected to be the chart toppers. The background score provides all pep needed for this film. The movie is a little lengthier at two hours forty three minutes and towards the end loses the plot forthright. The final appears hurried and looks out of sync with the flow of the narrative. Editor Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao could have easily cut short the film by 20 odd minutes. Production Values of Mythri Movie Makers" are grand.

Director Koratala Siva's Srimanthudu has every ingredient that you ask for from a commercial entertainer. From action, romance, humour, melodrama, songs, dance moves to emotional sentiments, there is a bit of it all to make things sufficiently spicy. But only if you go for the film without much expectation, Srimanthudu may turn out to be a watchable fare at best. The film's real trump card, is Mahesh Babu who has given a tremendous performance in the lead role. But the directorial lag is evident in many scenes even though Koratala Siva just manages to make them engrossing. On the whole, Srimanthudu will surely be a treat for the actor's fans despite being tagged as a social themed film, the movie has some good emotional sequences which will touch fans hearts.
