The Detective from Beledweyne: Episode #1.3 (2023)
Season 1, Episode 3

Good story, but what a witch!
14 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The stories are interesting, but the main female character is so unlikeable that you just want to slap her! She uses everyone, and doesn't really care about the asylum seekers who need compassion and care. She isn't the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree, either, and can't do her job without the help of one of the refugees in the detention center. And once the poor guy helps her, she turns her back on him.

The show is worth watching, but I can almost guarantee that you will want to throw something at your TV over and over. As my husband said, Martin Beck would have had her locked up for the stuff she pulled!

Are you kidding me?

We consider this highly ridiculous show to be "summer watching," because of the summer hiatus of other shows. And we've watched every British or European show that appeals to us. It is just ludicrous! I just watched Eve touch a corpse, then take a phone call and touch her earpiece and hair. Really?! And the fact that she is doing autopsies wearing only a lab coat and gloves is laughable.

A bit earlier in this episode, there's a riot in a prison, a body is found, and Eve is brought in WHILE THE RIOT IS STILL GOING ON. Apparently her life isn't valued at all.

If you have nothing else to watch, and you're not into accuracy, give this a shot.

What utter crap!

Another reviewer said this started as a police drama and ended as a Harlequin romance. So true! It's hard to believe that Lynda LaPlante wrote this garbage. Although "Lynda LaPlante" does sound like the pen name of a sleazy romance writer....

LaPlante's Prime Suspect was one of our favorite series, and of course anything that Helen Mirren is in is automatically worth watching. But Amanda Burton is not in her league, and never will be. At least Hugh Bonneville went on to do something worth watching with Downton Abbey.

Give it a pass; it isn't worth a couple of hours of your life. Actually, it wasn't worth the time it took me to write this review.

Don't bother!

First of all, how did the FBI decide that those five people had anything to do with the kidnapping? There isn't one word to explain that. Then you have an FBI agent who goes to the UK and horns in on an NCA investigation. That just doesn't happen! The "mystery" was easy to figure out, the acting wooden. Don't waste your time.

Stupid movie
9 March 2022
Four stars only for the all-star cast. About halfway through, I asked my husband, "What is the POINT of this movie?" He didn't know, either. A rambling mess of a movie. I love Harrison Ford, and we wondered why we never saw this when it came out. Now we know.

Seriously?
14 September 2021
OK, I'm American, not a Brit. But would the judge really allow the yobbos in the gallery to continue to yell and harass the defendant? Certainly in this country, the initial offender would be banned from the courtroom, and if the disturbance continued, the gallery would be cleared.

And do jurors in a high-profile case really walk out of the courthouse in front of protesters? They go home at night rather than being sequestered, and they are allowed to read newspapers and listen to news reports about the trial?

The individual stories of the jurors are interesting, but the ridiculous portrayal of the courtroom ruins it for me.

Warning: Spoilers
Martha Bellamy is murdered, but the team behaves as if she were some random person. Baby-selling, rape...everything takes precedence over looking for Bellamy's killer. Ridiculous.

Americanized...
16 January 2020
We typically watch foreign TV rather than American because it's more realistic. We like Silent Witness at first, but it gets progressively more "Americanized' as the seasons progress. Sam Ryan is investigating crimes rather than doing autopsies. Don't they have many deaths in Cambridge?

We got about two minutes into this and abandoned ship. White subtitles on a light background just don't work.)

Worst yet
13 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Let's start with "why was SVU even involved with this case?" No sexual assault, Annabeth was an adult. And I just can't imagine cops deciding to commit perjury because they felt sorry for the defendant. The idea that anyone who fights hard deserves to live? Would they agree with that if the defendant was a child killer? This episode was so bad that we skipped from about 20 minutes from the beginning to 15 minutes before the end, just to see what happened. My husband got tired of SVU a couple of years ago, but continued to watch it for me. Unfortunately, I think I agree with him now.
