Great franchise, promising starting point, bad writing

I really have nothing against teenage adventures, they can be great fun. The franchise is great and the story is a continuation and not a reboot. I am all for social justice and representation, as long as it makes sense and it is vital to the story and not just for the sake of making a political statement. Unfortunately, in this series, it doesn't support the plot and story, as the protagonist(s) act absolutely to the contrary of what has been said and in part really nonsensical concerning their personal situation. Bad writing and no original ideas, as in so many new, old shows and movies today. Like, building up a plotline and then dropping it without any solution or explanation.
