The Flash (I) (2023)
3/10
A thorough and complete review of The Flash

Warning: Spoilers
Considering how much hype there was for this movie, claiming it was "one of the best superhero movies ever", it was really disappointing. This movie got more things wrong than it got right.

And the most disappointing thing is that this movie has been in development for 10 years and after exploring a lot of scripts throughout the years, they decided to settle on a weak story like this.

I liked only two things about the movie: 1. The plot about Barry's mother Nora and everytime they interacted it was very emotional, although I suppose I'm a bit biased about this because I have experienced this story for 9 years in The Flash TV show and I have developed a special attachment to this particular storyline; 2. The CGI of the running scenes were very interesting and well done.

However in the case of this movie, the bad outweight the good.

1. The people in the "memories" seen in the speed force throughout the movie when Barry is traveling in time literally look like video games characters, the CGI in those scenes is worse than the CGI in the last 3 seasons of the Flash TV show, and if anyone knows how bad the CGI was in those seasons, you'll understand how bad it was in the movie.

2. There is no explanation at all about how he got the name Flash, even though we know that he got it from the TV show Barry, and it just feels weird how everyone all of a sudden is calling him Flash, not to mention how there is no explanation how he has learned phasing and how he has chosen the name for it.

3. For a supposed Flash centered movie, it felt more like a team up movie between the Flash and other timeline's Batman.

4. Instead of featuring more interesting cameos, they chose some very bad ones.

5. The movie felt more like a comedy than it should have.

6. Sasha Calle didn't portray Kara Zor-El well, it was a weak performance.

7. Even though Grant Gustin and Melissa Benoist would have saved the movie somewhat and would have outshone Ezra and Sasha if they appeared as the Arrowverse's Flash and Supergirl because of their chemistry and just better overall portrayal of these characters, I'm glad they didn't appear, since the whole movie was a huge let down and people would have blamed them for the bad script that they would have been given.

If anything, the performances of Ezra and Sasha further cement Grant Gustin's and Melissa Benoist's performances as the best portrayals of Barry/the Flash and Kara/Supergirl so far.

I rate it 3/10.
