Wonderwell (2023)
Poorly written
All the actors were fantastic. I especially liked Rita Ora. But the movie went nowhere. There seem to be no story at all. It took me 3 days of stopping and starting this movie to actually watch it. And over an hour and 4 minutes into the movie still nothing had happened. The one thing they could have done better was with the special effects on the fantasy side. There was really nothing going on there. It would have been nice to see something completely different on the fantasy side so that there wasn't an actual choice to make. But the movie was boring despite having really great actors like Carrie Fisher. They could have done much much better with it.
Blonde (2022)
Best Marilyn Monroe Ever
Ana de Armas is literally the best Marilyn Monroe I have ever seen! There were times I couldn't tell her from the real one. Her acting is superb! She really SHOULD receive a best actress in a leading roll Emmy for this.
Adrien Brody, Bobby Cannavale and Julianne Nicholson gave outstanding performances. Other outstanding actors were under used in this movie. Instead the director Andrew Dominik chose to focus on lots of superfluous boob shots and vomit scenes.
The bad directing is the only reason this movie is not worth watching. With truly outstanding performers, even they could not save the horrible direction of this movie.
I thought it was directed by a first or second year film student. But, after watching the movie I googled the director. To my surprise he has actually directed other movies in the past; none of which I have seen.
I will have to watch a few of the others to find out if he is just a bad director or if maybe he was just intimidated by the lack of dialogue in the script and the subject matter of this movie.
Too bad he was the one who directed this movie. In other, more capable hands, this movie would have been a classic for all times.
Elf Pets: Santa's Reindeer Rescue (2020)
A great Christmas Short
My family and I loved this little animated movie. We loved the mixed family and the optimistic message. This is sure to become a Christmas classic. I would recommend it to everyone with or without children. It's perfect.
Deliver by Christmas (2020)
An Instant Christmas Classic
Of course this movie has the normal Hallmark formula. But, it's different because of the choice of cast. The cast is outstanding. The set design is wonderful. And the directing and scripts are great. I would recommend this movie to anyone who loves holiday themed movies. I love that this movie has children who are engaged in the movie activities and not just props. I would love to see more movies like this come from Hallmark.
Lucifer: Wingman (2016)
Different Camera Angles - Why?
In Lucifer Wingman Episode the piano scene, Lesley-Ann Brandt was shot from an angle that looks up her nose making her nose the focus of the shot and making her nostrils seem much larger than they are. But, Chole was shot from face level which gave her face a much more attractive viewpoint. Was this done for any specific reason?
I truly love the show and think it offers believers a unique perspective. Of course, I know the show is for entertainment purposes only, but there are some very interesting view points that can be explored in each episode. Because of my beliefs, at first I thought the show would not be for me. But, I have found it entertaining and often us it as a topic of discussion with friends and family.
Upstairs Downstairs (2010)
This Was No Downton Abbey
I chose to watch this series because I loved Downton Abbey and Gosford Park, but Upstairs Downstairs misses the mark completely. For some reason the writers don't allow you to like or even care about any of the characters. It's not because of the large cast. Both of the ones I mentioned before have large casts. But, even though this series has really good actors they seemed to be miss casts. Many of the downstairs cast members seem as though they should be upstairs.
For example: Laura Haddock and Jean Marsh should have been upstairs. Although they are both fantastic actors I (because of their looks) I didn't buy either of them as downstairs staff for one minute. They both have the look of quality breeding and high born.
Eileen Atkins (who did such a great job downstairs in Gosford Park) and Jean Marsh should have switched rolls.
Ed Stoppard (although a very good actor) has the face of a villain and much of his character is written as a nasty cuss of a man. So, why would I care anything about what happens to this man and his family? This roll was miscast and poorly written if this was intended to be the lead male character.
Adrian Scarborough (also from Gosford Park) did a great job as did all the actors in the series. They did the best with what they were given. Too bad they were not given something better to work with. For this I blame the writers and the director.
Terminator Genisys (2015)
Outstanding Movie
This movie is as good or better than the first and second Terminator movies. Emilia Clarke was so outstanding that I had to Google her to make sure she was the person who also appears in Game of Thrones.
I am SO happy I never saw a trailer for this movie before watching it. Instead, I saw the trailer after the movie and it was so disappointing that the trailer gave away the entire movie. If any one is disappointed in the movie I will bet it is because they already knew what to expect before they saw it. What makes a movie entertaining for a lot of us is the element of surprise.
I loved that this movie had a lot of "call backs" for lack of a better term to the older versions. Classic lines from older versions such as, "I'll be back, and "Get out" were artfully used in this version.
This movie is what a sequel should be: It was a great reminder of the past movies but it was a strong movie all on it's own.
Kingsman: The Secret Service (2014)
Pretty Good
The movie is entertaining for sure. There is lots of action with a bit of tongue in cheek flavor.
The nod to 90's hip hop cartoon characters is pretty funny but, kind of out of place in the movie. Since I never see it in real life, I find anyone wearing a baseball cap sideways in movies really distracting.
Yes, there is violence in the movie. But, it is the type of over the top violence found in movies like Superman and Batman. There may be a bit more gore to the violence in this movie, but it still reminds me of the superhero stylized movies.
Still, I would recommend it to a friend.
Fifty Shades of Grey (2015)
Really Bad!
I really wanted to like this movie. I have not read the book so I was sure I would like it better than those who were disappointed because #notmychristian or something like that.
I don't understand how anyone thought this would be sexy. I have seen sexier on Television Series shows that showed less skin than this one.
I think the main problem is with the selection of actors for the main characters. While I am REALLY SURE they would be awesome in other rolls, the main premise of this movie requires certain types of actors to pull it off.
The script and directing were really horrible so I am not sure any actor could have made it work. And the ending???? Can anyone tell me what was supposed to be happening there? Did they just run out of film or were they actually trying to make a point??? I saw the unrated version on HBO. But, if I had paid good money to see this I would be demanding my money back for sure.
Noah (2014)
What?!
Who... thought this movie would every be any good? It had to look as bad on paper as it does in film.
What... were the writers, directors and most of all the producers THINKING? If they needed to loose money for tax reasons or something, all they needed to do was make a half decent movie with even more special effects. They still would have lost money but it wouldn't have been as painful for me to watch.
When... will Hollywood stop making biblical movies by people who don't have any relationship with the bible or with God?
Where... are the people who fact checked the script or even read the bible for any real reference to the story told there?
How... did they every convince anyone to give them money for this garbage? I would like their sales person to help me sell a bridge I have been trying to unload.
Why... did they waste time and money making this movie? Was there a bet involved and the film makers lost?
Exodus: Gods and Kings (2014)
What were they thinking?
This movie is just horrible. I blame the Director, the Writers and the casting Director. It would have helped if any of them had even bothered to stop and actually READ the portion of the bible they are attempting to portray.
I don't blame the actors. They did the best with what they were given to work with. But, some of them (even though they are awesome actors in the right sort of movie) should NEVER have been chosen for this movie at all.
**SPOILER ALERT**
Please tell me where I can find the scriptures in the bible that read...
"And God appeared unto Moses as an angry little boy."
"And thus Moses nearly drowned in the "parted" red sea but swam to shore."
Oh there are so many more inaccuracies. I can't count them all.
One of my favorite parts is at the very end when the freed slave woman has to walk around the angry little boy as God (who no one can see except Moses). My entire family and I laughed right out loud at that.
