Mortal Engines (2018)
LOTR With a Dash of New Hope
For this movie, it was the big bad evil tower formula of Peter Jackson that chocked the movie in the box office. On top of it, too many 2D characters with fake emotional outrage that the audience can't get attached to when they succeed or die. The movie is 2.5 hours and a solid one hour wasted on c plots that had no purpose. The Shrike character resemblance to Gollum were just too obvious. It's safe to say that Jackson's expense movies are over with.
Suspiria (2018)
Missed opportunity...
With all the artistic expression and camera angles, this remake doesn't even hold a candle to the original. It took 1 hour to set up the movie and by then I lost interest and snoozed until the movie was finally over. Somone also should've reminded the director when the movie is spoken half in German, you might place subtitles so people can follow.
Syrup (2013)
Great Choice!
Normally these romantic comedies have the typical storyline: boy meets girl, girl plays hard to get, boy/girl fall in love, boy/girl split up and boy wins the girl, roll the credits. But this movie tries to explain the storyline from a marketing perspective which is fresh and doesn't carry the typical romantic comedy storyline. This makes the movie a 7 out of 10. But the shortcoming is mixing a realistic boy with a unrealistic girl which it normally would never take place in a romantic comedy, but I suppose that's where the movie tries to make its point about the marketed relationship. Much respect to Amber Heard for making six as believable as possible.
The Nun (2018)
I'll have nun of this...
A huge let down, weak storyline being dragged with weaker side stories. Lots of jump scenes and after a while becomes predictable and stale. James Wann should've directed this one but probably rejected after reading the script.
How It Ends (2018)
Lots of Yapping...
Disaster movies without the budget to compensate for the actual disaster plot should be avoided.
While the start has a nice premise, it quickly changes into yappidy yap yap between actors with uninteresting dialogue. In fact, if the initial premise was removed, this would be a TV drama with failed viewership.
Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018)
This was Disney's version of Star Wars on Ice
Certain surprises can be a nice thing to add a little twist to the plot. Ron Howard on the other hand added a surprise that killed the Lucas prequel timeline.
I will give a hint by saying Solo in this movie is around 20 years old. In the New Hope, Solo is 30's and Ben Kenobi is in his 60's. And lastly, Kenobi was 20 years old in Phantom Menece.
