Must Love Dogs (2005)
Must Hate Dogs
Sitting in the movie with the people I reluctantly went with, I couldn't help laughing. Not just shorts spurts of laughing or giggling, but belly-laughing at how horrible it was. How so many people loved this movie, I will never know. The writing for this movie could have been done by a 15 year old without trying or a 12 year-old that was trying. The stupid, trying to be clever remarks were too obvious to stomach. The entire movie's plot is guessed in watching the trailer. The movie was written in an old style that is not right for our time. It takes us back to the days of movies when a character would say exactly how they felt and what they were thinking. Cinema veered away from simple phrases and hardly ironic quips because people don't really talk like that. So why do we go back to such a bland time? One of my personal favorites is, "I get sea-sick in the bathtub". Now normally that could possibly be delivered well. But, in this terrible excuse for a movie, they used that as a way for the character to be charming. When in fact, this movie simply sounds like it should have been released in the 1960's. I am not even going to get started on the old man's poem reciting. I was practically rolling on the floor of the theater at how ridiculous it was. Worst movie of the year (not saying much but still, it was bad). Don't waste your money on going to see this!
Empire (2005)
Empire Takes Us Back To Roman Times With an Exciting Thrust
After seeing the previews, I knew that this would be a keeper. Money well spent I say. The sets, the costumes, the fight scenes blew me away. The explosive cast offers a full spectrum, mixing into a joy to watch. After the first episode, I was hooked. In fact, by the first commercial I was hooked. Those who criticize it for its lack of historical accuracy are so far in scrutiny that they are unable to enjoy it for its entertainment value. The show happens to be very well made. The weakish ratings left me confused after watching Empire. This is not just another Gladiator. Its creativity in story shows the meaning of pioneer television. I commend the writers and producers for taking the creative freedom and inventing such interesting characters and plot twists. All in all, this is MUST SEE TV. Enjoy
