The Book of Boba Fett (2021)
Oxymoron
What do you call a bounty hunter that doesn't kill? A ruthless leader in a lawless territory with a reputation for mercy? A gang leader of teenagers on Skittles-colored scooters? How about "unemployed"? Or a boring Disney character created to sell merchandise.
The Black Hole (1979)
A good 50s sci Fi movie, but terrible for1979
Like someone else pointed out, it's very similar to 20,000 leagues under the sea. Unfortunately this movie came out 25 years later and two years after Star Wars. Special effects are horrible for the era, the acting is stiff--similar to the 1960s spaghetti westerns. Music is boring--no comparison to Williams score in Star Wars. It just felt like a cheap Disney attempt to capitalize on current space movie craze.
Silent Wings: The American Glider Pilots of World War II (2007)
Lacks details--fair overview
Narration and personal stories, such as from W. Cronkite, are great. The video also does a fair job of describing the result of each operational use, but otherwise is very vague on the glider program and equipment. But so much more could, and should have been discussed. How was the glider pilot training different from powered aircraft pilot, why two pilots, how did towing a glider affect the C-47 airspeed across the battlefield, what was the advantage of using a glider vs. straight airdrop from a C-47, how did they communicated between towed and towing aircraft? Rooney mentions "Saving Private Ryan," but there is no mention if the overloaded glider incident was a real problem in real life. Did anyone consider using Pathfinders to mark the LZ at night or why weren't the gliders dropped at much greater altitudes and range to take advantage of the silent approach? There is so much more that could have been discussed besides just personal accounts. Interesting but deserving of so much more.
Greatest Events of WWII in Colour (2019)
Typical sensationalized documentary with wrong stock footage
1. It is an interesting documentary to watch but sacrifices clearness of information for a more interesting presentation. E..G. The Battle of Midway starts by mentioning the cryptographer suspecting Midway will be attacked but is not believed. Then after the documentary starts narrating events, it goes back to explain how the cryptographer found someone to believe him and how they positively determined the target was Midway.
2. Worse is the typical war documentary put together by uninformed producers looking for nice videos. They often include video of something completely unrelated to the present narrative--probably guessing the viewer doesn't know any more about the subject than they do. Unfortunately that leads to confusing material and the lack of credibility in the whole message. E.G. During the Battle of Midway, the narrative is discussing the B-17 (heavy 4-engine bomber) attack, but shows video of C-47 (two-engine transports) and some other mid-size two-engine bomber that clearly did not participate in this battle. Another example is including video of Japanese two-engine mid-bombers during the Pearl Harbor attack--only single engine aircraft were launched by the Japanese in this attack.
The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance (2019)
Kids' movie acting with PG-13 theme
The Hobbit/Lord of the Rings movies are 10, The NeverEnding Story is a 9, but this show is more at the level of the 70's Land of the Lost. While I'm not a fan of overly digitalized movies, I think watching puppets in modern movies is about as exciting as watching a remake of Gumby's Claymation. More importantly, it has an interesting story and nice visuals, but the acting/dialogue is similar to HR Pufnstuf.
Disasters of the Century (2002)
Interesting events but lacking details
The events, interviews, and photographs/video are interesting, but each episode is too generic. The facts presented in each case amount to a short written paragraph. For example, the Cranbrook airport crash mentioned the open thrust reverser and the pilot not updating the ETA; however, there is no discussion on reporting requirements for arriving at uncontrolled airfields, who was supposed to update the driver on the runway, and what caused the thrust reverser to open.
