Action Hero Biju (2016)
Simple, Realistic and believable
The movie is set in kochi and its outskirts, and takes us through the life line of a Sub Inspector (almost one month in his rather ordinary but eventful life). No extravagant sets, no Punch dialogues, No high octane stunts. In fact it has nothing out of the ordinary, everything is shown as it is.But still its entertaining enough for those who likes a reality check every now and then. Nivin Pauly in his first outing as a police officer didn't disappoint, he presented a rather believable (than a applaudable) cop, there are some bits of goose bump moments just for the fans, but still overall a good transition from the lover boy(not saying that no one could have done it better than him). The ambiance of the police station is captured like never before, and the director Abrid Shine deserves a pat on the back for that alone.Director and scripters have also tried to highlight some social relevant issues too, which is very welcome. Our society definitely needs some reminders. The movie stays apart from the rest of the so called investigative thriller masalas with its innate simplicity and realistic portrayal of a cops life with all the positives and negatives and challenges faced. Surajs Venjaramoods cameo is one to be looked out for. Almost all of the supporting cast and other characters excelled in subtly.Even though the whole movie is just a chain of events with no connectivity what so ever, you never feel that while you are watching it, and that i think is the biggest merit of the movie. 80's feel of the songs will definitely win over some of us who are into melodies and things. Nothing was out of place and some drone/helicam shots did show a beautiful birds-eye of Kochi. Note: its not an out of the box movie but definitely one that steps over the normal boundary of cop flicks. Don't wait for the DVD's on this one, go in with zero hype and you will be entertained.
Nirnnayakam (2015)
NIRNAAYAKAM :- Entertainer--NO, Relevant--YES
Nirnaayakam is definitely not an entertainer, it is not for those who go in for the sheer pleasure of watching a movie in a theatre, it doesn't offer you anything of that sort. But it contains a very relevant message which needs to be passed on. So Watch it for just that. The writers Bobby and Sanjay has once again proved their mettle with a good script. It is like a wake up call to the people of Kerala. Coming to the actors, there is nothing flashy, everyone did their jobs well. Prem Prakaash requires a special mention. Asif Ali has matured as an actor. VKP did OK. I felt some problems with casting, especially that of sri. NEDUMUDI VENU, because his role in this movie very much resembles his role in the Tamil film ANNIYAN(starring vikram). Good movies(i mean script) like this fail to impress the audience because film makers fail to understand that Entertainment is as vital as the message if not more.
Jurassic World (2015)
Disappointed
All the excitement that i had going for this movie was vapourised within the first 20 minutes of action. You will definitely feel the disappointment if you have watched Jurassic Park as a kid. this movie lacks the thrill, it tries but fails to send chills down your spine. Overall each scene is predictable and you can almost foretell which all characters will make it through. I could even predict the climax before the first half of the movie!! There is a desperate attempt to garner nostalgia from old fans by bringing in characters from the Jurassic park movie(eg. T-Rex), i felt that the movie is a patch work of different Hollywood movies. If you watch closely you can clearly see the climax scene of 'how to train your dragon 2' and some parts from expendables franchise(just replace the actors with the dinosaurs, old action heroes returning in cameo), you will also get a feel of 'deep blue sea'. The tag team fight between the dinos in the last scene almost made me cry!! terrible.. even little kids in the theatre didn't feel the horror..
Premam (2015)
Premam: Refreshing and Entertaining
Alphonse Puthren proved that he is a bankable director.Casting is almost perfect. Brilliant cinematography.. The movie itself is not short but it's definitely sweet. The humour is light and enjoyable. Some may feel a little bit of drag in the first half, but i can say that the second half is worth the wait. It is a simple movie executed brilliantly. The music is very refreshing and all the songs except the last one is a visual treat.
Pros: Excellent direction and editing(the director himself is the editor). It is beautiful to watch. NiVin Pauly has played his role to perfection(all in performance by him) Good use of humour(Vinay Fort and P.T sir requires special mention, the combo is Epic).Sends you home feeling nostalgic.
Cons: Lengthy- Many unnecessary characters are given screen time- highly addictive B)
