Expensive junk
A worthless bauble. Good directors would have made 600 movies at this expense. Heavily overrated, probably the most overrated in the entire country. High time for someone to retire. Director is already overrated but for 3 films in his entire career. Background Music is annoying. Without that kind of money, marketing and hype by the team & the so-called fans, this would have suffered the deserved fatal blow. Akshay Kumar was roped in to make some more moolah i n the North and worldwide, nothing more for him to do there. Amy Jackson is somewhat a saving grace. Thank goodness the director did not give her the role of Tamil girl (like in his "I" movie!). Calls himself a director, could not even take care to see the actors' performances and lip-sync of dialogues (as usual, in his movies). This so-called social message is a known fact, and the funniest part is to look at the "message" and the producer! This cannot even be compared to Bahubali whose content was good, with good narration, good cast & performance and some good VFX though it still fell short overall. So, touting this to be India's best in VFX is hilarious. They should pay us for watching this one.
Aruvi (2016)
EXCELLENT and a movie that stands APART from the rest
Aditi Balan - at last, someone who could really ACT without any NONSENSE, skinshow and ado. Hats off to the director Arun Prabhu for NOT making it as -yet-another-masala-entertainer-for-the-'mass'. FINE performance by ALL the cast. And the brilliant sarcasm on many of the fit-for-nothing stuff in the industry that existed before and are now !!!!! Kudos to Bindhu Malini & Vedant Bharadwaj for music that aptly portrays the sensitivity, sarcasm and thoughtfulness of the movie without jarring or being unpleasant to the eardrums.
So-won (2013)
This movie is a global reference on HOW such a story needs to be handled!
First of all, KUDOS to the director for keeping it gore-free. And thanks to him for such a DECENT, SENSITIVE and yet POWERFUL portrayal of a real-life incident without all the unnecessary elements. OMG! the way he handled a delicate topic very effectively and efficiently!! Any other (insensitive) director would have butchered the script and screenplay. WOW! Take a (lots of) bow, the ENTIRE CREW. EXTREMELY emotional. NEVER once did the director steer away from the subject. This EASILY TOPS as the BEST movie to WATCH in the history of world cinema. I'm already using this movie as benchmark and bashing other movies that they are not up to this movie's mark! Such is the impact of this movie on me.
There is no 100/10 on IMDb. Otherwise, my rating for this movie is exactly that and may be even more because 10/10 seems to be blase after watching this movie.
Even the little boy who cries towards the end for not accompanying the girl on that day, was so powerful histrionics-wise, that I'm BOWLED over by all the performances!! SPELL-BOUND! All the 3 lead actors DESERVED an Oscar each. I will give away one to each of them, really. The music was sensitive and seamless too, without jarring your ears. And coming back to the story, I cannot believe this was an actual incident that happened.
The scene between the father and the daughter at the hospital when he tries to shift her to another room is very touching! The emotions choke you because truth is always bitter. How the community chips in to help in every which way they could, is a revelation!
And WHAT the heck do you say about the JUDGE for going "easy" on the pervert bastard?! HE should have been the first one to be beaten to death. Does not he even have the basic IQ to analyze that the pervert criminal had all the time and "sanity" of the brain to plan this and leave her to death? No matter where you are, women and children have to be careful, they cannot rest on the immoral judges or ridiculous judiciary system or the spineless police force. I could not digest the sentence or the judge's words. And what a BRAVE girl is she! HOPE she is safe, sound and happy, even after the pervert is released.

This movie belongs in a DIFFERENT LEAGUE.... HIGH up there.......
***May contain spoilers***
What's a Bollywood movie without songs / sex / violence? A WINNER and surely this one. This movie is NOT for the regular masala-movie freaks and theater-goers for the freaking sake of entertainment, time-pass and hangout. This one is how a movie SHOULD BE. With no bells and whistles, this one solely depends on the actors and the director and the way the story moves. We watched it here in the USA. Although the theater did not have much audience, we were undeterred to watch it just because the trailer was promising enough. The DIRECTOR has DELIVERED it - EXCEEDING my own expectation that this movie should be a good one.
The first half leaves you DUMBSTRUCK. SRK as Gaurav takes you to a world of ecstasy and trauma. Aryan Khanna is chillingly egoistic, cold, brutally realistic and yet not a wolf-in-sheep's-clothing. If you think SRK as Gaurav takes the cake, SRK as Aryan competes. I'd rate the second half not as stunning as the first one but still does NOT DEVIATE from the rhythm of the story anywhere. It portrays 2 windows of the same world and brings out the stark reality of those two. The only qualm is that one of the stunt scenes is a bit over- the-top (but still not as unrealistic as what you have seen before in some big-budget movies) and this is where, I guess, the director could have thought they needed it desperately for the Indian audience. The film is a FINER one even without it!! But Kudos to the director Maneesh Sharma for respecting the sanctity of the story and keeping it neat and clean without unwanted songs or scenes. Andrea Guerra chips in with some STUNNING background music that befits the story perfectly. I was expecting the JABRA song in the first 20 minutes of the movie after which I expected it only in the credits BUT was SURPRISED when it did not even appear in the end! Kudos to the director again, who only shot it for promotion!!
But UNFORTUNATELY when these are the kind of movies that ought to be the money-spinners, they are not.
Gaurav bowls you over with his effervescence, loyalty and impractical, immature fan-dom but later turns devilishly vindictive who would stop at nothing. In one specific scene, SRK, simultaneously, sizzles as the heartbroken Gaurav AND the cold movie star.
Shah Rukh was almost crucified for his past 3 movies but he bounces back STRONGLY and PROVES yet AGAIN, after My Name is Khan, that he is not someone to be derided. For all whiners who STILL think Shah Rukh cannot act or overacts or is fit only for romantic genres, this movie is a SLAP in their faces and much more. AND NO, this movie does not reflect the early years of SRK as the anti-hero, IMHO, this one is pleasantly DIFFERENT. How? Gaurav does all the bad acts cheekily and sneaks into Aryan's life via the backdoor. It is not as blatantly psychopathic as Darr or Anjaam. Shah Rukh has magnanimously allowed for a parody of himself - it also ANSWERS all his haters' questions.
Definitely worth all the pennies, this one is certainly a shot in the arm for Shah Rukh and needs to be one of Bollywood's MILESTONES.
Naalu Policeum Nalla Irundha Oorum (2015)
Good comedy laced with sarcasm
Creative story line. Good comedy throughout the movie. Can be watched with the entire family. Although there is not much scope for the main cast to perform, the cast does not act badly either. All have done well. Music is not bad either. The songs are nothing to write about. A good light-on-the-palate movie. The director has done a good job lacing romance in between the not-so-serious story. *******Spoiler alert: The only letdown is that I expected the policemen to reveal what actually happened in order to prevent things going from worse to worst. But it never really happened. A good message lies in it: Acts that you consider trivial might have huge (bad) consequences even if your intentions are right.
Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom (2012)
What a movie!! Wish all movies take a CUE from this one.....
Clean comedy.....No unnecessary stuff throughout the whole movie. 5+ points for that alone!! I'm even willing to give the movie a 20 on 10.....The story, the cast, the performance, direction, screenplay etc. - a class apart. I thought the friend who played Vijay Sethupathi's friend (Bugs) was an actor!! The actual SHOCK came in the very end when I came to know that the movie was based on a real life story & the character Bugs played himself!!!!! Hats off!! Vijay Sethupathi, as usual, shines in histrionics, so do the rest. His character, being repetitive-dialogue-prone, still did not make me feel bored. Both his friends'(SARAS & Bhaji) facial expressions are what other "stars" should try to imbibe.
After a VERY LONG time, I had a VERY HEARTY laughter a lot of times through the movie (after ANBE SIVAM, I guess). I could not even press the PAUSE button for a moment. I watched on TV via paid subscription service. Very gripping right through the end. How the "story" spans an entire 2+ hours on a thin thread of temporary memory loss of just a few days, without making the viewers batting an eyelid is a revelation. How the story was handled without deviating over to any unnecessary / unwarranted stunts should be applauded. Actually, I was in a dilemma in some of the scenes whether to feel sympathetic about the character PREM or laugh at the rollicking fun that is a part & parcel of the situations that unfurl when one loses memory temporarily. TAKE A BOW & more, Balaji & the whole CREW !!!!!!!!!
