Das Leben der Anderen (2006)
Seriously?
A stasi career policeman gets a conscience after listening in on a couple of artists for a day or two. Uh, no...don't think so. To get to the level he was at you'd have to be pretty fanatical about the ideology you're employed to protect. I think the only reason more reviewers didn't catch this is because the music lulled them into a false reality as it probably was intended to do. Frustratingly unrealistic but apart from that not a bad film at all.
Line of Duty (2012)
9 stars for the first series
Started getting a bit silly in the second series regarding realism I thought and certain casting choices were simply wrong. I haven't seen the other series and not sure I will bother now. I had to watch with subtitles even though I'm a native speaker with good ears and wearing decent headphones. Otherwise, a lot of the time I wouldn't have had a clue what they were mumbling about.
The first series was excellent but not perfect (what is?) else I would have given it full marks.
What Lies Ahead (2019)
Do NOT watch the trailer!
I made the mistake of watching the trailer which completely took away any wish to watch the movie as by the time the trailer had finished, the story had been drained of every twist and element of surprise. Someone needs to tell filmmakers that a trailer needs to trigger interest if they want people to go and watch the thing. My feeling is by showing a run-through of the movie people will have less interest not more. You would think that was commonsense but no doubt a lot of money has been spent on studies by marketing experts etc and likely it's been shown that trailers such as the one for this movie, actually increase the viewership. If that really is the case I have to admit to being totally baffled by it.
Citizen X (1995)
A puzzle
Overall, a rather depressing waste of time the most depressing thing being the amount of rave reviews this film has. There's a point about halfway through when they have the killer in custody but because it's the useless USSR they let him go. The guy in charge of the investigation played by Rea obviously suspects the chap so you're left wondering for the rest of the movie why he didn't have the suspect followed. Instead the investigator acts like he didn't have any leads at all.
Path of Blood (2018)
I know I shouldn't laugh but...
It reminded me of Four Lions only that was a spoof whilst this unfortunately was very real. Still when the suicide bomber in his car full of explosives runs out of petrol just before reaching the target one couldn't help thinking whether the whole thing was not a set up.
Sadly it wasn't and what's truly terrifying about it is there are plenty of people out there who can't wait to blow themselves up for their god in order to clinch a place in heaven. The West better look out I reckon.
I Feel Pretty (2018)
First half worked.
I enjoyed it up until Amy's character started to become a dick, that wasn't funny at all. Sort of spoilt everything that had gone before actually.
