I started to watch the second episode out of shock and disbelief
24 February 2017
Just putting rich people into uncomfortable situations that rich people don't normally find themselves in does not make a show funny. There would have to be, I don't know, humor or something to make that happen. I thought for sure because of the cast and ratings that this wouldn't be so terrible. I even went against my gut and started to watch the second episode after the abysmal pilot. Seriously what is this? I am only reviewing this show because the ratings on IMDb are totally skewed and something's fishy here. There is no way this many people actually like this show--I just don't believe it. It's really stupid and unoriginal and the plot is as poorly written as the jokes. It's actually very difficult to watch and I can't believe I wasted more than 20 minutes on it.

We need more shows like this
11 January 2017
Please Like Me is a very thoughtful dark comedy, and there isn't anything else quite like it. The writing is amazing. From a first glance this show might appear to be about gay life in Australia, and I've read several descriptions of the show that say something like that, but it's just a really funny show about life, generally, with a main character and many side characters who happen to be gay. It can be dark and depressing at times, and sometimes silly, but always very insightful without trying too hard, being pretentious, or going for shock value like so many shows seems to do for a laugh. We could use a lot more shows like this one.

Different (in a good way)
4 January 2017
This is a very interesting show depicting several different power struggles among and between groups. There is an element of the supernatural but it isn't overbearing.

By far the most interesting thing going on here is the setting. So many shows take place in LA or somewhere that looks similar to LA and seeing a show Appalachia is refreshing, and the show uses its setting very well. There's not a single moment where you forget where you are as a viewer. The lighting is different, the people are different, the landscape is different.

This gets a 10/10 from me because it is totally unlike anything else on TV right now and I want to see where the story leads.
