The Secret Garden (2020)
why yet another version of a movie for the umpteenth time?
This is rather disappointing. whatever happened to Martha?! she was the one person able to connect with Mary Lennox in the book and now she's a bitter snippy housemaid. even Mrs. Medlock is kinder than Martha is. if you would like to watch a better version, see if you can't find Margaret O'brians version. it's one of the best, and she is a perfect Mary Lennox. Colin in this production is lacking. and when the two meet, it's rather anti-climactic and disappointing.
there is no point to purchasing the rights to a book and then ignoring it. that is what this movie has done. watch the 1993 or the 1940's version.
Ironweed (1987)
painfully dull, surefire cure for lack of sleep
This movie is the ambien of it's day. I worked in a movie theater and the first night, we had a sold out audience. We had to wake most of them up at the end. sadly I am NOT making that up. the NEXT show we had 12 and the shows after that we averaged 4-10. Worse we had to keep it a 2nd week as the next show (Last crusade) was being held over. Oddly enough the book is just as bad.
Poorly scripted, miscast and dreadfully edited. Meryl Streeps character dies without any build up. We figured she must have finally read the script and discovered how erratic it was and left in disgust.
Watch this if you have troubles going to sleep.
The Three Musketeers (1993)
Horrific waste of time and film
This movie is completely worthless. I have no idea why they did not bother to read the book as it has very little has to do with what Dumas actually wrote. the only thing in common with the book are the characters names! If you want to see an incredible version, watch the Richard Lester version. Perfectly cast and written that movie is a gem. This version is so mis-cast it is shocking. Chris O'Donnell is just to smirky, and What did they do to Constance? I know this was a Disney film but really! Now she is one of the queen's guards? and survives? Athos APOLOGISES to Milady? and she jumps off a cliff?? I was revolted when Gainsborough's blue boy was King Louis XIII. and don't even start me on Tim Curry's Cardinal. I hope it was his direction rather than his acting choices, because his cardinal was a horror. Do NOT waste a second of your life watching this drivel.
Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005)
alright, just not as good as the first three, but better than the last 2.
George still has problems working with live actors, and a serious problem with dialog. The movie is really good until the actors open their mouths, then the banal and trite seem to fly. Also, what on EARTH happened to Padme? she went from a kick butt queen to a whiny sob sister. It will be interesting how Lucas explains the discrepancy between what Princess Leia tells Luke about their mother and her dying right after the birth.
All in all, MUCH better than the last two movies, but he still needs writing and directing help. To bad Kasdan wasn't asked to direct and write.
