The Great American Joke Off (2023)
Mock the Week for Americans
Of course, they can't joke about topical news because Americans don't know what's going on, so the jokes are no where near as relevant or funny. They've gone so far as bring in alumni from MtW, and you can tell they're trying, but there's just nothing to work with. Every joke seems forced and yet rehearsed. There's minimal banter (banter was what made MtW so good) and zero chemistry between the comedians. Also, making it an individual game rather than a team one makes zero sense when not everyone gets a chance at all the "games". It's like someone saw a clip of MtE and extrapolated the premise, poorly. Another badly done American rip off of a good Brit show.
The Rift: Dark Side of the Moon (2016)
Tries to be Roadside Picnic, isn't even a snack
Seriously. It's clear the inspiration for this is from Roadside Picnic, but while that novel and the Russian Film based on it have depth and can hold interest, this is just a mess. I can watch just about anything, but this, I'll be honest, couldn't get past 40 minutes. Poor acting, pacing and plot is the triumvirate of awful. Another reviewer said the ending had a good sting. Maybe it does, I'll never find out, life's too short for films without any redeeming qualities.
