Just Go With It
25 April 2021
There is so much to enjoy in this film. The writing has layers of humor that can appeal to almost anyone, if they're willing to accept some of the absurdism. Just accept it. Just go with it because this truly insane film hits so many notes of comedy accented by vivid sets and fun cut aways (packing their suitcases). And hats off to Jamie Dornan. He truly trusted his director and writers/costars because you have to admit, that character on paper would've been indiscernible. And yet he ends up charming at the end, in a caricature way, but still sympathetic. Wiig's dual performance is the cherry on top of all around incredible character moments-and lovely to see Phyllis and Vanessa. This seems like a movie that was a riot to make.

The Fool Shows the Way
16 October 2020
Bert is using a multi genre show to disperse humanity and compassion. It's your typical Bert Kreisher shenanigans but incorporates incredibly heavy themes of trauma, racial inequality, realities of marriage, desires of success, and just trying to live your life in the best way. This show is funny and reverent and kind.

The Most Undervalued Doc Series
4 August 2020
I'm honestly so surprised that Hoarders doesn't have more awards or recognition. This program has been around for YEARS and the doctors, organizers and others have been there since season one. These people go and help real people and have been consistent in their care and empathy. All of the Doctors and therapists have grown so much through this show. It's so viscerally shot and edited, you get to know these people and professionals. Cory, Matt, and Dorothy are literally the loveliest people. I don't know how they do what they do and for years. Can't imagine that amount of kindness. This series is truly wonderful and fascinating.

A failed attempt to follow A Quiet Place
26 December 2018
Found the plot progression and dialogue odd and unconvincing. Some of the premises make zero sense and are unexplained. Tried to do a lot and failed I think. A Quiet Place allowed representation for the deaf community in a way that was respectful and hopeful. I am troubled by how the film concludes at a Blind School. No explanation as to why being blind is being spared (you can't experience this evil in other ways? Just by sight?) In many ways this essentializes vision and places it in a moral field. Not only is this not representative of real blind people but there is no likelihood of Sandra's character, a woman with sight, could've gone down the river with two kids and survive. It's a romanticization of sense deprivation that does more harm than good
