The Black Donnellys (2007)
One of the best premieres I have ever seen. Can only get better, especially if told from Joey "Ice Cream's" point-of-view.
I thoroughly enjoyed the premiere. When I started watching the show all I could think about was how weird my life had been lately, and how it was normal for a while there. But as the show went along, I got really wrapped up in it. The show itself, and the acting are both top-notch.
I thoroughly enjoyed Tommy, who was played by Jonathan Tucker,an actor I had seen on Masters of Horror on Showtime, where I enjoyed his performance there a lot as well, and thought that he should move onto bigger and better things.
I especially enjoyed the scene with Tommy drawing Jenny in the coffee shop, and her asking innocent questions about it, and him just leaving.
The premiere thoroughly led me on, and I totally did not see the ending coming, until Tommy went to leave with his brother, and I realized he wasn't going to get Beer, or anything else, but that he was going to take care of "business".
I can only imagine that a show this great, with a premiere where the main cast kills off the mob bosses in their area, can only get ten times better as it goes along. Also,I hope they post my comment, or someone's who reviewed the show in a positive way. The fact that the gentleman who has his comment up now gave this show 4 stars is a disgrace.
This is one of the best shows I have seen in years, and short of Tommy being killed, I do not think it can disappoint me in any way.
Masters of Horror (2005)
One of the best things I have seen in the Horror Genre, even though it is not a movie.
This show does for me what movies cannot. It makes me think seriously about life. I cannot explain why. But it is so real. You feel like you are in the show. Not in some campy, oh this is funny sense, but in a wow, I am so scared out of my mind right now. I feel like most of the episodes are out of body experiences, start to finish.
As a person I am always thinking "What would I do in that situation; what is the next move?" so when I see people get killed for doing stupid stuff in these shows, I think the same might happen to me.
One of the things I absolutely love are the characters. I have seen a few of my favorite actors/ actresses on this show. And also some that I never heard of before, but thoroughly enjoyed. Also, they are good at putting sex into a TV show, in an adult, but yet not overly done way. It is very tasteful.
You feel very much like an adult when watching this show, and for me that is good. And when I get older and have more money to spend, this is definitely something I want to have in my DVD collection, and hopefully when it is all said and done, (which I hope does not happen anytime soon), they will put all the episodes in a beautiful box set, with a nice booklet, and a ton of extra features.
All in all, if you are looking for something better than all the cheap remakes, and bad horror one-offs, then check this out. YOu will either pee your pants, or wish your closest friends were there to enjoy the show with you.
Paparazzi (2004)
Thoroughly enjoyed it; different ending would be more realistic.
I sat down thinking I would love this movie, about a man who wants revenge for his family and himself, and I absolutely did.
Although I would not have minded some more background or character development, I thought that the characters were quite obvious and realistic, and not too intrinsic, or complicated too understand.
The character's were good looking, but the supporting cast was rough enough looking that you do not feel like you are watching a soap-opera, then again, some of those women are hags. I digress.
You learn that the main character is driven, something I think most can relate too, because even if you are not driven I am sure you have had to be driven for a time to snag your wife/husband, or boyfriend/girlfriend or something like that. He simply wants to make movies, make money, be successful; and have his family left the hell alone.
There could have been more violence and blood had they shown the bat-beating scene. But it is more viewable by women/men who prefer less violence because that part is not shown. I personally would have loved to have seen the lead get in a fist-fight with someone. He looks like he could handle himself very well with just his hands. I think they should make him a super-hero, like Johnny Blaze in "Ghost Rider".
All-in-all I thoroughly enjoyed it, but I would have liked to have seen the cop put the lead away for murdering three people. Then it would have been realistic.
At the same time I was happy with the ending.
