The Mysterious Island (1929)
Breakthrough Special Effects in their infancy!
Made in 1929, this highly entertaining Silent/Talkie is 93 years old. Judge it on its place in history. I loved it! Wanna' see how far SFX have come. Watch "Battleship" before or after this one.
Last Seen Alive (2022)
I LOVE Gerard Butler, so sue me!
I don't care what budget was, or the other viewers think! Gerard Butler did what Gerard Butler does. He's great as the "man with a misson"! Man! I love it when the good guy gets it done!
Go, Johnny, Go! (1959)
Campy! And That's What's So good!
Check your "Today" at the door. Quit whining. It's time to revel in 4:3 Black and White Rock N' Roll, lip syncing nostalgia. I love it! Can't get enough just like this!
Wayward Pines (2015)
READ THE BOOK!
Seems to be a low budget series based on the book. Television Series doesn't live up to the book, it leaves out all of the tension and "where am I plot line". The book a real Thriller! This series is an excessive boredom.
The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008)
Loved it! Much More Cerebral Than The Original!
Well done. Timeless story. Great special effects. Good acting. I'm a huge fan of the original, and found updated story was well done.. I would have given it a 10, but the last 5 minutes were a disappointment.
Don't Look Up (2021)
SATIRE TO THE MAX! BRAVO!!
A Masterpiece. Not your usual End Of The World Movie. It's about us and how we deal with the Unknown. Make sure you watch all the way through the end credits.
The Manchurian Candidate (2004)
BEST REMAKE I EVER SAW!
I've seen the original countless times; it's GREAT.
...But so is the 2004 reboot. To me, the best contemporary update of a Classic! Denzel Washington puts a modern spin on the great performance of Frank Sinatra. War is Hell, over and over again.
The Many Saints of Newark (2021)
THE WORST PREQUEL EVER!
What a Mish-Mosh! Great Actors. What a Drag of a Story Line! Did not live up to the Original Sopranos, which I LOVED! I couldn't get past Ray Liotta playing dual roals. Maybe too much time has gone by since HBO ended the original series?.Very disappointed!
Hell Bound (1957)
"CAMPY, AND KIND OF FUN!"
It's a reel Cheeser! "HELL BOUND" from 1957. Starring, TV's "Lawman, John Russell as the Bad Guy; mustacheless, getting his in the final scene. All the bad guys "get it" at the end of most Film Noir Flicks. About 5 tons of scrap metal rein down from an electromagnet on top of old John hiding in a railroad hopper car. Oops. Fini. Not bad for a B- picture. Great Trivia: Stuart Whitman played two different characters in the movie, one a blind guy in a bar. Just putting on sunglasses and mumbling did NOT do the trick. Make that a C+
Cast Away (2000)
Doesn't Get Better Than This!
Take my word for it. This is a MASTERPIECE! One of the all time greats; Tom Hanks is the Jimmy Stewart/Marlon Brando/Spencer Tracy of our time!
The Return of Eliot Ness (1991)
1991 "Attempt" at Noir in Color
Good try for us Untouchables Fans. I loved the cars! But every single vehicle looked like it just rolled out of the showroom! Not a bad plot! I was totally engaged, and was thrilled that Robert Stack hadn't lost his deadpan portrayal of Elliot Ness. Too bad Walter Winchell wasn't around to narrate.
Greenland (2020)
Great Disaster Flick!
Note to those of you who refuse to allow yourself to be entertained: STOP COMPLAINING.
This was a well scripted, well acted, and well shot movie. Super EFX too! I spend my money to escape reality and be entertained. A few mistakes never bothered me. All in all, a great movie I want to see a second time!
The Dark Corner (1946)
Mark Stevens IS Film Noir!
Stevens and Ball! Flim Noir at its best. One of the most underrated Noirs out there! Mark Stevens is so overlooked as a stalwart of Noir. Don't miss this Flick!
White House Down (2013)
Love A Shoot Em' Up!
My title says it all. Check your fact checking. Love the spectacular special effects. Ejoy what movies are made for; be totally entertained!
Guarding Tess (1994)
OK, I LOVE A FEEL GOOD MOVIE!
I've seen it more than once. No problem getting past the minor mistakes. I just love this flick! It is a love story! It is an adventure story! It is an acton story of sorts! Nicholas Cage and Shirley McClain are wonderful together!
21 Bridges (2019)
Hey! You Forgot The 3 Tunnels!
GOOD FLICK! I loved it! I grew up in the NYC area and know Manhattan. Was totally engrossed. Excellent performance by Chadwick Bosman. So sad we've lost him; great actor.
L.A. Confidential (1997)
Brilliant!
I can say it all in one sentence:
This is Film Noir in Color done in indomitable style!
Coming 2 America (2021)
Not That Bad! Come On!
We watched it and were thoroughly entertained. It was tough to top the original, but this was a good effort. Always amazed at the great character makekup and the multiple roles played by Murphy and Hall. Leslie Jones did a great job too.
A Dog's Way Home (2019)
If You Have Dogs You Will Cry
Get your tissues ready. Check reality at the door. We have three rescue dogs, and if one if ours were lost we would be devastated. Great SFX. Nicely done. Bryce Dallas Howard as the voice of Bella the dog did a spectacular jobb!
Midway (2019)
Well Done! Good SFX!
Go with the the history and immerse yourself in what it must have been like in the 1941/1942 era. Good flick.
The Vast of Night (2019)
Not Bad At All!
A damn well done low budget thriller. Worth a look!
Uncut Gems (2019)
Unusually Intense!
Now you know the adage is true. Comedians make great dramatic actors. SPECTACULAR performance from Adam Sandler. Frenetic, non-stop, and edge of your seat. Great performance! Bravo Adam!
Fallen Angel (1945)
Great Noir
Just adding a "Goof".
Sign on the wall on Pops's Diner which plays prominently in the movie reads, "Coffee 10 Cents", but everyone in the film gets charged five cents.
Pearl Harbor (2001)
Melodramatic, BUT, great Flick!
Great war scenes. Good special effects. Let the mistakes go. Immerse yourself in the story and enjoy the ride! Great cameos! John Voight as FDR is SPECTACULAR. And kudos to Alec Baldwin as the future General Jimmy Doolittle. I loved it! So, it's a little sappy. While cares?
