Twilight (2008)
Just NOT a vampire movie!
I remember when this first came out in the cinema, the idea of another vampire movie sounded interesting, but upon watching it we were INCREDIBLY disappointed!
A vampire who "preys on" teenage girls, but not from blood, but for love? Then he goes for the blandest girl in school, and later on we find it's because he can't read her mind... Most probably because she's got nothing going on upstairs!!!
Mix in that these vampires SPARKLE, they're not vampires, they're glampires :P
The only bright spot in this dross is Anna Kendrick, and she's barely in the film!
I wish I could have my time back from watching these things, but instead we see dreadful acting, a terrible plot, awful dialogue and a vampire "weakness" that is laughable - avoid this if you have any sense.
The Watchful Eye (2023)
A show that swings between great ideas & acting to BLAND!
Let's start with the TERRIBLE initial premise - a girl and her boyfriend want to steal a gem so they can "be rich and escape", which is bland at best and just plain boring at worst, they could have done SO much more with just the initial concept, but someone went for the lowest common denominator
Mix in some GREAT actors, and some who are monotone, bland and couldn't show emotion if you put a gun to their head (the main actress is a classic example for this) - the story also spins way out into different directions that would have made a MUCH better main premise, but alas, the side stories don't seem fleshed out enough (yet)
The main character, a nanny to a rich guy, seems to swing by on luck, supposed charm and her looks - anyone with two brain cells to rub together would see through her flimsy as paper explanations, but the other characters seem to swallow it hook, line & sinker, her boyfriend turns out to be a police detective with a good job, so why would he need to "run away"??? - she also (without explanation of how) gets a friend a job as the doorman... he literally shows up in one episode & they say she got him the job, no further detail
Add in some mistery in the basement where some secret information is held, no explanation of how they managed to find out about this "lost" info, but she manages to work it out, being the greatest detective in the world (think Sherlock, but female and no personality)
Some sex gets added as a teenage resident "falls in love" with the new doorman (wow, she goes to school with other rich guys, but thinks a poor latino guy is her "perfect match"), the other nannies pair off - a boy nanny and a girl one, and 2 of the female ones, where we see more kissing than ANY interaction of the straight couples - it's almost as though the director has a kink for seeing teen girls kissing :P
Overall, so far (7 episodes in) there's no explanation of how she gets 99% of her information, and her "deductive skills" appear to be only evident when she finds things, not when she's talking or explaining things to others - it's like they couldn't find a way to progress the "mistery" without her being able to pull information out of the air!!!
Overall, this is a concept that could have been exceoptional, but bad writing, bad casting, followed by bad acting just drag it down - I have it on as "background" while I'm trying to do other things - there are maybe a couple of points where it tries to grab your attention, but then it just loses it
Should you watch this? If you're doing nothing else, why not... Should you go out of your way to watch it, don't bother, unless you like bad acting & bad writing.
Fall (2022)
Sympath for an idiot who drags her mourning friend? I think not!!!
Who the hell thought this was a good idea of a film?
First off, we have the married couple who are climbing, and at this point I already dislike them as they're clearly adrenaline junkies... so, the husband slips and falls to his death...
Now we get the bit where we're meant to empathise with the wife, she grieves and puts herself away from society, which is completely understandable - during this time her father, who is still in contact with one of her old friends, which seems INCREDIBLY creepy, and rather than finding a friend who would console her, he picks the most INSANE of her old friends - is her father going senile?
What happens next is just proof that her friend is a complete and utter moron as well as a thrill seeker, and nothing else - she takes advantage of this poor grieving woman and talks her into doing this completely stupid climb, somewhere that isn't even stable (like her previous climbs)
Fast forward to arriving at the climb itself, and seeing the tower she doesn't NOPE out immeidately, she agrees to climb something where the only "skill" is not having a fear of heights and being dumb enough to trust a set of rusty old ladders
From this point on I lost any and all respect I had for the wife, because she agrees to follow up these ladders, yup, the "difficult climb" is going up rusty old ladders - and here we learn just and dumb this idiot friend is, she's climbing a tower at this height, brings virtually no equipment and supplies, and then they are SURPRISED when the old & rusty tower isn't stable!!!
During their time on the top of the tower I rolled my eyes SO hard at their ideas, and by this point in the film I had lost ANY kind of empathy & respect for these 2 fools - the friend is just a complete and utter moron who is just interested in the thrills and doesn't think of any kind of safety!
If you want to be annoyed and fristrated at a film, watch this mess, it's just completely STUPID and you end up HATING these 2 girls and wishing that they'd jump off, at least that'd be entertaining, because this film is just plainly and simply frustrating to watch, especially the last half!!!
