Bonkers- but an entertaining binge watch.
1 April 2021
It's not Sherlock. At all. I'd say it was more aimed at 16 year olds. A mix of the misfits crossed with ghostbusters. I don't know if I'd watch it again- but as entertaining hokum-it was just fine.

Resident Alien (2021– )
10/10
One of the funniest series I've seen in ages.
13 March 2021
I have liked Alan Tudyk in anything I've ever seen him in. It's why I gave it a go. It's warm, a little bit dramatic- and had me laughing my head off at so many situations. It just keeps getting funnier as it progresses. The town's characters are so well written. Roll on series 2. If you need something to lighten your mood- give it a go.

Much better than last week!
8 March 2021
The storyline was much better- and more believable. I didn't notice loads of plot holes- and Dodds gets better and better. This is more like the 2nd series I was waiting for. It's disappointing they only made three episodes. I hope Season 3 has ay least 6. Nice development of the other characters in the team too- I hope they are going somewhere with it.

McDonald & Dodds: The Man Who Wasn't There (2021)
Season 2, Episode 1

I'm glad it's back-
1 March 2021
But the plot holes in this story were shocking! I am hoping the writing in the next episodes improve, though. I will watch them all because of the wonderful Jason Watkins input. He is such a pleasure to watch-like Toby Jones. They both dignify any dodgy scripts and nonsense. Rob Brydon was equally marvellous- and the two junior sidekicks are shaping up well. I enjoyed the developing relationship between DCI McDonald and Dodds. All of them deserved a better script. It was still fun- and I look forward to seeing Bath-just like Oxford was for Morse. I did enjoy it- a bit-but I look forward to a better story next week.

Death in Paradise: I'll Never Let You Go (2021)
Season 10, Episode 8
10/10
I think this has been my favourite so far.
22 February 2021
I figured out the solution fairly early- but the bonding of the characters at this point make it unmissable for me. I love trying to work out solutions in all detective stories- it's mainly why I watch them- but the relationships of the characters has me hooked now. Marlon has really found his place. Catherine is more evident and I hope that continues. Neville, Florence and JPs family are all reasons to watch- and Selwyn's grumpy Police Chief is irresistible. I felt such a wrench when I realised I have to wait a year for the next series to see what happens with them all.

Getting better each week.

Neville is finally finding his own way- the team are gelling together- and I really hope Marlon stays for good. He's the charming, essentially decent naughty boy- a bit like Dwayne Myers was. This is really becoming a can't miss comfort blanket show for me. Tropics, sunshine and engaging cast. And Katherine is becoming a key character too. Lovely.

After Ben Miller left- it was never the same for me. I like Chris Marshall- but didn't like him on St Marie. Now, with Ralf Little- it's beginning to feel like the old days. It's become a 'must watch' for me.

Light hearted fun and escapism- with the best of Mallorca as a bonus
13 February 2021
I was so glad to see the series return. I'd hoped for 10 episodes-but found out that although ten were written-only 6 were filmed due to Covid19 restrictions. So there are 4 episodes written and ready for filming. I hope they will complete them soon- and sign up for a third series. I love how the two main characters are developing. It would be nice to see more of that.

Emma. (2020)
4/10
Disappointing- too rushed.
15 December 2020
I have been an Austen fan all my days- and re-read the all books every few years. This was a beautiful looking production- but, I felt, dreadfully miscast. Johnny Flynn was a very credible Knightly- but more emotional than I expected. Bill Nighy, whom I was really looking forward to, was too hearty and Sprightly to be Mr Woodhouse. Emma was too cold, and lacked the liveliness of Emma's character. It wasn't the actors who disappointed me really- I think the story was cut so much- it felt like being told a quick summary of the book. It felt as if the heart of the story wasn't there. Perhaps this is why I preferred the mini series. This film was too short to do the story justice. It covered the salient points of the narrative- but had no Austen atmosphere. Not for me. I think the same cast given a 4 episode miniseries could have done it justice.

Tales of the TRULY unexpected-
12 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The production of a 1970s style short is flawless. The characters- their acting. Pretty soon you hear the voice narrating the scene, and the film being rewound a little- and realise you are watching a film, which is being watched by it's creator. Everything becomes clear in the final scene. Which was not only unexpected-but really disturbing. I though only Papa Lazaroux could leave me this unsettled. A fantastic bit of work.

Added depth- without losing any of the humour.
24 October 2020
This backstory was moving- as the Captain's was. It's adding more to the series-finding out the ghosts past- but never loses it's sense of humour. I am so glad there is a third series.

This was a very moving, touching episode. I adore this series- and finding out the back stories of the ghosts has been an excellent move. I actually had a tear in my eye at the end of this episode.

Enola Holmes (2020)
10/10
A terrific and sweet film for mid-teens- or any age really.
27 September 2020
I cannot believe the reviews complaining about historical inaccuracy ! These people must have learned history from old films. Of course there were adventurous women and girls in Victorian times! Where did the suffragette movement come from? That aside- it was a charming and thoroughly enjoyable tale. The addition of the Holmes brothers was a nice touch. It raised our expectations of our heroine's intelligence and derring-do. I think teens would love it. Notwithstanding our advanced ages- my husband and I really enjoyed it. We hope there's a sequel.

Perfect ending. Roll on series 2.
10 August 2020
I have loved this series from the beginning. It has gripped us and resulted in long conversations at home about what was really happening- and what the solution could be. The ending was better than I could have hoped as there were no cliches and a totally unexpected turn of events-for me anyway. The music playing out the end credits was fantastic!

27 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This is the best thing I've seen for ages. Probably since Game of Thrones enthralled me. I can't wait for the next episode- but will feel quite bereft when it finishes. Watching him struggle in his new role was so much more satisfying than him being an instant cool headed lawyer. The production is marvellous- and the characters really brought to life by the actors. It is far superior go the original- which I remember. My partner and I talk about it all week, trying to predict what will happen next. Just like GoT. It must be renewed -surely?

Another emotionally exhausting episode- in the very best sense of that expression. This is a marvellous series- and hats off to everyone involved in making it. This episode deepened the intrigue- and I look forwards to next week already.

Who are writing the bad reviews?
25 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I watched the old Perry Mason in the 60s because my parents watched it. I thought it dull, stodgy and predictable cliches. This new version is fabulous- dark and disturbing and sumptuously filmed. I cannot understand people whining "it's not the original". It is not- and that is a very good thing. I do not think I lived through a golden age of TV- and really appreciate the work that has gone into this new series. Why can so many people not let go of the past?- just watched tomight's episode-5. This show gets better and better each week. Can't wait for next week- see you in court Mr mason!

A delightful, very touching and ultimately sweet film. I am watching it tonight for the 5th time- and am as every bit as enchanted as the first time I saw it. Don't miss it.

Van der Valk: Death in Amsterdam (2020)

Why on earth the bad reviews?
10 May 2020
This is the best new series I've seen for ages. There have been enjoyable ones- but this was fabulous from the First few minutes of the first episode. Terrific actors, intriguing story line, characters you care about and all set in the beauty of Amsterdam! I am so stunned by the horrendous reviews, I find it hard to think they are genuine. I just cannot understand comments like-'boring'. For me it was VERY far from boring. I am hoping the next series won't be too long. The backstory in tonight's final episode was intensely acted- and leaves me wondering just what the haters think is a good crime series. Everyone should try this for themselves- and not bother with reviews-good or bad. I will be very disappointed if it is not renewed.

Never saw the original-
9 May 2020
But I really enjoyed this. Marc Warren was fabulous- and the rest of the cast were engaging. I love Amsterdam-and having it set in such a beautiful city is so enjoyable. As for people complaing about it being PC and 'woke'- they have nailed their unpleasant colours to the mast. Hevean forbid we ever make programmes aimed at this xort of person. The fact they are annoyed by it is an indication of how good it is.

I am really surprised at how much I enjoyed this.
1 May 2020
After all the negative reviews, I gave this one a miss. But I have literally just finished watching it- and it was not bad in the least. Of course it's a departure from the first 3- it could not be the same- but every bit as enjoyable as the first MIB despite not having Will Smith's wisecracking. If you haven't seen it yet- try it out with an open mind. You might be very pleasantly surprised.

Carter: Harley Takes a Bow (2019)
Season 2, Episode 10

I adore Carter! Season 3 please!
30 April 2020
It's a fun, light weight antidote to the serious gut busting, trails of blood and bodies crime shows. I always know I'll have a laugh watching Harley Carter and his gang- and the pituresque Bishop in Canada. Almost like a modern version of Murdoch Mysteries. It's charming and sometimes you get sick of watching grief and tears. Carter is exactly what it's meant to be- good fun with some touching moments now and again. Anyone judging this show against a hard-nosed detective show is missing the point.

My best ever version of The Moving Finger.
27 April 2020
The cast are stellar- and completely wonderful. I have never seen a better version than this- and I have been watching crime drama since the 60s. Joan Hickson is still my ultimate Miss Marple- but the entire cast of this episode really make it shine.
