The Six Wives of Henry VIII (1970)
comment and question
I have the DVD version of "Six Wives of Henry 8th" and I love it each time I watch it. Keith Mitchell is Henry 8th. Nuff said. The costumes were beautiful. I fancy myself as a royal expert (at least my family says so). I watch it at least once every two weeks. The women chosen to play Henry's six wives were well played. I noticed two people in the series. The man that played "Thomas Seymour" and the man that played "Steven Gardiner Bishop of Winchester" were played by the same men in "Elizabeth R" (Henry's daughter by Anne Boylen). The Duke of Richmond is only mentioned once in "Catherine of Aragon". In the history books he lived to see Anne Boylen executed. Why was he not mentioned in "Jane Seymour" when he died? My next question is the man that played "Cardinal Wosley" in "Anne of Thousand Days" was credited in "Six Wives of Henry 8th" as the Narrator/Voice. As many times as I've seen the series I can not recall him. Any one know where he is so for future reference I will hear or see him?
Father of the Bride (1950)
a classic
Look at how Elizabeth Taylor looked then! Beautiful and thin! She still looks fine now. Billie Burke (a.k.a.The Good Witch of the North) was a calming presence along with "Kay Banks". "Buckley" was kinda cheesy looking but otherwise all right. This was and is a classic no matter the nightmare it causes some fathers. If you like timeless classics in black and white then watch this movie. If the movie people are smart they will not colorize this movie. A colorized version will ruin it like a colorized version of "It's A Wonderful Life". There are just certain movies that should not be messed with and this is one of them. DO NOT COLORIZE THIS MOVIE!
Masters of the Universe (1987)
my first movie
This was my first movie to see on the big screen. I was nine and my brother seven. We live in Houston. There was a General Cinema not far from our house. I remember my Dad's beeper going off. Can you imagine what those looked like nearly twenty years ago? The movie is over and we're leaving I saw some lift his right arm in the air saying loudly "I have the Power!". So it was not a big box office hit. I don't care I and my brother loved it and always will. I can not imagine Rocky as He-Man. Uh-uh. Who could not like Gwildor? Does anyone remember Willow? He was in it. No matter what movie I see Frank Langella in I will always remember him as Skeletor. I would have like to have seen Masters of the Universe Part 2.
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1978)
lifelong fan of beatles & bee gees
I was born in 1978. Luckily my Dad got a copy of Sgt Peppers. Because of this movie. I got to know the music of both The Beatles and The Bee Gees. Who cares about the acting ability?! If anything listen to the movie for the music. After watching "The Great Escape" I'm like, Hey look it's Forger!" Who knew? I think Aerosmith sang "Come Together" great. Barry Gibb can and will be my favorite Bee Gee. Billy Preston being Sgt Peppers singing "Get Back". Perfect. I was raised on Classic Rock music. Beatles, Lynard Sknyrd, Led Zeppelin, Bee Gees, Neil Diamond. I'm listening to The Sgt Pepper's album of The Beatles. I would love to own the soundtrack to this movie. I think Barry Gibb is a hunk! I don't care how old he gets he still sounds great. The late greats of George Burns, Maurice Gibb. And that ending musical scene with all walks of life from music and acting. I still look at the list and see new names. It will take me sometime to put the names to the faces. Anyone who badmouths this movie should be told: Watch the movie for the music! Great Music!
Concert for George (2003)
my sweet george
When the Beatles broke up I was not even born (1978). I was not a Beatles fan until I saw the "Sgt Pepper's". I then saw "Hard Days Night" on PBS during a Beatles' anniversary. I then made The Beatles my favorite group. No offense to McCartney-Lennon who made some good songs but George Harrison was, is and will be my favorite Beatle. It's hard to believe that it will be four years this November. The idea of having some of the greatest musical artists under one roof to sing George's songs is the best idea ever. Eric Clapton is a genius! Dhani Harrison looks like his father. That's beside the point. I thought the "Monty Python" tribute was funny! Especially "The Lumber Jack Song". "Isn't It A Pity" is great. "Here's Comes The Sun" a classic. Ringo singing "Photograph". Paul singing "Something" on the ukulele. You can't forget "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", "My Sweet Lord". During "My Sweet Lord" people are standing up dancing in the aisles. "Beware of Darkness" of course is good. "Wah-Wah" everyone is standing at this point. I thought it was historic to have this many musicians and singers play George Harrison's songs. Thank You! It was the best concert on DVD I've watched. Thank You!
Star Wars (1977)
star wars fan forever
When Episode IV came out I was not even born. I guess I was too young to see Episodes V & VI. So my brother and grew up with it on the TV screen. When The Special Edition was getting released into theaters my brother and I were like "We HAVE to see them!" So on opening day my brother and I got in line at Tinseltown 290 in Houston to buy four tickets. Standing behind me is a Cinemark employee dressed as Darth Vader. I don't know why I laughed at that moment. We originally wanted the 10:45pm showing but it was sold out and they added an extra showing at 1am. So at 1am myself, my brother, our Dad and our aunt went to see it. The lights went out and some guy behind us yelled "Chewie!". You those familiar drums then the Fox logo. Then Lucas Film Ltd the people applauded. Then "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away." There was silence for that. Then the "Star Wars" came on the screen the theater applauded loudly. It was great. My brother and I agree George Lucas is a genius. Such imagination. He deserved that AFI Life Acchievment Award this year. George Lucas joins the ranks of Steven Spielberg, James Cameron, Peter Jackson among others as a great director. Way to go George!
Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman (1993)
Dr mike fan
I fell in love with the show right away I guess being a girl. I was working at the time when the series finale aired. I felt sorry for the entire show's cast and crew who most likely expected to return for another season. But the CBS executives decided to cancel the show. I along with other wrote letters trying to save the show. I always looked forward to Saturdays on CBS. Shame on you CBS! Now onto business. There is only one Dr Quinn and Sully. I always Sully was a cutie. And William Shockly who played Hank the bartender. Robert E looked like a trusting person, Johnny Cash who guest starred looked like a gentle person. There have been three people playing Elizabeth Quinn (Dr Quinn's mother) the third one was the best. No offense to the series pilot or Jane Wyman. Certain episodes will stand out. The wedding of Mike and Sully. The birth of Katie. Even the episode where Grace and Robert E bought a house in town and in comes the KKK. That's how it was for black people. You can't forget when Ingrid died. Or Colleen's wedding to Andrew. You can see one episode on The Hallmark Channel and you will be hooked. Thanks to The Hallmark Channel for airing reruns of Dr Quinn Medicine Woman. Has anyone besides me noticed that the guy who played General Custer in the wedding episode was the very same guy who played the banker Preston Lodge III?
