Straight Outta Compton (2015)
Beyond disappointed!
I cannot stress how disappointed I was with this movie. I expected a powerful, raw and real view into the true story of the revolution of hip hop/rap. I was quite young when all of this actually occurred but (growing up in the 90's) music was evolving in new and significant ways that was truly exciting. As far as the stories behind the music we were left with what little we heard on MTV news, read in the few gossip columns of magazines and word of mouth. That's why I was eager to see this movie. With social media now we know every step everyone takes-and they are aware of that-so I was looking forward to seeing a depiction of a time before that. A behind the scenes look at what really went on when nobody was looking-because then compared to now-nobody was.
...Instead what I got was 2 1/2 hours of horrible acting! I've seen more character in infomercials than in this movie. Seriously I'm more emotionally invested in if Bob can get that burnt cheese off his non-stick pan than I was of the deaths in this movie. The actors seemed as if every single blink was scripted, nothing seemed natural or real at all-which to me is important when you're portraying something that actually happened!
If the intentions of this movie were to take a real life, hard, emotional yet exciting revolutionary story and make it seem fake and drab it gets 10 stars. But it wasn't, therefore I give it 1. It could've and should've been something great.
13 Sins (2014)
Very good, conflicted about my experience
***May contain spoilers, fair warning***
I found myself thoroughly enjoying this movie overall. The concept was interesting, acting was for the most part great and overall results made it a movie worth watching.
I was conflicted because there seemed to be no character build up, as well as sometimes I couldn't tell if I was supposed to laugh or be in suspense. I found myself being pulled back and fourth from it being a humorous approach, to a serious one, to a gory one. My mind wasn't quite sure how to process any type of genre. It started off fast and some things didn't get explained well, and a lot of things that happened really weren't explained. I did fall into it though, and was pleased with the results.
As I said, I think the acting was great for the most part, great concept. I believe a few tweaks could make this movie a 10, such as more consistency on the tone of it and getting to know a bit more substance to the characters as to really why the choices were made, etc. Still, I recommend it.
The Cohasset Snuff Film (2012)
Interesting and mind chilling film
I watched this film thinking it was going to be a typical made up blood and gore film. It was not. It was more of a look into the mind of a serial killer and watching as he fell deeper into insanity. I felt it was very well put together, and kept me interested throughout the entire movie. I recommend this film to anyone who is fascinated with the psychological aspect of serial killers. If slasher films are your thing, you may be disappointed though. Otherwise, this one is not a waste of time. I found myself very focused and had actual reactions while watching this movie. It gets into your mind and you can almost feel what the people in the movie feel, which makes it chilling. 7 stars for sure.
Blood Shed (2013)
Nothing good about it
From the description I wasn't expecting anything from this movie, and I got less than that. I am usually a fan of bad horror movies as they are often an amusing way to pass time, however with this one that was not the case. The poor acting itself made it near impossible for me to watch, so trying to follow a story line (if there was one) was an unworthy headache. I really tried to find something about this movie to make it worth my time, but kept finding myself disappointed I spent my pocket change to rent this thing. I got it from redbox and will make sure I get it back before being charged another day for it. To sum it up, and say so politely, I found more amusement watching my cat groom himself.
Bad Grandpa (2013)
Has it's moments... few and far between.
I must say I was disappointed in this movie. I've always been a fan of Jackass, and tasteless, raunchy humor in general. Therefore, I was intrigued by the concept of following a story with typical Jackass antics mixed in. Brilliant!...so I thought. The idea was great, but I don't feel like it was executed to it's potential. There were a few laugh out loud moments, however the space in between left me with predictable, not so humorous moments, and I found myself bored at times.
Would only suggest watching this if you're preoccupied with some other activity and just glanced at the screen time to time for it's few moments that deserve a laugh.
