Phineas and Ferb (2007–2024)

A pair of goofy and inventive brothers with a fun cast of characters
17 March 2008
A fun and creative cartoon about a pair of step brothers who decide to make the most of everyday. Each day is filled with an outrageous scheme to have fun, each day topping the day before. Surrounding these brothers is a cast of characters that have their own plots, which entwine with the brothers plans. Their big sister is an average teen who tries to lead her own life, while trying to get her brothers in trouble for their schemes. The parents are charming and oblivious. The brother's friends are willing to go along for the ride. One girl in particular is lovestruck. The family pet platypus is leading a double life as a spy, continually saving the world from the evil plans of his mad scientist nemesis.

All in all, the voices are well done. The animation is simple, playful and just a bit over the top. It strikes the right mix of animated craziness without losing the plot.

Monk (2002–2009)
10/10
we all have a little Monk in us...

What makes this show so brilliant? The acting, scripts, style are all fantastic. I think what makes this show so addicting is that somewhere, there is some tiny part (more for some) of us, where we can all relate to Monk. Somehow, the main character manages to surpass his neurosis a little each episode to solve the unsolvable crime. Along the way, it gives us a laugh and a tear. Then the next time, we may be thinking, the show can't possible do it again, but it does. It just gets better and better. I think this is another show that benefits from the new cable 'short season'. It successfully reaches it's best with each episode.

The Closer (2005–2012)
10/10
smart, entertaining and thought provoking

A great cop show with smart plot lines, interesting characters and a distinctive style. The story starts out with Brenda, a southern transplant to LA. She's very good at solving odd murder cases and getting a confession from the criminal. She's not so great at the rest of her life. As the story develops we watch her weave her job and her very messy personal life with intelligent, interesting and occasionally funny results. The insight into police life and politics adds another fascinating dimension, to what is already an impressive show. I really think the new cable style of short seasons pushes shows like this to the utmost, making every episode highly watchable.
