I have to say that I can understand the uproar about this book, it's bound to happen when religion is involved. but the way I see it is that it's a FICTIONAL book which has used certain material to make it interesting to the reader.
Having said that I absolutely LOVED the film and can't wait to watch it again. The cast were all excellent, exactly how I pictured them when I read the book 2 years ago. A lot of the critics are saying it isn't all that but to be honest the film is a page by page adaptation, nothing has been changed and I like it that way. Of course I read the book a while back so watching the film refreshed my mind but also I had forgotten many little things so for those who haven't read the book this will be even better as quoted by my brother who hadn't even heard about the book believe or not.
The film does leave you wanting more, because for the duration of the movie you are hooked and along with the soundtrack it is like your imagination is coming to life almost as if you're reading the book and visually seeing it come to life.
Audrey Tautou I believe has done a great job as Sophie and not many people have mentioned that. I'm glad Ron Howard insisted on having her because in my mind I thought no one could do the role better than the actress in the Amelie movie same goes for Jean Reno. Obviously Ian Mckellen is awesome and so is Paul Bettany. But seeing Tom Hanks, Ian McKellen and Audrey Tautou interact is great and just like the book once you get to this part of the movie everything becomes more exciting and enjoyable.
As for people saying Tom Hanks is rubbish, I personally think he plays Robert Langdon perfectly. In the book, Robert is a calm rational character who takes him time and slowly comes to the conclusion, which is exactly how Tom Hanks is, so to say he is 'wooden' is not correct. There also been a lot of people saying that people laugh at serious moments, and it happened in the theatre when I was watching it too, but I have to say I think that's down to the actually dialogue that Tom says toward the end of the movie, it is a crucial part but there is a difference to reading that part and hearing it said to you.
When you read it you are taken aback but when you hear it said to you yes it does sound slightly humorous and unbelievable, I won't tell you what part it is but suffice to say you'll figure it out when the movie reaches it's climax.
If you're expecting something different and out of the blue then NO this film won't give you that. But if you're expecting to see one of you're favourite books come to life and enjoy the ride then YES this will give you all of that and leave you wanting more.
For me this film is a blockbuster and I enjoyed it much more than X Men 3 which let me down. I came out the theatre wanting to read the book all over again simply because now I can imagine the characters in my head more vividly.
So my advice would be go watch this film with an open mind, ignore the critics, ignore your mates comments and just go see it for yourself and come to your own conclusion.
