X-Men: Dark Phoenix (2019)
Not Great, Not Awful.
The idea that Jean Gray got her "Dark Phoenix" entity from a solar flare was way better than "The Last Stand" version of a dual personality. However the movie was slow placed, and felt lack luster. I would have preferred the director "Bryan Singer" who directed, X-Men, X2, X-Men Days of Future Past, & Apocalypse to head the film. The characters lacked the depth and heartfelt emotion of the previous films. But it wasn't awful, awful, the action scenes were still great. I would still recommend watching the movie, but just don't get your expectations high. Think of this as the Incredible Hulk of the MCU.
Kingdom of Heaven (2005)
Tragically Underrated
One of the most criminally underrated historic war epics. Fantastic in all its elements. A beautiful masterpiece, the cast is superb, the history is rich. Now historically speaking there will be some inaccuracies, but overall this movie is one you must see in your lifetime. The story is fantastic. Set during the Holy War, out protagonist Balian is thrust into a journey for forgiveness and peace. Balian finds himself following his newly discovered father's last wish to go to the Holy land and defend the king and its people. And to find peace between the Christians and Muslims. This movie paints a beautiful picture between, the horrors of war, the overly religious.
The Dead Don't Die (2019)
Exhausting
With such an all-star cast you'd hope for something interesting, but the movie was slower than a snail on a regular day. The story line was derivative, unsettled and unsure of what it's doing. The cast is excessively calm during the whole film, like they're all high and slow but nothing is funny. The even try braking the fourth wall but it's just flat and doesn't lead anywhere. They keep showing certain characters but doing nothing with them in the story. It feels like the story writers didn't know what they were trying to watch. I kept waiting for something to happen, to laugh, for there to be a point. But it just goes on and on into nothingness.
The Artful Dodger (2023)
Absolutely Wonderful!
My Mom and I watched this over the weekend and we loved it! Bringing one of Dicken's character to life in a show with a more modern and understandable script, but keeping the character isn't the time it takes place and staying true to the historical surrounding if The Artful Dodger had actually been there! All the actors did ask no jobs with their characters, and you truly get transported into the series. I loved the development of the character over the show, and that the series was focused on its characters and story telling and not trying to push agendas and sublimation messages into the show either. Can't wait for season two.
Doctor Who: The Church on Ruby Road (2023)
Love This!
I am loving the new Doctor! And the chemistry between him and Ruby's character was electric! I love seeing actors who're apart of the LGBTQ community plays characters who're not just within that grouping, such as Emma D'Arcy in HOD. It shows that they're in fact actors and more than just a narrowed scope of their sexuality. Gwata brings an amazing light heartedness and breath of fresh air, that's been desperately needed since Jodie Whitaker disaster of saga. I love the bubbly nature of Ruby Sunday and can't wait for more between these two characters.
The only downside to this episode is the goblin singing, now is it partially hilarious? Yes. But does it pull you away from the drama of the character yes. I hope they don't keep doing music backgrounds like they've started as it makes the show feel more like a teenage drama such as vampire diaries, one tree hill, or gossip girls. The great thing about Doctor Who is it takes place in a modern era but is not a modern day drama tv show.
Doctor Who: Wild Blue Yonder (2023)
Yes, Getting back to the show, and not a news anchor.
I absolutely detested "The Star Beast" episode as it was a pure let's force and subjugate our ideologies onto you, and if anyone who thinks differently is an awful person. This gets rid of all of that and focus back on the actual main characters and their real struggles and problems. It also brings back the mysterious and trepidation you felt watching older DW episodes where you had no idea what's going on and were absolutely terrified of the creatures. If they can continue on like this we may have a good show yet. If they want to introduce characters like a Rose Noble or Bill who're apart of the LGTBQ association, then maybe the can write them as actual normal characters you would a regular straight person instead of making the entire thing about their sexuality.
Amsterdam (2022)
Moderately Entertaining.
With such a diverse and all star cast, and going off the fact that the movie presents itself as a murder mystery film, I expected more. The story was all over the place, the characters didn't make a lasting impression, and you were waiting the entire movie to figure out what it was trying to do with itself. To finally realize the plot of the story, the conclusion was good. I do like that this was LOOSELY based on try events. But none of the scenes depicted themselves well enough to give you sincerity, or what story they were trying to tell you. There were many angles given, to finally come to the conclusion that this is a somewhat murder mystery, story of friendship, historic, war drama, spy op? I've seen the movie, and will most likely never see it again.
Black Adam (2022)
A Great Superhero addition to the DCEU
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's black Adam was a great, fun, action packed film about the DC's Anti Hero Black Adam, he did the character justice. The action scenes were fantastic, all the supporting actor did great jobs in bringing their characters to life. A few scenes need better CGI, but on the whole it all flowed well, and had a good stable plot. It also helped to introduce and restore more into the DCEU. It was an all around great movie. If you're basing your decision to see this movie based on Critic ratings such as Rotten Tomato's, it was a unfounded review. It's no movie of the year, but it is one I as a fan of DCEU and of DC Comics, enjoyed seeing and would/will watch again. Excited to see more from Black Adam in the future.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022)
Loving it so far.
I'm so happy to be back in Middle-Earth universe. Now do not go in thinking this is the Lord of the Rings, or will be filmed like it. It's the same universe not the same film. Love it so far though, very excited for more. The actress who plays Galadriel is phenomenal, and I love how we're getting bits and pieces of different races, and more history of middle earth as well. We're getting to see the the formation of middle earth, the elves coming to middle earth. The war of Morgoth, and how Sauron wasn't the original bad guy, but Morgoth's apprentice. And the beginning of the formation of the rings of power. I truly am excited to see how this story plays out. I think it's going to be good.
Dune (2021)
A Phenomenal Movie
Frank Herberts Dune is truly brought to life in the this 21st century movie adaptation of his book. Giving the viewers world building and in depth characters we haven't seen since The Lord of the Rings. From the first movie alone Dune promises to keep us entertained and wanting more. Performances from Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, and other such as Zendaya, Jason Momoa, Josh Brolin; we're wonderful and engaging. If the following movies hold to the story telling, visuals, and character building we've seen this far. We're set to have a series that may very well Join other legends such as Star Wars, Indian Jones, The Lord of the Rings, and Game of Thrones (up until it's disastrous ending). I myself will be waiting on the edge of my seat in anticipation for the next movies to come.
Aseudal Yeondaegi (2019)
Phenomenal Korean Series
This series keeps you guessing, the acting and writing is superb, when I began the series I thought I would be able to guess the plot from the beginning, NOPE, plot twist, plot twist, plot twist, but not in an overwhelming way, the writers are perfectly blending fantasy with good story lines, that will keep you waiting week after week for a next episode. And I can't wait for season two!!!!!
