Sugar (2024)
Original script, interesting plot, great casting, great acting, great writing.
Interesting to see Colin Farrell so slimmed down. He looks and acts like a 1940s private eye. He really portrays the character like he was born for this role. His accent is perfect, even when speaking Arabic, French Spanish, Japanese or Swahili.
The story is good right from the start and never gets predictable. I like the black and white scenes, the spliced in scenes from old movies, the realistic characters, the quirky story line that keeps you on your toes. The photography is interesting for a TV show. Adam Arkin does a great job directing. Only three episodes in and I'm hooked. One of the best shows on TV today.
The Northman (2022)
What the hell did I just watch?
Viking movies today are like the Westerns of the.1960's. After you've seen one ho hum Viking movie, you've seen them all. This one tries to be different but just comes across as weird. What's with the howling, the witches, the predictable plot lines? I'd rather watch a senior golf tournament on TV than this mess.
Ozark (2017)
Amazing Season 4 Finale
I thought Ruth Langmore was going to have a stroke in the final scene! Robin Wright really knows how to get the best out of her actors. Terrific show. Awards for the finale!!
The Lost Daughter (2021)
A cautionary tale..
Interesting insight into the insanity lurking behind the happy facade of motherhood. Apparently, some mothers treat their children like dolls and toss them away when they are tired of playing with them. The underlying weakness of character, the lack of responsibility as a parent and the easy acceptance by many women of this behavior as totally understandable should warn young men about the perils of marrying and having children. Sure, raising children is tiring, expensive and mentally draining. That doesn't give mothers, or fathers, the right to walk away from them when they need you, just because you want a responsibility-free life. Weak people should not have children.
Tenet (2020)
What the Hell
Poor casting, sleep walking lead actor, story makes no sense, everyone is a genius, materiel and personnel appear whenever needed, nonsensical solutions to problems- a dumpster fire of a movie
News of the World (2020)
Great western
Along the lines of Dances with Wolves and Unforgiven, this film depicts life in the mid 1800's in Texas. There is violence, death, cruelty, as well as friendship, kindness and loyalty. Lots of emotions in this depiction of the old West and well worth your time and money.
Hat tip to Francine Maisler for her excellent casting.
What Lies Below (2020)
If anyone deserves to be dead.....
The movie should be shown to all teenaged girls, so they know how not to act around predatory aliens. The daughter made one bad decision after another, to the point where I was rooting for the aliens to kill her or turn her into a host for their babies, so that the human race would have one less imbecile in its gene pool. Not a bad movie, not good, just somewhat entertaining.
Hunter Hunter (2020)
Make sure you take the 22
Everyone seems to be carrying large caliber rifles but they refer to them as "22s". A 22 caliber rifle is one of the smallest bored rifles in existence, and would be appropriate for squirrels or rabbits, not wolves. You'd think someone on set would know this.
Midway (2019)
Weird Casting
Casting Englishman Ed Skrein as an American, with his strange American accent and nothing American about him is an odd choice. It doesn't work. The rest of the cast is wrong as well. Also, in a war movie, the audience wants conflicts, fighting and action. Very little of any but the few fight scenes.
A disappointing effort.
Freaks (2018)
Entertaining SYFY Film
Interesting little film. Great acting from all involved, especially little Lexy. She is awesome! Not sure why she didn't get top billing, as she was what made the film work. Love to see a sequel with little Lexy kicking some ass.
Never Grow Old (2019)
Pointless Western
Long, boring, pointless movie about weak people in the middle of nowhere making poor choices and dying young.
Another Life (2019)
Intergalactic Trainwreck
The first contact with intelligent extraterrestrial life forces Earth to send the most expensive spaceship ever built to make contact with the probe's home planet. Who do you send on this most important mission in the history of the planet? You send a thirty something woman with no managerial skills to command several twenty something, snarky slackers. Mix in the fact that the slackers are all single, strangers and horny. What could go wrong?
Aquaman (2018)
Awesome in every aspect
If you want an action movie with great characters, sexy actors, great sets, great story, phenomenal dialogue, terrific CGI, and a wonderful script, this movie has it all.
A wonderful, old time Saturday matinee adventure flick!
Smallfoot (2018)
Great story, great songs, upbeat and heartwarming
Bought this on itunes for the kids ( 7,10) on Saturday night. I think I loved it as much as they did!
Great animation, well written, well directed. It is a wonderful product from some very talented writers, actors and director. The extras on itunes are very informative. Loved the song in 28 languages.
Feng huo fang fei (2017)
Poorly Written Snoozer
When you can't wait for a movie to end you know it is really bad. The acting, story, photography, action, casting, and everything associated with filmmaking was below par. In short, this film should not have been made.
Blindspotting (2018)
Instant Indie Classic
I was very much surprised how much I enjoyed this movie. I am still thinking about it a day later. Not too many movies have this much character development that you can actually understand each character's point of view. Action, comedy, and drama all in one well put together story.
The Healer (2016)
Awesome Film
I did not know what to expect, but this movie had me roght from the start. Excellent story, great writing, great cast, great acting, interesting locations, it had me crying and laughing. What more do you want?
You Were Never Really Here (2017)
Slow and dull, then murders, then slow and dull, then.....
A decent story, bad or no dialogue, good action, long, slow periods of nothing, then some action again. The editing was awful. Some scenes, like walking from the lake, have no relevance to the story but seem to go on forever. Other scenes of interest- taking out the Governor's bodyguards, are skipped to show them lying on the ground after being hammered. Direction was bad, editing was worse, acting was strange and the story made little sense.
