Windfall (2022)
SO................................................................SLOW
I like all the actors in other stuff ok (especially Plimins in BreakingBad), and the plot was simple, yet ok - maybe the script (which was basic) or the acting (which was uneven at best) is to blame but it just didn't work for me. The music made me watch most of it, it was very engaging if not overdone in places. But I bailed before the end because I had better things to do - like anything else!

Why would you want to watch such negative television?
While I agree that the characters are well drawn and the acting is incredible, what an epic and crushing downer. There's absolutely an art to the technical aspects of the program, but why would anyone want to see tragedy upon tragedy, heartbreak after heartbreak, pain on top of pain. Not to say "happy endings" are always the answer, but homeless people seem to have it better than this lot. Granted, I'm sure there are some life lessons here but I don't need to spend my time getting my feelings hurt by a freaking TV show - and because this IS well made that is what they want to happen. I do not see the upside. Grasping the appeal of this kind of teleplay is befuddling, perhaps more than the miniseries itself. I saved myself a lot of sad hours watching uncaring, annoying negative people zombie through hardship and adversity by skipping this rest of this maudlin cry fest. A special thanks to Rich Muller from Berkeley, California - his review was spot on and allowed me to put my time to better use. Perhaps those hours could be spent improving the world instead of reveling in all it's tragedy. Maybe that's the lesson for me here.
There Was a Crooked Man... (1970)
Kirk Douglas' 'The Good, the Bad & the Ugly" 2 out of 3 is BAD!
Wow, caught this wildly unbalanced "crapterpiece" on basic cable and could not believe how times have changed, you could never make this today - and why would you want to? This movie is in a lower class by itself. The killing here is random and wimpy, nobody seems bothered at all as people get murdered left and right with no affect. I understand this is trying to be a comedy, but you'll find none blacker. Kirk Douglas role basically takes Newman's character from Cool Hand Luke and removes everything likable or charming from it. Henry Fonda is as wooden as a wagon wheel and the rest of the cast does their best to clean up the mess. Racism, sexism, homosexuality, rape, robbery, murder - it's all here and you don't care at all. And I can't help but bitch about the score, which was perhaps the worst and most inappropriate of any Western, maybe any movie! Imagine a contemporary 70s style urban soundtrack from a Gene Wilder film or a Mel Brooks feature and you get the idea. Ugh - even basic cable could do better.
