Ban shi mi tang ban shi shang (2020)
Never a dull moment!
First of all, "THANK YOU" for not dubbing over the actors voices! That made me very happy as a viewer.
I loved this series! You had Drama, Romance and Comedy all in one. I laughed, I cried, and had several, "Wait, what?!" moments when an episode took a surprising twist just when I wasn't expecting it. No need to jump from episode to episode. All of the episodes had something in them that kept you glued to the screen. If it wasn't something funny, then it was something suspenseful, and just when you thought you had a character all figured out, you got a surprise of finding out otherwise.
I've always liked Luo Yunxi in Wuxia series, but was amazed at how easily he transformed into this incredibly smart and suave character. He's simply a fantastic actor over all!
The on-screen chemistry between Luo Yunxi and Lai Lu and their characters was wonderful! The casting team did a great job! The whole cast was perfect for their characters.
So, if you want to enjoy a fun, romantic series that includes dramatic twists and turns, this is it! :-)
I Can Only Imagine (2018)
Far better than I expected
I figured the movie wiuld be good, but it was far better than I expected. It was excellent!
I laughed, I cried and then I wanted to cheer because of the wonderful change in such a bad Father, who with God's help and a Son's forgiveness, turned out to be such a good Father.
J. Michael Finley did a fantastic job portraying Bart, and who would have ever guessed Trace Adkins could act? Actually, Dennis Quaid and J. Michael Finley both deserve to be considered for an award on this. They were spectacular!
I will be going to see the movie again.
Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003)
Heart-wrenching! Be sure you have tissues!
This movie was excellent! From the very beginning of the movie, you couldn't help but find Aman Mathur (Shah Rukh Khan) charming and lovable! His cheerfulness and big smile was contagious!
Preity Zinta did a wonderful job as Naina. Saif Ali Khan was excellent portraying Rohit Patel, Naina's best friend. All three actors played their parts very well. The friendship between the three of them was quite touching.
Half way through the movie I realized I was going to need a box of tissues, especially when Naina's baby sister thought she was the trouble for the family. When she asked her Mother when God would send an angel to them, I found myself wanting to cuddle her and tell her it would all be okay.
Even though Naina seemed to be a negative personality, you had to learn why she had become the way she was. Eventually, you knew that Aman and Rohit were both drawn to her. You just assumed that one of the men would likely fall in love with her, but with all the twists and turns in the story, you weren't able to decide what was going to happen. Just when I thought I had it all figured out, something different would occur and throw me off track.
The "other woman" in the movie caught me completely off guard! I thought for sure that I had her pegged correctly and knew what she was all about, but I was wrong.
Like I said, there are many unexpected twists and turns in this movie, but as for the ending, well, just watch and see!
Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham... (2001)
Great Movie, But LONG Dance Scenes
"Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham" was a very good movie, and I loved the story. I would have to say the dance scenes in the movie were a bit too long for me. Don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoy the music, songs and dance in the movies from India, but I found most of these dance scenes dragging me away from the actual story for longer than I wanted. I would get engrossed in what was going on with the family and then a lengthy dance scene would take place and I had to re-group to get back into it.
I don't think this is a "spoiler" but the scene where Rahul and Anjali's son sings for the school brought tears to my eyes. It was a very touching scene and the audience watching him at the school responded the same way I would have. :-)
I understand Yash, their Father, thought he was right to do what he did, but I found him to be heartless at that point. Fortunately, Rohan did too. The relationship between Rahul and Rohan tugs on your heartstrings, and I was so glad that Rohan moved forward on what "he" thought was right. His method of handling the situation was smart and it gave him a chance to see Rahul's wife and child as they live.
Overall, I enjoyed this movie and I think most anyone who sees it will enjoy it as well.
Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012)
"I Can't Quite Put My Finger On It"
Before I write one thing, please let me say that I love Shah Rukh Khan! I think he is a wonderful actor and just his facial expressions alone in a movie have sold me on that.
So, this is a good movie and SRK makes a great Samar Anand, both as a civilian and a Major, but there is something about this movie that won't let me give it a higher score. I can't quite put my finger on it. It may be the differences in ages between SRK (Samar) and Katrina Kaif (Meera) that I struggled with, both in real life, and in the attempt to make them look closer in age in the movie.
Shah Rukh Khan has always looked younger than his actual age to me, but the 19 year age difference between he and Katrina Kaif was difficult for me to put aside. Granted, if I was an actress in Indian movies doing my first kissing scene, Shah Rukh Khan would be my pick, but even so, I think someone maybe a little older than Katrina Kaif could have been a better fit for the movie. She didn't have to be his age, but possibly have a few more years on her. Samar always looked much older to me than Meera in the whole movie, especially when he was supposed to be 28. I didn't have a problem with Anushka Sharma's (Akira) age because she was meant to be younger than him, and there was no actual romantic relationship between them.
I did like the story and the ending, and I was very glad that Major Anand didn't get blown up at any point in the movie. I kept waiting for that to happen and was going to be really ticked off if it had. :-)
Over all, it was a good movie and I enjoyed it, but I do think another actress (and I don't mean Priyanka Chopra) could have made a better Meera and had better chemistry with Major Anand.
Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998)
What A Great Story!
What an awesome movie and such a great story! Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol once again, had wonderful chemistry!
The first few minutes of the movie dragged a little, but it wasn't long until you were absorbed in the love story, not knowing which girl would end up with Rahul in college. Little Anjali was precious! She was the perfect choice to play Rahul's daughter and of course, Johnny Lever will make you laugh.
SRK was charming and witty as always, and Kajol was just as adorable in this movie as she was in DDLJ. She and Rahul had the best friendship and I thought it was great that Tina didn't expect that to end because of her. Instead, the three of them were friends, which was nice to see. Usually, the "other woman" breaks up a friendship, but not here. Tina was a kind and caring character.
I won't say much more because I don't want to spoil it for you. I will say, this movie was fun and heart warming! It's a classic love story that I'll want to watch again and again.
Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995)
Still Mesmerizing 22 Years Later
I absolutely loved "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge!" I am an Italian American woman and thought I had seen all the best love stories ever made, until I saw this movie. Spectacular!
I've had many friends recommend "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge" over the years, but never took the time to see it, so when my friend Rajni from Mumbai asked me last week if I had ever seen it, I decided to make the time. I'm very happy I did!
The movie was entertaining, fun and within a few minutes of watching the movie I found myself wrapped up in seeing Raj and Simran build a love story that made my heart melt! What a beautiful movie! I've been humming, "Mere Khwabon Mein" all day.
Of course, Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol were perfect for the roles of Raj and Simran, who were absolutely adorable! I have seen them coupled in their other movies, as recent as 2015's "Dilwale" but must say, this is their very best! Knowing that I will watch this movie several times more, I purchased it.
So, it seems to me that "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge" still mesmerizes those who have never seen it, even 22 years later!
Happy New Year (2014)
An entertaining and fun movie...loved it!
So big deal, the movie had a lot of cliche's in it. No one cares about that in an Arnold Schwarzenegger movie. You sort of expect it. I enjoyed this movie because it was "entertaining" and took me away from all the depressing things I see on a regular basis in life. Just seeing Shah Rukh Khan dancing in a pink tutu and jumping into the arms of Sonu Sood was enough to make me laugh out loud. I mean, c'mon, how can you not laugh at scenes like that, which by the way had the piano tune, "The Entertainer" playing in the background, or Shah Rukh Khan dressed like Jackie Chan, sparring with a Korean dude, while "Everybody Was Kung Fu Fighting" is playing?
Okay, it started out as a well planned heist for revenge, but turned out to be, for me and for "Charlie," a story that made me feel good about 6 people who were willing to put themselves out there and won the respect and applause from all those people that had originally booed them and treated them disrespectfully. It was one of those movies that made you happy to see the the underdog win!
I'm not from India, I'm Italian, but during this movie, I found myself cheering on "Team India" primarily because they were so proud of their country and their heritage. Not only that, the music and dancing was great! It's one of the best soundtracks I've heard in a while, so I bought the soundtrack...and the movie.
"Happy New Year" was definitely a "feel good" movie. I don't think the movie was meant to be this epic drama. Leave that to "Devdas" and "Kal Ho Naa Ho." It was meant to be a fun, happy, musical movie that left you energized and proud of your country and it's people! We need more of that in our world!
Dilwale (2015)
Very Enjoyable Movie
I'm not certain why there are so many negative reviews on the movie Dilwale (2015). I watch a lot of International movies, most of which are movies from India/Bollywood, and I found Dilwale to be very enjoyable! I hadn't seen the movie, but was looking for one that would touch on drama, romance and comedy, but not be too over the top or leave me sad like "Kal Ho Na Ho" did. Whew! That one was tough! This movie wasn't tragic, too romantically intense or ridiculous; it was simply a "sit back and relax" kind of movie.
The only thing in the movie that annoyed me was the 5 minute date. That was a bit corny, but not intolerable.
I found this movie to be very entertaining! It had a good story, it was fun (Johnny Lever always makes me laugh), and of course, SRK and Kajol were best matched as a couple for this movie.
So, I would have to give this movie a definite thumbs up!
