We Are Your Friends (2015)
Can't stop thinking about this movie
I really liked it! Even Zac Efron, as a man roughly the same age as him, I hate to like him, but he's hard to hate in this one. It was beautifully shot. It's a movie surrounding the digital music scene. There's parties, drugs, music, and extremely beautiful women. "I love it here".
The whole movie builds (albeit slowly at some points) towards the ending pretty nicely. Wes Bentley is one of the best at playing those characters you love to hate. Him and Zac have a very genuine relationship., in fact the whole movie is very genuine to me.
Emily Ratajkowski though.... I mean, she's literal perfection. They actually make me want to "roll" in Vegas. I can't imagine what that life would be like being from a small Canadian town. Maybe that's why I enjoyed it so much. I got to see what it would be like to do things people think you're not supposed to. Seeing the pitfalls and triumphs of the ride was pretty amazing.
Any rating below a 7 is a crime, how many story lines are 100% organic, give me this over another Spider-Man reboot any day...
Pretty pumped for the Spider-Man reboots TBH.
Jurassic World (2015)
This... THIS could be epic!
I don't think they could have done much better on this effort here. The I- Rex is something we all wish could have been in the rest of the movies. It wouldn't be practical, there are too many other subplots to develop. But this dinosaur is just a hint and what could follow in the other sequels. We could see some Gorilla-Dinos soon, we might be feeding T-Rexes to the next hybrid.
Also how the hell do they keep building these islands and not have proper protocol when stuff runs bad. Like their most powerful rifle couldn't take down a raptor. They should just all have RPGs at all times. One guy with a solid shot and that's the end of the movie.
Also the redhead is a babe, and is more babe-a-riffic as the movie goes on...
Mad Max (1979)
Mad Max Vs. The Test of Time
I'm born in '86 so I can't appreciate certain levels of this movie. I feel like it's one of a kind. There aren't many movies from back then, that could stand up to the remakes of today. Yes it's odd, old, and sometimes a bit far fetched. There is just no denying it's epicness. I can't believe Mel Gibson got picked for this role because his buddy needed a ride to the audition. Mel shows up with his face punched in from a drunken brawl and the director spotted him and gave him the lead role! Just goes to show you, always get into bar fights, you could end up like Mel Gibson! Stay tuned for my reviews of Mad Max II, and Mad Max III - Tina Turner's Hair.
Meet the Parents (2000)
Meet The Cliché
I have watched this movie a few times now, just because it's always on TV. Ben Stiller isn't epic with the love interest scenes, but him and Robert DiNero kill their scenes for what they're given. It perfectly sums up the terrifying feelings men go through when they meet the in-laws for the first time. It's my nightmare, down to the cat, who the hell prefers a cat over a dog? The breakfast scene is the worst. Owen Wilson's character is the most punchable guy on the planet. I would have dropped that fool the second I met him, like we were on the yard and I needed to establish the fact that I'm top dog now. I think the second installment with Greg's parents is one of the few cases where the sequel may surpass the original, even though the original is nothing to write home about, it does have that comfortable feeling of familiarity.
The Turbo Charged Prelude for 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003)
If Charlie Chaplin did F&F
An 8 might seem generous here. The idea of a franchise (Vin Diesel) wanting such a complete picture, that they create short movies to fill plot holes, is just perfect to me. I think they could stand to do a little more of that, 6-22 minute segments with various characters. This portion of the franchise coming in at about 6 minutes is all silent. It has pieces put together fro the time Brian ad Dom went their separate ways at the end of the first. It has a nice little segue into the Miami scene. It gives a quick glimpse of what it might be like trying to make a name for yourself, all while finding your own way. The best part of this short film is no doubt, when a baby is born, not literally obviously, but something comes from nothing, and it just makes you appreciate that much more.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014)
They almost have it right!
Far and away a better series than the original Spider-Man trilogy. It doesn't look like we will get to see a third installment just due to the fact that Spidey is swinging through the MCU on another reboot. It's just too bad they didn't wait and have this be the MCU reboot. Emma Stone & Garfield are great, both separately and together. He adds some much needed comic relief. Stuff you're actually supposed to laugh at instead of Toby Maguire's stupid dance in the black suit just being funny for how truly bad it was. The story arc they choose to develop in the second installment is a much better choice than the original as well. Looking into the lives of Peter's parents is something the common viewer had no clue about. I hope they continue to explore these stories in the new potentially 9 movie reboot. I can't see them finding a bigger babe/dork than Emma Stone for the fanboys to crush on, but I hope they do!
The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)
Reboot City!
Honestly, I'm one of those guys who hoped like hell for our boy Spidey to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I love the idea of the shared universe I think it's genius. That all being said, It's an absolute shame that Garfield was shut down early. He is clearly the better Spider-Man. The chemistry between him and Gwen is real, for obvious reasons. There are some new shot styles in this reboot. The POV shots are incredible. The entire vibe of the movie is much cooler than Tobey Maguire has ever been in his wildest dreams. If only they saved the "Amazing" reboot for the MCU we would all see the most tight butthole movie yet. Emma Stone might be the world's biggest babe. Dennis Leary does a great job with the time he was given, if they let him drop a hard f-bomb that would have shown his true bread & butter.
I will absolutely follow up with the sequel, but I can't even wait for him to swing through the MCU.
Spider-Man 3 (2007)
Just forget the dance ever happened...
As a 28 year old man I watched the Spider-Man franchise in full for the first time. Never having seen Spider-Man 3 at all, and hearing what I heard, I wasn't optimistic. There were accurate comments, and others who were unrealistic with their reviews. This movie had a fantastic base plot. Topher Grace is a huge pussy but, hey, so is Toby Maguire. So if you can get past the worst dance in movie history, this was a valid addition to the trilogy. Some of the CGI was questionable, I blame the saturation of characters. Too many people with too much maintenance, leaving major story arcs left most untouched. I just got a major feeling of deja vu from seeing the Batman franchise crash and burn after Batman & Robin. With Spider-Man 3 being far less of an atrocity there was still plenty of room for a Spider-Man 4. Now with Spidey joining the cinematic universe hopefully they can finally get it right.
No Good Deed (2014)
No Bad Acting
Idris Elba & Taraji P. Henson should have done something bigger. With a basic script in what I would imagine was a small budget film, these two impress me. The intensity and tension between the two seems all too real. It does have a few moments where the viewers might yell at their TV set, but that's what keeps you interested. That coupled with a short running time under 90 minutes it's worth a watch even just for the two stars. Adding the aspect of kids to a thriller gives an added need to cheer for the heroine. Given what these two have moved on to thankfully they won't have to explore a sequel. This was good as an independent effort, a follow up would ruin the first. With a different musical tone, and a few small changes the could have even made it as a Comedy/Drama. Keep the white tank top whatever you do.
Tommy Boy (1995)
Fat guy in a little coat
It was 1996, I was 8, I put Tommy Boy in the VCR. Little did I know I just made a life changing decision. The character of Tommy Callahan is one of Chris Farley's best efforts. It was written for him, and he did it better than anyone else every could have. The movie itself could have just faded into the monotony of other 90's comedies. Tommy and Richard are childhood frenemies, after a major issue at the plant, they have no choice but to get into Richard's cherry 1967 Plymouth Belvedere GTX and drive across the country on the biggest sales run of their lives. Will they do it? Who knows... but Bo Derek is a babe, and maybe the first MILF any 90's kid every truly crushed on.
