Cobra Kai (2018)
Funny and enjoyable. Don't take seriously!
I really like this show. It's definitely flawed, but thoroughly enjoyable.
William Zabka as Johnny Lawrence is a revelation! Such comic timing. Where has he been?
I've noticed lots of 1 star reviews here (some would give 0 if possible apparently), but are these people missing the point perhaps?
This is a comedy, which is very much tongue-in-cheek. It isn't trying to be a hard hitting drama. It's a bit of fluff.
I find comparisons to the original movies amusing, as people seem to be talking about them as works of art! They were average if we're all being honest, which isn't to say that I don't watch them with a great deal of fondness. They were very much of the time and I still enjoy seeing the 1st movie every now and again.
Cobra Kai is an amusing continuation of the story.
No question that the characters are over the top. None of them seem very bright at all. They can be 100% certain of something one second, and then do a full 180 with very little in the way of persuasion. That can be irritating.
And yes, the fight scenes often border on ludicrous in terms of actual ability, and then over the top violence.
But I think it needs to be viewed in the right context.
This show certainly doesn't seem to take itself too seriously, so neither should we!
Stay Close (2021)
Feels like Hollyoaks
Embarrassing script and cringeworthy acting. I couldn't bear more than half of the first episode. Feels like an episode of Hollyoaks, which I don't watch for these reasons (amongst many others).
So many good shows out there that are worth taking the time to watch, and it was very obvious very quickly that this isn't one of them.
As I didn't even finish one episode, I didn't feel that I could reasonably give it a very low rating, but what I actually saw deserved 1 star in my opinion.
Poor.
ThunderCats Roar (2020)
I like it..
I was surprised to see poor scores from people across the board for this show.
I watched the original (which was ok but never a fave of mine, it took itself far too seriously), and I personally don't feel that this needs to be a remake of that?
Yes the animation is amateurish, but I suspect that this is intentional to accentuate the humour that runs through the show.
My kids watch it, and I frequently find it funny.
Overall, I think it's a decent new cartoon.
Maybe I'm missing something?!
Worth a 7 in my humble (and possibly uneducated) opinion.
