Smokey and the Bandit Part 3 (1983)
They made more than one Smokey and the Bandit???
As far as I'm concerned, "Smokey and the Bandit" had no sequels. The second movie was bad enough....a drunk, loser Bandit trying to get his act together. C'mon! That's not the guy from the first movie. Bandit was the hero, the guy everybody looked up to. He was in charge and had respect.
Then, they come out with "Smokey and the Bandit 3". Whose terrible idea was this? It was just a ridiculous farce with no plot, no story line, and really just a complete embarrassment. God, I love Jerry Reed, but why, brother, why did you make this movie??? Luckily, Burt turned it down as did Hal.
Hell, as bad as this movie was, maybe they should've cast Dom Deluise as the Bandit.
White Lightning (1973)
Not a bad beer drinking movie
White Lightning is the kind of movie you can watch with a couple of your buddies while enjoying a cold one. We watched it again the other night (my second time seeing the movie) and its just a really good movie. You have to like Burt Reynolds, you have to be able to get past the stereotypical Southern image, and you have to be able to watch Ned Beatty without laughing (think Deliverance). If you can get through those three, then you'll like White Lightning.
It is a serious movie. There is far less humor than you're used to seeing out of Reynolds. And, thank God, there is no Dom Deluise! Have a Burt Reynolds night with your buddies. Rent "The Longest Yard", "Deliverance", "White Lightning" and "Smokey and the Bandit". You'll enjoy them all.
