You People (2023)
Misguided
This film is an old tale that has been told a handful of times by now. In past films of this kind, it was always the white dad that had to grow out of his racist mindset. This film has been updated to reflect current times. That being said, the black father was the racist one this go around. Perhaps they should have made his racism more humorous or seem less validated. When you write racist characters, you're goal is not normally to get the viewers to agree with their racism. However, it did appear as if that was their goal almost. The white mother was bubbly and excited about her son getting married and tried too hard to learn and get to know all about her future wife and her culture. She went unrealistically overboard of course. But For some reason, the writers wanted the viewers to feel as if that overly accepting behavior was problematic. It's in fact normal to be an excited mother. Aggravating? Yeah definitely aggravating but that's something people endure through because that level of motherly excitement about her little boy getting married is always temporary. Jonah's character's best friend was a black person. Yet, his friend made to clear to him that their races will never be cool because of what "You People" did. Jonah's character was made to feel as if he was "Too comfortable" around black people. They made it seem that being too not racist somehow made him racist. This film didn't seem to resolved or bridge racial gaps. It just made white people feel like no matter what, we are the enemy and to just stay away. Doesn't matter if you grew up with black role models on your walls in the black culturally dominated America, you're still the enemy. We need to accept that and keep our heads down. There are a lot of great movies that are really telling about racial issues, but this is not one of them.
The World According to Jeff Goldblum (2019)
Heart Warming
Jeff Goldblum is eccentric. He is easily amused and captivated by the simplest of things. He can appear to be childlike a times. This documentary series' primary goal isn't to be educational. So don't apply that expectation to this series. Just sit back and briefly enjoy watching someone in wonder of something considered ordinary. It can help you also appreciate the little things.
Space Jam: A New Legacy (2021)
Was Actually Very Decent
Only gave it a Ten so that it could eventually reach a more honest ranking than what it currently has. This film deserves at least a 6. People are judging this film as if it could have been Oscar potential but dropped the ball. It's just a kids movie. Let's appreciate LeBron for agreeing to do such a film. He knows he's not a great actor and he even jokes about it in the film. He was aware that Space Jam means a lot to others and had big shoes to fill. Over all this film was far better than I expected. So many fun fictional character cameos. The original Jumanji was great. The remake with the Rock was great and was a reimagining just like this space Jam. It was a fun film if you leave unreasonable expectations at the door.
Dark (2017)
This show could potentially have two more season
Acting 10/10. Music 10/10. Story telling 10/10. Could this show possibly get better? Yes it can! Although the additions I have in mind aren't necessary, I do feel it could only increase the overall enjoyment if executed properly. The first two seasons are of Adam's world. You see Claudia's VERY IMPORTANT role in that world. Claudia murdered the version of herself from Eva's world and impersonated her in eva's world. Meaning there is one Claudia operating in both Adam and Eva's world. She has an equally important role in Eva's world yet we don't see that whole story. I think it would be great if they made two more seasons about Eva's world. I would love to see the chain of events that lead to the third season where the two worlds meet. We get to see Adam's world unite if Eva's but not a storyline leading Eva's world into uniting with Adam's world. If they made those seasons you would watch season one and two first. Then the two seasons of Eva's world and then watch season three where their storylines become now one. That may or may not be the best order for first time viewers. Idk. In order to keep things extra mysterious like it was for original viewers, It might be better for them to watch season 1-3 and then go back and watch the seasons of Eva's world. Or the first time viewer could watch seasons of Eva's world leading into the third season. And then watch the original first two seasons after. Idk. I just know It will create fascinating viewing options that no other show has. Also, having those two additional seasons will allow the viewer to become more emotionally invested in Eva's world and all the parallel characters in it so by the time they two worlds meet you get this exciting "Avengers Assemble" type feeling.
The Midnight Gospel (2020)
Have an open mind
This show isn't for everyone for a lot of the same reasons podcast are for everyone. The show is primarily about hearing people out. Each character has a fascinating perspective on a different subject. The animation is brilliant and Duncan has a great voice for it. It's just 8 short episodes. And the final one has an important message that can touch every human being
Tiger King (2020)
An unbelievable chain of events
The film maker created a very linear story line. But what impressed me the most was how lucky he was. It was right place right time. The documentary was originally going to be about poisonous snakes. But something deviated him from that path. This documentary was exactly what I needed to get my mind off the virus.
Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
The whole trilogy was just a rehash
A New Hope's plot: a droid with a secret. Planet destroying weapon is the primary threat. Unlikely hero. Rebellion in the works
The Force Awaken: a Druid with a secret. Planet destroying weapon is the primary threat. Unlikely hero. Rebellion in the works
The Last Jedi simply wasn't good
Return of the Jedi: The sith has again another planet destroying plan in the works. Sith tries to convert our hero to the dark side while our hero tries to convert an enemy to the light. Supporting hero's have a final showdown while this attempt to convert takes place
The Rise of Skywalker: The sith has again another planet destroying plan in the works. Sith tries to convert our hero to the dark side while our hero tries to convert an enemy to the light. Supporting hero's have a final showdown while the attempt to convert takes place.
I do not understand why they could not progress the story line. The original trilogy ended with a return of the a Jedi. Why couldn't Luke rebuild the Jedi order? Why is there still an evil empire? Why did all the things that took place in the original trilogy not matter? Return of the Jedi ended with our hero's defeating the empire. The force awakens begins as if it never happened.
Watchmen (2019)
Just Feels like it doesn't belong in the same universe as the novel/film
As a fan of the graphic novel and the film I just don't feel this show Belongs. I have read the novel many times and have watched the movie at lease once a year since it's release. The Novel was always Kind of political. Since this is a modern day watchmen take on current issues, I suppose I can see why they would go with a racial approach. But it all just falls flat. The characters personalities aren't very likable. The things that took place in the first ep. Was kind of cringy and didn't feel like Watchmen at all. Idk. The first episode is suppose to provide me with a feeling of wanting more and it simply did not do that. It only made me feel like they placed the Watchmen name and elements on something Unaffiliated. I did finish the mini series eventually. The writers took Laurie and made her the cocky FBI officer taking over an investigation Cliché instead of the character she is actually. Dr. Manhattan had a great deal of emotion and personality which contradicts his character. He is able to experience everything at once which prevents his personality from properly changing like that. Which his lack of humanity was not only a character trait but a plot point in the novel. There were some good moments. I liked the backstory they gave Hooded Justice and Manhattan's life he created but overall it wasn't good. If it didn't have the watchmen name on it, I would not have expected Jon and Laurie to behave like themselves. Therefore it would have been a decent show.
Wilfred (2011)
This show deserves a much higher rating!
The comedy show itself is insanely original, which is something all comedy writers hope to create but seldom do. Each episode has a theme. Such as happiness, or compassion, or honesty. Not only do they further the other all plot each episode but they make the overall plot pertain to the current theme of the episode. Which takes added effort. The jokes are dark and after very witty. You're robbing yourself of something great if you don't give the show a chance.
Hellboy (2019)
A lot better than the current rating suggest
I gave it an eight to hopefully increase the films rating. If I'm being truthful it's deserves high 6, low 7. It was a solid Hellboy with tasteful comedy. By no means is it a bad film. You definitely get what you pay for.
Game of Thrones: The Bells (2019)
Daenerys did what her father failed to do. The Anakin Skywalker of GoT
I'm okay with her being the Mad Queen but I feel that angle was underdeveloped. Any complaint I have with this show as a whole is that these last two seasons have been rushed. 20 episodes between two season would have been better. If D&D has that option and did not take it them they are to blame. If money is the issue I'll be more understanding.
Game of Thrones: The Long Night (2019)
Copy right reasons. The books will have the ending you hope for.
Now this is just speculation, but George R. R. R. R. R. Martin did confirm that the ending in his books will be completely different than the show's ending. With that in mind I imagine he already went through the legal process to insure that he will have the ending that he and perhaps everyone else might prefer. Otherwise books sale will go way down. So, with all that in mind, I think the show writers did a great job dancing around what they legally couldn't do and created an alternate ending that is also slightly satisfying to viewers. Because there was loads of foreshadowing throughout the series that do lead to Arya being the ultimate savior.
Breaking Bad (2008)
Doesnt deserve a 9.5
I don't believe the show should get a one star. I feel 8 would be fair. The only reason I gave it a one star is to help bring down the 9.5 rating. Because it definitely doesn't deserve that record breaking rating. I have seen the show twice and the first time I really enjoyed it. Some character were aggravating but I liked the story and the direction as well. But after a second watch made me fully understand why people like it but not understand the impressive rating. The characters are weak. Very weak delevopment overall
