The Christmas Card (2006 TV Movie)
10/10
I loved this movie!!!
1 January 2008
I absolutely loved this movie and rushed to buy it on DVD as soon as I could find it. The characters are wonderful and loving and so "real" it just made me want to be in that family myself. A lovely family in a beautiful setting...I'd recommend this movie to anyone. Too bad more old fashioned movies like this are not made anymore. To me this is the best Christmas movie that's been made in the last several years so don't listen to those that think the acting was less than stellar. Give it a chance and decide for yourself.

I've watched this movie more times than anyone could believe...but believe it or not each time gets better and better. It's New Years Day and guess what...I'm watching it NOW!

I hope you all have a wonderful 2008.

Very Cute Movie!
11 February 2005
Surviving Christmas isn't as awful as everyone is saying. I completely enjoyed it so much that I bought the DVD. Christmas with the Kranks was horrible compared to this so I hope people seeing all the negative comments on this movie will give THIS ONE a try. I don't think they will be disappointed.

Although Ben won't be up for an Oscar for this performance, it was the best film I'd seen him in, in years and his performance gave me lots of laughs. Christina Applegate was adorable and her parents were just a hoot to watch especially her dad. If the movie had been released in December instead of October I think more people would have been in the "mood" to watch and enjoy it. I am a huge fan of Christmas movies and this one will be one I watch every year with my family.

Didn't like it
8 December 2004
This movie had great actors but the subject matter really bothered me. It is an old movie so I was shocked it showcased a young lady from a good family getting "into trouble" and becoming pregnant and needing a husband to "save her." Yes she was married on a whim to a man she didn't even remember, but she had to drag an innocent man into the situation to marry her and give her babies a name. There are enough people in the world without morals in the world and I hate seeing it showcased in the guise of an innocent sweet movie. I'm sorry I saw it. Perhaps those of you that aren't bothered by this sort of thing may enjoy it but I will not watch it again.

I will never get tired of this movie!
13 September 2004
After seeing this movie countless numbers of times I still laugh and cry and just have the most wonderful feeling at the end. The first time I saw this movie I thought it was OK...but didn't like it as much as the first movie. After a few years I saw it again and absolutely fell in love with it. Now it has become one of my favorite movies and whenever I'm in a bad mood I can pop it in and smile all the way to the finish. Steve Martin is just the funniest man and watching his character change from hating the idea of being a grandpa and new father again never ceases to amaze me. The only thing I hated about that movie was that it had to end. I want to see more!!!! Each character did a great job and that has to be my dream house. If you want a feel good movie that leaves you happy and complete please don't miss this.

Absolute perfection!
13 September 2004
Ken Burns is a genius and we owe him a huge debt of gratitude for making this wonderful documentary on the American civil war. Even though this is several hours long, I have watched it over and over and still never tire of it. Each time I see it I learn something new. The voices doing the various parts are perfect, the pictures are perfect, EVERYTHING IS PERFECT! From the experienced historian to the novice all will enjoy this. So many things touched my soul from the start of the war to that lovely true letter from the soldier, Sullivan Ballough written to his wife when he knew he would die... (many tears were shed at this point) to the end. In my opinion I could comment on this for pages and pages but no matter what I said it could not show my depth of gratitude for seeing this masterpiece. It will go down as the best documentary ever about the civil war.

Very sweet and touching
13 September 2004
Although not my favorite Christmas movie I did like it enough to buy the DVD and I do watch it at least once a year. I took my little girls to see this on the big screen when it came out years and years ago so it's very special to me and my family. The angel to me absolutely makes the movie. He has the sweetest spirit and in such a quiet way he calms those watching and teaches us what the Christmas spirit is all about. The mother played by Mary Steenburgen did an OK job and the little children were precious especially the little girl. I do think it would have been a better movie if perhaps someone else had been cast as the father since his acting skills are lacking in my opinion. Even after all this, its worth the watch.

Simply wonderful
13 September 2004
This black and white short made almost 60 years ago is one sweet surprise to anyone who happens upon it. Turner classic movies airs this from time to time during the holidays and even though I saw it by accident last Christmas I'm so thankful I had the idea to tape it "just in case" it was a keeper. It takes place on Christmas eve long ago as three cowboys happen to show up at a small place where others also are wanting a place to stay for the night. Most are bitter and full of complaints until something happens to bring these people together on this freezing Christmas eve. A poor young couple wander in and are in obvious discomfort as the young woman is close to having a child. The people earlier so full of scorn and complaints all learn the true meaning of Christmas when they come together giving the couple the things they need so that this new little baby can safely be born.

It will make your heart swell and bring a tear or two to your eyes as you experience this sweet tale.

This movie grows on you
7 September 2004
I think most love a true story and this one to me is one of the best. I loved this movie the first time I saw it but each time since, I fall in love with it a bit more. Set in a time in our history where death and war (World War II) were on every mind, this sweet story shows how love and friendship can happen even between strangers who are bitter enemies forming a friendship that can and actually does wind up lasting a lifetime. It opens as a battle rages on showing the horrors of war while a mother and her son try to find a safe haven in the family cabin. Little did they know on that special Christmas Eve so long ago that something was going to happen that would change their lives forever. Enemies met in that small space and an understanding grudgingly developed between people even surprising them at the end and bonding them for life. Hopefully all will make a point of going back in time and experiencing this amazing true story. You won't be disappointed.

I loved this movie!
7 September 2004
This movie to me is so special that I can view it over and over and never get tired of it. It has become something I enjoy watching not only at Christmas but many times a year when I need a 'feel good' kind of movie. The actors do an amazing job of drawing you in and making you feel as if you are a part of the storyline. It is certainly worth buying if you have not taped it since it is one of the sweetest holiday movies I've seen in recent years. It is a family film showing the harsh side of life while giving hope that goodness can come out of a difficult struggle if you have the support and strength to get through it. My family and I will enjoy this movie for many years to come.

Gettysburg (1993)
10/10
My favorite movie of all time
7 September 2004
Gettysburg is the best civil war movie I have ever had the privilege of watching. Martin Sheen would not have been my choice as General Robert E Lee but very quickly into the movie I found myself truly believing he was the great general himself. Jeff Daniels as General Chamberlain was simply amazing in his similarity to the real person in looks and his performance brought me to tears. Once I got past the awful beard of Tom Berenger who was playing General Longstreet, I was delighted at his performance which to me was an academy award worthy performance. Ronald Maxwell is my hero for bringing this wonderful story to life and to all the extras that were needed to make this movie a complete success my hat is off to you. If you can see this movie without immediately planning a trip the the beautiful town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, I will be very surprised. It is my favorite movie of all time.
