Outer Range (2022)
Disorganized and confusing
I wasn't sure what to expect, other than that I like Josh Brolin. However, this series seems to have no point to it, no solid plot, and to me comes off as just a lot of discombobulated garbage. I'm sorry to say this about something that Brolin is in, but so far I just don't see anything redeeming or even coherent in the series. I'm disappointed, and just can't get motivated to watch any more episodes.
Peppermint (2018)
A much stronger Jennifer Garner
I didn't like her in The Closer because she came off as weak and pouty, not the strong character that the role should have been. But in this movie, she comes off as a tough, determined woman on a mission. This is the Jennifer Garner I can respect.
Mr. Mercedes (2017)
A loser from the start
I don't know why Peacock is plugging this series. I watched the first episode, and about all I saw after the first action scene was this burned out old guy who was just moping around and looking depressed. The so-called villain was little more than a juvenile, whose character had no depth whatsoever; not credible at all. Even my wife, who loves crime drama, hated it.
Then Came Bronson (1969)
not what we expected
My dad was a motorcycle enthusiast, and when this series was first broadcast, he expected it to be about motorcycles. Apparently, that was how it was billed. So, he was very excited. But when it turned out to be about a guy who rode into town in the first scene and then spent his time dealing with people's personal issues, it was a huge disappointment. To me, it seemed as if he always seemed confused and befuddled by everything and everyone, and sat around looking lost. I was young at the time, and really didn't connect with most of the plots. So were both bored to death with the series and only watched a few episodes. Perhaps now I would see more meaning in the various struggles he encountered.
A Man Called Horse (1970)
As powerful now as it was when it first came out
This movie is a powerful testimony to the endurance and spiritual life of the Plains Indians, of a time gone forever. When I first saw it in 1970, I was impressed with the production, but after seeing it again more than 40 years later, I was far more moved. I am rarely ever brought to tears by a movie, but this movie touched me so deeply that it was a bona fide spiritual experience, and even more powerfully moving. It also serves as a testimony of how the Indians lived, their culture, and how they practiced their own form of spirituality. I think this movie is a "must see" for anyone wanting to experience what life might have been like in those long-past times. I found myself grieving along with the people of the tribe after the attack and tragic deaths of many of the tribes people.
Bathory (2008)
Nice scenery & costumes, but historically inaccurate
I was very disappointed in this movie. I won't give away the plot, so I won't comment on the actual content of the movie except to say that it was a completely false portrayal of this terrible woman.
The truth is that Elizabeth Bathory was a sadistic, psychopathic murderer who tortured and killed hundreds of young girls, so many in fact that the surrounding towns literally ran out of young women. It was only when she kidnapped and killed the daughter of a nobleman that she was finally stopped. I think the producers did a great injustice to everyone in making this movie. It is little more than a collection of fancy costumes and poor acting that contains virtually no historical fact.
