What a Girl Wants (2003)
5 Montages = Bad Screen writing
This was something I viewed on Oxygen with a girl I sleep with. We both agreed it was not only highly idiotic, unrealistic ( any lessons gleaned by the character or audience are useless because of the way they arrived there), and boring! But the killer was the 5 montages I counted in the movie. This is not something a good movie does. I bet at least 2/9ths of the movie was a montage! The acting wasn't terrible for being a teen oriented movie, the overall plot wasn't terrible, but the actual plot points were. Running for Prime Minister? And his fiancée already has a daughter? WTF? Overall this movie is worthless and anyone who enjoyed is equally so.
The Office (2005)
Excellent Comedy
First I'd like to state I've never seen the UK version nor would I ever want to watch the UK version as I wont get the humor, won't understand what they are saying most the time, and wont properly immerse myself into it. Secondly I also never saw the Hong Kong version of "The Departed(Infernal Affairs) but I still enjoyed that movie greatly. What is the point in stating this? Most the people who dislike this show are either writing their review from the perspective of being from The Commonwealth and seeing the UK version, or wrote their review circa March 2005. They aren't really judging the show on it's own merit and if they are, they aren't aknowledging their own distaste for anything American or different from their own taste.
I think this is possibly the one show that I would buy a TV for (I don't own one, but watch the DVDs on my laptop) because it never fails to satisfy me (That's what she said!) The one thing that I love is that it is pretty much consistent from episode to episode and the pacing is good. It also doesn't fall into a lot of the traps that many sitcoms do in relation to plot formulas.
All around one of my favorites!
