The Darjeeling Limited (2007)
Where there's Wes, there's Yellow poisoning
"Even if I succeed in escaping from this Universe.. I'll never be able to escape from myself. At some point in time I will have to deal with myself, and when I do, I will not have to think of escaping from the Universe: the notion of existence shall become clearer and the world shall become my home, the people my family" -Hinduism 101
Three rich, spoiled brothers of a dead father. Mother in exile serving god and the needy.
The eldest one has a vague but sensible idea, credit shall go to him.
The three brothers didn't attend their fathers funeral, but their dead father made them attend the boy's funeral. Karma says "they didn't miss the funeral at last"
Their lust for possession died when they threw all their Louis Vuitton bags to catch the running train. Karma says "detach yourself from all the possessions and embrace love"
They gained trust in each other after the spiritual journey. Karma says "these thing keep happening in India, not sure why?"
Rest is all Yellow as usual. What is Wes's obsession with Yellow? Have you heard of Turmeric poisoning, I mean it's mother-load of Yellow.
One thing: they showed a photo with a man full of blood in Gurudwara, why did they do that?a to infuse fear? it's a holy place where one would least think of harming others.
Another thing: It's stereotypical of west to relate spirituality with India. India is obsessed with corruption and power. It's an over- populated mess and it will just get worse with time. It was spiritual at one point in time but not any more. If you want Spirituality, go to Bhutan where HHI (Human Happiness Index) is valued more than GDP.
Detective Byomkesh Bakshy! (2015)
Bengalis must take over Bollywood for good
I am a Bangalorean and I must say that it's time for Mumbai to hand over it's keys to Bengalis because they have the potential to unlock Intelligence in Indian cinema.
I am fed up of Jingoism people have been having for Bollywood. Salman Khan (and other Khans) is a name synonymous to a disastrous Bollywood.
Indians are bleeding for Intelligent cinema.
Hats off to Dibakar! Masterpiece movie.
Few flaws but we are more than happy to spray vanilla cream over them, place a cherry on top and gulp with smile..
Beauty was once defined by looks, body and style but now it is Brains and just brains..

It's high time for Bollywood to..
Hello Bollywood..
a. I don't need to slog for 2.5 hrs to appreciate a movie. please slim it down to 1.5 hrs
b. Feed our imagination, not our patience
c. Let the Indian audience do some thinking too..infuse complexity into your scripts
d. Rajkumar Hirani effect works for his movies only. Please make us dislike Hollywood if you REALLY can (hint: don't spoon feed us with things that are predictable)
e. A leads to B leads to C leads to D is a very passé..twist the plot so that even you (directors) find it challenging to truncate it down to a successful movie.(Hint: Allegory is powerful if used in smaller doses)
Give some meaning to your beard and glasses which an ordinary man like me regards as "Intellectual"
PK (2014)
Honest, no BS review
Movie formula:
Indo-Pak aman + train blast + religious extremism - bollywood masala = AAMIR WANTS MODI TO WATCH THIS MOVIE
Aamir says "It's time to unmask your hypocritical BS and appreciate the goodness of all religions".
I want to see India free of all these religious extremists let be Hindu or Islam. It is also a wrong notion that well educated citizens are aware of this fact but academic education, in my view, is just a state of one's mind.
Aamir wants to give a tight slap to religious extremists in India(like Really Simple Syndication). He enjoys the freedom of not being a citizen of any country and uses it to his advantage to avoid controversies.
I still hate Bollywood shooting songs abroad, please grow up, please. I wished the movie started with the saucer landing scene, the intro could have been constricted to abt 10 mins max. Please evolve Bollywood.
UFO CGI: pls hire good CG specialists, come out of Krissh syndrome UFO landing in India: good Alien speaking Bhojpuri: good Movie script: could have been lot better Movie message: strong Anushka and her dad's role: was really not needed Boman Irani: could have got better n stronger role Sanjay Dutt: What? Why? where? how? Aamir/Alien: nothing alien other than green eyes and pointy ears (oh he anyway has pointy ears)
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012)
Too much of engineering is too bad
I would like to send a message to Peter and crew: Too much of anything is good for nothing. I watched "the making of Hobbit movie" in Youtube and I noticed people slogging with deadlines on their head, people enclosed in rooms working on setting background music, cinematic effects etc.. This is not a good/healthy way of creating cinema.
The movie was good with exceptional shots and sound but it lacked consistency: the fight sequences were rather stretched with "Age of empire style music", you know, like "just get done with the fights and move on" kind of thinking. The CGI was clearly evident, too much of pixel shading and pretty dented graphic configurations.
I request the movie makers to be more natural, let the deadlines stay dead and work outside the studios to stay in touch with reality and not get carried away with too much of imagination and fantasies.
"Imagination is a medicine which could turn into poison if taken in excess".
Hats off to every low fps part of the movie: exceptional cinematography.
Life of Pi (2012)
Psychoneuroimmunology weds Art
I don't read novels and I thank god for that(for me, the word "novel" itself is sufficient enough to induce sleep/boredom).
My first reaction after watching the movie:
1.felt nauseated, not because of sea. 2.felt like crying not because of the movie, but the allegory. 3.felt like transported somewhere in time and space, not because of 3D/CGI. 4.Remembered Yann Martel's genius, not Ang Lee or Parker or Pi.
I am recovering now and might not watch this movie again because it will take me away from theme of the movie.
Now, I am a different man, still figuring out the difference.
There is some sort of electric burst in my Brain.
Feels like my alter ego is born at last......
This is not a movie, this is an art.
