Baby (2015)
Perhaps the best spy action thriller in Bollywood
Baby is Bollywood's answer to Argo!!!!!!!!! The entire plot has been amazingly crafted. The performance of the entire cast was amazing. Bollywood rarely produces movies nowadays that are watchable, and in between comes this gem of a movie. The first half of the movie is good. However the real plot comes into play in the second half. The last 45-50 minutes of the the movie were so engaging that I could not remove my eyes from the theater screen. And the biggest merit of the film is the fact that there are no songs in the movie, only background music is there.
Akshay Kumar has played a superb role. Its time that he should realize the fact that he looks really amazing doing films like holiday, baby and Special 26, and that he should stop doing mindless commercial movies. Danny and Anupam Kher are great at their roles. The action scenes are amazing, and cinematography is good. The best part of the movie is its direction. Neeraj Pandey has made two awesome movies earlier, and with this film he sets the standards even higher. Why cant Bollywood have more of Neeraj Pandeys and Hiranis and Anurag Kashyaps? Why cant Bollywood churn even two quality films every month?
Kudos to Neeraj Pandey, Akshay Kumar and co.....
Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995)
Definitely Overrated......
I had heard so much about the movie everywhere that one day I decided to watch the movie. And guess what..??? I found the movie overrated. With due respect, I love watching Shahrukh's Chak de, MNIK, Swades, DON 2 (DON 1 was pathetic), but in this movie he was at his hamming best....!!!! I found his veer-zaara or Kal Ho Na Ho much better than this.
It would not have been overrated for me had it not been set as a benchmark in Bollywood movies (I mean there is Gangs of Wasseypur, Lagaan, TZP,Mother India, Sholay, Deewar, Swades, Andaaz Apna Apna, RDB and a very long list for setting Benchmarks ). For starters, the movie is actually at least 1 hour longer than what it's actual length should have been. Then there is an overacting Shah Rukh Khan at his peak.... And the script too is not so strong combined with so many loopholes and a monotonous and boring screenplay... I don't know how come it is said to be a benchmark film.
Having said that its just my opinion. But one thing is for sure that these filmfares and iifas are all so fake... SRK given the best actor award for DDLJ instead of Aamir Khan who definitely had given an amazing performance in Rangeela...
PK (2014)
One of the best Hindi Films ever made
There's something that you usually experience after watching an Aamir Khan Film - You always have a smile on your face after you have experienced it.
The second minute into the movie, and you know that something's out of the box in the movie. After around 10 minutes, you start realizing why Aamir Khan is such a versatile and gifted artist. As soon as he comes on the screen, you get attached to his role. He single handedly carries the entire first half of the movie on his shoulders. Such amazing is his screen presence that you would hardly notice any other character in the movie's first half. Having said that, all the other actors in the movie have played their role amazingly, especially Saurabh Shukla. The innocence and cuteness of both Aamir Khan and Anushka Sharma will make you feel very good. The film has some naturally funny scenes that have been implemented amazingly. At one moment there is an emotional scene, and the very next moment there's comedy. Though its not an out and out comedy, but its got enough humor to keep your laughing bones tickling, especially one long comical sequence when PK visits different holy places. The second half is also quite good, maybe I thought the last 15 minutes or so were a bit extended although it was there for conveying a different message. And thats the reason why I went with 9. Overall, Aamir Khan is a treat to watch and it might perhaps be his best ever performance. Anushka, Sushant, Sanjay Dutt, Boman Irani and Saurabh Shukla have played their roles equally well (Saurabh Shukla deserves a special mention).
Having said that you cant take away the credit from one of the country's finest director - Rajkumar Hirani. The direction is superlative and each shot has been executed amazingly. He has proved why he is the king of humor. The scenes switch from extremely emotional to comical with such an ease. Both Raju and Abhijat Joshi have spent considerable time in imagining each and every scene. They have written an almost perfect script. Thumbs up to both of them. Raju, you are a true master.
The music is situational and carries on with the film. You'll surely appreciate the music after watching the movie. The song 'Love is a Waste of Time' has been continuously humming in my mind since I've come out of the theater.
So Guys, go to the theaters nearby and experience the movie. The movie has some strong messages, and some smaller messages as well. Its been a long time a masterpiece had arrived in bollywood.
