Moon Child (2003)
Moon Child - is Gackt's soul - you gotta see this to love him
8 January 2008
A wonderful story - strangely sorrowful and infiltrating - touching the deepest feelings. Everything you see on the screen .... (futuristic sci-fi with the elements of the "ScarFace" and "The Interview With a Vampire" is what you actually see) - is a cocktail of stories - mix of everything incapable of being mixed; but the story is beautiful. It is not that I have those feelings only subjective because of my attachment to Gackt's art - no - I do not think it is about him, though, if considering the fact that he is the script author - I have to rethink my thought... The script is awesome - something unusual - it is just that everything became clear...... all, that is Gackt became clear to me. For all of his thoughts and all of his dreams are there in the story - hidden in between the lines. I know no man who would have been doing something creative and did not turn his own dreams and himself into words or images. All you see on the screen during the short moment of the film - is Gackt with a bit of Takahiza Zeze mix, (by a very tiny mix^__^). A specific place in my story goes to actors. let's begin from the very beginning LOL: Hyde - on only watching the first shots it becomes clear that Hyde should act more in the movies. He is a very good actor (I do not account couple of false moments in the middle of the film 'cause he is not a professional actor - he is a professional singer) - he has a wonderful capability to act with the look (sort of eyes acting) - I appreciate this in actors a lot, that that is why I can proudly say that if Hyde ever starts his acting career I will become his fan. He can gain huge success in it. Gackt - ))))))))) I will try to be gentle on him))))))) - as a script writer he is marvelous, as an actor - talented......not genius, but talented - good job, - now I love him even more.....there is something about him.....a sort of being natural. MORE - outstanding stunts.....at first I thought - first of all you might think that it is more to a stunt makers or graphics, but I have to tell you, after some concerts and making THINGS on them (made totally by Gackuto Kamui man.....he is my man), I realized that his stunts were possibly done by him self.....very outrageous and awesome scenes with his stunts they are))))) One more - a very beautiful scene with rain.......I will tell what I mean here only to those who had seen the movie. You gotta see this. Lee-Hom Wong - I remember his face but I have no idea where could I have seen him before - I have not seen any other film with him...nevertheless he is a good actor, a nice partner for Cackt in their common scenes. He looks good on the screen Taro Yamamoto - I noticed him while "Batoru Ruayaru" ("Royal Battle") - I liked his acting there, was glad to watch him acting here too - he is very talented, he gets "10" on 10 scale points for acting. Zeni Quock - marvelous - half of the movie she is silent but she speaks more when she is speechless than any other actor in the movie - my respects - good actress MORE - I cannot pass my own feelings by when talking about the film - so I share them. That is one of those movies that makes you alive - I have found at least something in Gackuto's art that pushes me up. (get me right here, all of you who are his fans, I love him very much, maybe just as much as you all do, and maybe somehow a bit more))))....I do not know.....he is the one who makes me feel dizzy, because of whom DEATH seems such a wonderful and sweet fruit, though forbidden one......(I guess no one can understand this) That movie calls for waves of emotions - I could not understand it until the end of the movie - why was I speaking to the characters - I do not do that often, when I watch movies, even when I watch them on my own...for that - film must be truly sympathetic and touch you deeply - it must be very powerful in the emotive way. That is the MOON CHILD - that is a very emotionally rich film, very empathic and perfectly filmed one.

Wisdom - wouldn't you do the same?
12 August 2007
I can still remember this film though I have seen it when I was somewhere like 14 years old. I feel like this is the story to listen to but not by the simple people all over the world but by those who are on the top of the power ladder. The rich get richer and poor become even more poor and there must be something changed about this - there must be someone. So the main character decides to be that someone, only not in the legal way. When in the end he comes to some conclusions.... I disagree that this movie is bad or that Emilio acted not well. This movie had a profound impression on me and I still think of it as of a good social drama.

could you predict it?
25 July 2007
This is the story about granting the wishes. A fairy tale where a boy wished to become a female and the association of wizards made him a girl as he wanted to....only because he believed in magic and they had to grant his wish though everyone (among wizards of course) considered this wish a very strange one. A funny idea - and very interesting one - because I (personally) could not predict the plot at all though from the very beginning it was almost clear how should the story end. Funny thing is that I still think of this story though I have seen it long ago........ Watch it and you will not regret it. That has everything - it is funny, aimed at youth, full of "a la Tarantino" style and comics style shots. Good acting of Artem Tkachenko and a lot of food for thoughts. It was for the first time in my life that I heard from the character of Tkachenko in the screen....was stunning and curious to me......I know I speak with general phrases but that is because everything I hide considers the things you gotta see on your own.

Sasha is a man who is not suppose to exist
10 July 2007
A woman borough a boy to this world and was alone. They both were alone because a boy had a gift and a curse in one package - he was capable of withdrawing sword from his arm. There was always a wound on his wrist in the cause of this "gift" - the wound of the deadliest weapon inside of his body. First he kills his constantly drunk stepfather who hurts his mom every time. Then he grows up and decides to find his real father. Just as simple as all the time for a superhero - he reaches the justice....but the society decides this justice is not necessary and dangerous which is indeed right 'cause it is not like in Hollywood movies that the character does not try to kill anyone - Sasha (he is the main hero acted by Artem Tkachenko) kills if the person who in his opinion deserves to die but gets blames from authorities and runs. In such a runaway from authorities and Mafia he meets a girl (acted by Chulpan Hamatova) and falls in love with her. Everything else is to be watched...not told. Be aware that this film is more about feelings and emotions but not about actions. This film is full of pain of the main character full of him and his vision of life.

Shaman King (2001–2005)

Something Special
9 July 2007
there is something very special about this cartoon indeed. that is no true shaman history at all....and I guess that is not about shamans basically. So! For those who considers he(she) can find it useful in study of a shamanism - not the right place. But for those who wanna see a very kind anime - you are on board. I have heard that kids really do accept everything from the cartoon as the pure and undeniable truth about the world of shamans.....but shamans predominantly do not get together in groups and they do not make competitions......anyway - as I said the most important thing in this cartoon is a friendship, love and backing up theme. Destiny and fight against evil at all costs - these are the basic aspects of this wonderful anime - surprising is the fact that this is anime that could be rated for kids of any age.

Very good film
14 May 2007
First of all I was all in desire to watch this film only for one actual reason - this reason has the name - Daniil Strakhov. I have never seen him in the full screen picture so that was interesting, but when I saw it I have found out that this is a very good work - in general this film makes a very good impression from the point of the view on the history of the Soviet Union.......not in general meaning but on some specific aspects - political question was revealed very well. I loved the stories - a lot of personal stories told in the film. There was no main hero and everyone was important to the plot. Couple of words about the plot of the film: the story starts in the North of Russia - near the border with Alyaska in early 1940s.....where American pilots transit planes to the Soviet pilots to combat Germans....... Everything else is to be seen by your own eyes and heard by your own ears.

Doom (2005)
GAME DOOM 3 based
5 May 2007
I know I will not be fresh about my thoughts as for the movie based on the fabulous thriller and horror game DOOM 3. Actually I am more determined to make this sort of comparison to the movie and the game as this film is based on the third part of the DOOM. One of the most fantastic games I have ever played. And the greatest disappointment of my expectations to the plot of the film. So! Comparison: FIRST - good things in compare: 1. monsters - what I loved in the game was the monsters part: they were very thrilling and almost natural. Very evil. A lot of the ideas of the anatomical mixes of human being to beasts - that was represented in the film more than I ever expected to. Even some stories of the monsters mutation. Some were only explained in the film but some in the game - so I get a very cute picture of monsters in the aftermath of both entertainments for me. 2. sci-fi classics - well, there is nothing more to say, I guess, 'cause all of these teleportations devices, space travel, blasters and magnetic impulse rifles and weapons of the future, Mars travel, ships, aliens, sci-fi gadgets - everything speaks for itself. I liked this part in both of the film and game presentations. Though the game shows more respect to the inventions of doctor Betrueger who was not even mentioned in the film alas. But his efforts in creation of the engines, power supplies, teleporters, engine capacitors things resembling to the idea of "perpetum mobile" and etc were amazing. I loved the stories told by the announcers in the game about some historically important inventions on Mars under the auspices of Dr. Betrueger. SECOND - bad things in compare: 1. nothing to say about this one........BUT.....

THIRD - what was better in the game but not in the movie? 1. Thrilling part - It was very terrifying to play the game. It infiltrated me deeply and I couldn't stop but moving forward to all those fears and sounds that were scaring me all over. The film itself was not scary at all. More like a mix of sci-fi and philosophy of good and evil in genes. 2. Foundation of ancient Marcian artifacts on Mars was the awesome idea in the game but nothing of that kind in the movie alas. That was a good mix black magic and science in the game and in the movie there was only a science of a human. Interesting but not as fresh as esoteric ideas. 3. sounds - the game was full of thrilling sounds - nothing of the king when you watch the film.

FOURTH - Different But Good in Both: in the game - the idea where are the monsters from and how to fight them comes from magic and ancient history of Mars - very interesting and kind of totally "bright". those soul-cubes to fight demons and etc. in the film - the idea how monsters appeared was connected to scientific efforts to create the perfect gene on Mars. Interesting, makes a lot of food for thought.

Total Reality in the movie
5 February 2007
That is what makes BRAT real masterpiece of the film-making - it looks real to the last shot. Every moment is a true history of Post Soviet Russia. Even Ukraine was of that kind. We are kinda different now but not in 1990's. All the atmosphere is real - I was not very adult then but I remember everything of the 1990's clearly - I was 17 when the movie was made and this movie was a call of reality for everyone here. You don't have to say it is impossible - we had people killed like that... Sergey Bodrov is a good actor and all the actors in the movie are great. The music of Nautilus makes the atmosphere of being there just at the moment of the story development. This band was on the top of it's popularity at the moment of the middle 1990's. There are a lot of people here allover the Post Soviet places who are fans of the band.

Any way - this movie is about some real aspects of real Post Soviet history.

Better then Vincent Kassel
15 January 2007
The plot of the movie is more than just interesting. You get into the deep trance until the title part and then you realize you have seen something special. This is where two people meet each other and have to deal with the circumstances both because of what they have done in their life and those they have nothing to do with. In my personal humble opinion this is the best role of Josh Hartnett. Once you have seen the movie you will never forget it. And despite the fact it resembles to the French movie "L'Appartement" with Vincent Cassel and Monica Bellucci, that is far better filmed and it is absolutely out of competition to any sort of the film with the similar plot. The story told here cuts deeply.

Donnie Darko (2001)

this is a great movie
21 November 2006
You have to watch it alone and watch it carefully. This movie has a great philosophy and I like that kind of philosophy. At first you think that authors are trying to say something about Freud's desires but than you realize that everything you see is different. You realize that what they show as time is very close to your idea of time and the way it changes. Donnie Darko is just a normal kid... I would actually like to be acquainted with him. I am a teacher and I pray to have such a student every day - this Donie Darko is very intelligent, asks a lot of questions - such men are identified as genius: they are open minded, curious and they have to pay for that with something (this case is somnambulism). At the end of my watching the movie I realized that I have a lot of questions not revealed... for those who care - just write about that in the letter to me. But these questions are only there because they should be. The story is not finished and you can think over what is going to be in the aftermath over and over. Life is what makes us wondering - and the plot of the movie in this case is close to life - despite the fact that this is philosophic sci-fi.

A good movie made after a good book
31 October 2006
Of course it is not a secret to anybody that this movie is based on the Book of Patrick Suskind "Perfume: The Story of a Murderrer". My personal opinion to both of the works differs a lot. I read the book and was astonished by some of the in between-lines thoughts of the author (some of them were unbearably unacceptable for me) but my total impression of the book was good. There were moments I felt so weird and unnatural but these moments in the book were the most beautiful ones. I couldn't feel the same at the same moments in the movie: no such strong impression of the first murder for instance. Though I loved other things in the movie: comparing to the book I can say that author made Jan-Batist a real monster but he felt so much love and devotion to that monster that I almost hated the book - in the movie Jan-Batist is the person not really capable of defining what soul, love, trust and other good things are (but he has a sort of rudiment to a human being) and at the end he realizes he is human and all human is close to him. As if he was trying to hide behind his senselessness. Ben Whishaw is very talented actor and his acting sometimes makes Jan-Batist sympathetic to me. I repeat my self - I talk only of my personal impression of both works - you should watch the film to understand it the way you understand life - listening to no one, because there are so much things you can see and hear as if been reading in between lines that it is impossible to give full and strict characteristic to Perfume as the film.

This is the best Ukrainian movie!
13 June 2006
I saw it a couple of times. This is my favorite movie made in Ukraine. Don't think that Ukrainian movies are dull. If you haven't seen the Propavsha Gramota you haven't seen Ukrainian films at all! This is the film based on the story of the famous writer Nikolay Gogol who was interested in Ukrainian traditions and culture. "The Lost Letter" is a funny story.... sometimes even hilarious - if of course you understand humor. Mykolaychuk acted greatly in this film. On my opinion this is his best work.... This film showed Zaporizhya kozaks the way simple people saw them those days - strong, skillful in arms, bold and valor. It begins with the battle and return of kozak Vasyl home where he is given the assignment to bring the document to the Emperatrice of Russia Elizabeth. He finds a friend and they both travel to St. Petersburg to deliver the "Gramota" to the Emperatrece....As it is described on the DVD - A heroic comedy with a blasting humor tells the story of the trip made by Vasyl and Adrew delivering the letter from Hetman to Russian Tzarutsya, and after all their happy return to their native Dekanka. All the other things are to be seen with your own eyes.

war is a pure reflection of beauty
4 October 2005
Actually these were the words of Dzhokonda and he really believed in what he said. He is an artist.......... he has that right. But what Luty said in reply made the moment to remember - war is no beautiful, war is full of horrors and death. two opposite points actually describe the sense. They went to Afghanistan - but they had different reasons for that...... some had to pass the obligatory duty to the Soviet Union and had no chance to escape that so they chose Afghanistan for they saw some unknown reason in that.... or they were even ordered to, some just wanted to look cool, some didn't know where they were going to (they didn't realize). This war was terrible....... this episode of the war showed uselessness of it in the fullest size ever.

The best war movie I have ever seen
23 October 2004
That is truly the best war movie ever made - it is realistic dramatic and terrifying. You begin to feel madness in no time with the characters. The war is hard and destructive and nothing more - that is what the movie about. You only try to live the final moment of your life and don't know if it is going to last longer than this war. Life has nothing to do here - it's only death, insanity, fear, fear, fear,..... Even Soviet movies are not that realistic. And there are no Americans that won II World War like in other American movies about this period.
