Atlanta (2016)
S3 is sooo skippable
Donald Glover has shown through the years that you can make relevant cultural commentary without forcing it down people's throat in S1 and S2. It is also very funny. In S3 the show becomes a satire of the show it us trying to make. It's forcing the commentary down people's throat and making one-sided characters. Additionally, the endings to most of the eps are bad. I guess Donald Glover is too old to be creative now.
The Power of the Dog (2021)
The ending ruines the movie
A good movie ruined by a naive but poetic ending. Made me hate the kid. Should've been a western call me by your name of sorts but not to be. I don't get how the kid didn't know it was not ok and I feel that cutting dead animals doesn't make you a doctor just a psycho.
Yellowstone (2018)
Butterfly effect esque
Someone is dead or close to death in 1 in every 5 scenes. That is no way to write a proper show and the characters are unnecessarily unlawful and unjust. Kevin Costner is the one thing holding the show up. It has very good elements but they are not built up, only more random acts of awfulness happen to the characters similar to the movie The Butterfly Effect. The life expectancy of people in Montana is 78,7 years, not 40. The characters are too dumb and their ulterior motive is often too obvious and simple.
Mare of Easttown (2021)
Good not great
This is a good show, not great. The reason is that the story is not earned enough. The characters sometime feel too naive and lack a sense of skepticism in their reasoning. This is glaring in the scenes when the grandma allows the former girlfriend to stay in her home, when Mare publicly accuses her husband of sleeping with the victim, and when Mare plots a revenge on the birthmother of her grandson. Other than that, the world is well built and you have a sense of understanding the relationships and tension between the characters.
Uncut Gems (2019)
Claustrophobic headache
It's a chaos. The characters are annoying and make unearned bad decisions. I would compare this movie to Thhe Butterfly Effect because, like that movie, it's only purpose is to maximize human awfulness, this movie maximizes anxiety. Pretty bad acting by most involved and the movie lacks all elegance in shooting. Charming is not a word I would use to describe the Adam Sandler character. He is anxious, screaming, whining and annoying. I am disgusted by everyone who remotely likes this movie.
