Ripley (2024)
Cinematography is amazing - Hitchcock would be proud
First of all - I have seen the movie with Matt Damon about 10 times and liked the thrill of figuring out how he was going to get out of the web Tom had entangled himself in. The depth of Matt Damon was fantastic. This version based on the same character was mesmerizing. Andrew Scott while much older seemed believable as an older Ripley going after a wayward son of a rich family. I know some people thought it was a distraction but he was believable as the character. Every shot was meticulously crafted and immersed me in the Italian culture. I found myself rooting for Tom to get away with whatever predicament he got himself into - almost felt sorry for him. The story is great- but the way this version was shot was epic. If you love cinematography - this is one for the record books. Reminded me of Capite and how it was filmed. A definite must see series who appreciate films.
Frasier (2023)
Great Frasier
Don't understand the bad reviews. I think it may be too witty for some people that's why they don't like it. Love the quips and comedy timing. Bringing in old characters from the series is too funny.
The episode with the 2 dates was hilarious and special guest star was great. The bar has become the new cheers and with the camaraderie like the old show. Kelsey's delivery of his jokes is very funny and storyline of the son Freddie and parallel to his father and son is the best. First episode reference to the dad/grandfather was great. Was missing some fun comedies on tv. Kelsey's sidekick is great as a replacement for the dad too. Renew for a second season please.
The Reluctant Traveler with Eugene Levy (2023)
Funny, beautifully Edited, side I'll never see
Some reviews on here are missing the point. Most of us will never get to see these places he stays at which I found wonderful! If he didn't do the show I would never know they existed. Yes expensive, yes wonderfully decadent, so enjoy it and enjoy Eugene's humor. Wonderful witty comments about places unknown to most people. Why read into the commentating and meaning. I loved watching a travel show that has a new viewpoint. The places he stays at are expensive but most of the stuff he does are not. So stay at your own hotel and take in the sites and sounds of his exploration. Take in the humor, the fears he has and being uncomfortable. And get comfortable with this show! A winner!
Vikings: Valhalla (2022)
One to watch - even got my hubby hooked!
Season 1 was great for building the characters and storyline, but season 2 delved deeper into the religious aspect of the time period and the different clans that made up the people. The cinematography is epic and the acting is great! It's a series that is such a nice choice among all the dark comedies and horror movies being made. The costuming and scenery and staging is very authentic. I know the series takes some grief for straight teeth, and hair that is done but who cares it's nice to watch. I especially liked the story line between Lief and the woman he learns from. There are many twists and turns that will keep you interested. A definite one to watch if you like
Historical drama.
Three Pines (2022)
Disappointing Ending - so ridiculous
My husband and I watched this over the course of a week and was intrigued by how the policeman solved each murder. The setting was fun to watch and we like the Canadian filmed shows. As we were watching we were thinking people gotta get out of this town. It's doomed. So many loose ends as the story went on and on. Then get to the end and the detective doesn't see what's coming? Was very disappointed that this man solved so many murders but couldn't have rhe forethought if this own? Haven't read the books but feel like this makes the viewer looks stupid. We feel we wasted a whole week. Don't watch it.
The People We Hate at the Wedding (2022)
Jainey and platt are the best!
I'm not a huge fan of kristen Bell. She is literally everywhere. But I love Alison Jainey - she's the best. Some very funny moments in this movie and the relationship between the siblings is clever. Predictable story plots but works. Ben Plato's character was hilarious and the dialogue kept me
Interested. Kristen bell's character has her moments and she's just so darn perfect it's fun to see her in a role that a comedy.
Hollywood needs to make more light comedies - not everyone wants a hard core movie and sometimes you just need something light and fluffy. Overall a good movie to watch on a Sunday afternoon!
The Many Saints of Newark (2021)
GREAT PREQUEL- don't understand bad ratings
Nestled in tonight expecting a prequel to the Sopranos and that is what we got. The movie starts out with narration by Cousin Chris and leads in and focuses mostly on young Tony Soprano's uncle. In typical mafia format there is a lot of murder and crime - not sure what folks are taking about with racial storyline. It was important to what was going on in the country at the time. And added to the building of characters of the family. The 2 hours went by so quickly - hardly noticed it and wanted more. I hope there is a second part with great acting by young Tony Soprano played by Michael Gandolfini.
