The Last Note (2017)

Sensational

As a Turkish person, I like Greek movies. All the rivalry, competition and bitter-sweet fights over baklava, caciki, moussaka and everything else is a result of the common culture built together in a long time.

And war is sad for everyone, but in this one I can better understand how they feel. For me, a scene was showing a lot. While German soldiers are eating silently, Greek prisoners were playing music and dancing under tough conditions. This explains how lively they are. Whatever they are going through, their life energy does not disappear.

Going to death proudly and eyes wide open is something which can not be understood easily without knowing history. We should know life is short and there is no point to fight for simple reasons.

Emotional and sensational movie! Scenario could be improved, but good enough to feel the history.

All kind of coincidences

The title of the move is 'Love likes coincidences', so this is a love story based on coincidences. They are lively, they are sad, they are interesting. The scenario is inspired by a real life story. But there are modifications and fictional additions in the movie.

Apart from the live story, We again see a seperation of Greek-Turkish couple. This part show us how people from both sides had to live their homes. Home, as not only the house they live in, but also the whole neighborhood they grew up. When they were leaving, they said 'we had to go, even though we know that we would be strangers even there'.

Great masters show up in the movie as side characters, which makes it even more worthwhile for seeing. Definitely recommended.

Too much grief

I could not evaluate the movie properly, since it is not easy to watch. It might be a real story, or even if not, we know that there are the same stories happening in several houses.

There are violent scenes, including child or woman violence. When watching, I thought something should be done. I know you can not watch every single house, or you can not control every single person. But definitely, some people are not educated enough for marriage or being parents.

Apart from those, the strength of the woman is inspiring. She can stand still against all the difficulties and survive in life. Her determination is motivating to succeed under all circumstances.

This movie mirrors the humans

In this movie you can see sometimes what people are doing to others and sometimes how they attach to each other.

Starts with a confrontation of a son with his father for the sake of love. While some open their gates to them, some others curse them. You can feel the society pressure here. Not only this, but you will feel several emotions like dilemma, loyalty and passion. It focuses on how love can drive us crazy.

Later, you will see how difficult lives our parents had. Poverty, despair, inconveniences. And still they raised their kids in the middle of all this hassle.

Finally, war! Friends, brothers can take position across each other. It is not understandable even other nations attack your country, but how about internal wars? Eventually grief has no nation.

This masterpiece gives a lot of perspectives from our lives from a woman's angle who started life already with no one.

Under the Skin (I) (2013)

No context

Filming, locations and the cast is very good, but the story is poor. Flow is very slow and although there is always a curiosity about what will happen, starts to be boring after some time.

Several other messages could be given about the humanity. She could have different experiences each with a different aspect of being human.

The whole movie is built on the main character and her body which makes the story real weak. Scotland is a good choice which gives a unique and mysterious impression.

This is a good one for whom enjoys dark and slow movies with casual conversations. You can find daily frames from the lives of ordinary people.

Getting rid of small-mindedness

People may hear a lot historical stories and have a point of view from a certain angle. But hearing the same stories from the other side may change that point of view. As the main idea of the movie, when you start to understand the 'others', you will start looking from a wider angle and having a big mind. Fanaticism does not help anything but only losing friends and lovers. A Greek person can be a good person as a Turkish person can. It is that simple. Life does not worth fighting.

Eventually, what this movie leaves behind is an unfinished love story which was not allowed by the parents of a young couple who believes a Greek can not marry to a Turkish.

Grief is universal

Not easy to watch, heavy and heartbreaking. How people can do these to same kind. What kind of rage this is, what kind of psychology to overlook what they are doing. The reason is? Religion, race, nation, gender or whatever. Forget about all these, we are all human. And the sides of this fight could be the other way round, think. We use our brains, or maybe our hearts.

There is pain all around the world. As if there was in ancient times, still in modern time. Nothing changed, people are killing same kind. Most of them, we even don't know, or already get used. Yeah, no one is complaining any more.

It perfectly reflects deep inside of a stressed, lonely and demotivated spirit. We see how one handles silently all the challenges coming upon herself brutally. Maybe reminds us that Everyone has a limit, don't forget and push hard on others mindlessly. If one does not refuses much, it doesn't mean that she has no feelings. We all have potential motives which arises under convenient circumstances.

Sometimes you try to pull someone close to you to construct a unity in a population. But so what? Personally I don't like stories without a powerful end.
