Dying Breed (2008)
7/10
"I feel so hungry for flesh"
9 November 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Some people don't like this movie already, what's not to like? Shot for 3 million, more than Wolf Creek (1 million), shot with the same cameras as Wolf Creek and unique story for an Australian movie.

Basically the movie's about 4 people, presumably science geeks, as they try to find the extinct Tasmanian Tiger and the lead girl's sister, who presumably drowned 8 years ago. What i did like about this film, not the sex scene, but the build up to the on and off screen violence but the lack of music is what doesn't make this film come to life like many others. Nerida Tyson Chew, who we have heard from the "Twisted" series one and two, tries more subtly to put his music through noises, like Francois Tetaz did in Wolf Creek. Jody Dwyer shot the movie a bit too stylish, with the camera looming in on more close up shots, feeling a little too claustrophobic.

Leigh Whannell's character (Matt) was the most quiet character out of the lot, which i didn't like at all, Nathan Philips character (Jack) was the most offensive but the most funny of the pack, the Ruth and Bec characters who go with them, they do alright, but Bec dies too quickly. The cannibals of the town give a good performance across the board, enjoying some good raw meat, courtesy of Justin Dix, who did some nice makeup effects on this show, if put into the right direction, could be the next John Carl Buechler.

The ending of Dying Breed is a strange one but nonetheless a shocker, which it felt like it had a few too many endings, but once it did end i felt better because the little girl in the film was creepy. Not everyone will like this film, but i'm a supporter of good Aussie films and this one goes on my shelf in 6 months time, good work.

Rated MA15+ for Violence, Gore, Language and a Sex Scene.

Nice Aussie Nostalgia piece
6 November 2008
I heard of this film about 6 months ago when Tarantino said that "it's the best Aussie exploitation film" i had to see what it was about. I am only a young guy but i appreciated the whole funeral scene on the F3, made me feel like i was actually there and could feel the bridge between the old generation who knew of this film to my generation who know nothing of this film. Sandy Harbutt used whatever he could find to make this film on such a budget could hardly be done now. Action stunts, a tad of gore, nudity and language are expressed in the film as a tad silly and over the top but it's suited for the time-frame the movie was shot in, isn't that what Exploitation is all about? Violence, Sex and Gore/Language? Barely any plot to move a story like this going? Well i thought of it that way since i am into my Cult/Exploitation and Horror, but it's good to see old Aussie films like this gem truly exist for people like us to see. A friend of mine from work knew who the spray painter of the cars was in this movie and still knows him today, so i got more of a profound idea of where this movie was shot, in NSW. Go out and see this film, low on plot and acting but high on emotions and nostalgia, Great work Sandy Harbutt.

Now this is the movie of my dreams
6 June 2007
Warning: Spoilers
About bloody time they made a movie of this impact, the sad ending and lots of nasty gore. The prequel of Texas Cahinsaw Massacre "Remake" starts off with Leatherface being born and abandoned at a slaughterhouse and Luda Mae takes him in. The family is the main characters, the supportive characters are 2 brothers, Eric and Dean with their girlfriends, travelling to join the Vietnam Army and they bump into the Hewitt family, but you know what happens now. The filmmakers were really courageous with concocting this formula for the Prequel but it was to be expected because how else were they meant to start their killing spree over a few years. John Laroquette comes back for one last chat about the Hewitt family, no one can match his voice for the Texas Chainsaw Franchise. Watch it if you like sad endings at the end of horror movies.

"You Know, You're Too Easy"
6 June 2007
Warning: Spoilers
I came across this title and thought "Bloody Hell, another crappy teen movie", How wrong i was yet again, i finished watching it and thought "An independent young adult movie WITH smarts and likable characters, like Dean (Justin Long, from the TV Show Ed and Dodgeball) with a life changing decision, Monty (Rayn Reynolds, from Blade: Trinity, with not so muscular body) who's "edgy and cool, yeah. You're the smartest kid with Down Syndrome" but has sexual problems, Serena (played by Anna Faris, from The Hot Chick, which she is incredibly hot) who gave up on Monty's sexual lack of prowless, Raddimus (Luis Guzman, from Anger Management) inventing the "penis showing game" and Bishop (Chi McBride, from I, Robot and many other titles) who is the councillor of the group just make up half the likable characters with Mitch, making an incredible "Speech" at the end of the movie. All restaurants should and could be like this if everyone have their own sort of" penis showing game". Enjoy this already Cult Status, even though it's not horrific in any way, but Cult like American Pie. Enjoy! Rated MA15+ For Language, Sexual References and Drugs

Bone Sickness (2004 Video)

Unrated Bone Sickness is Awesome!
28 March 2007
Warning: Spoilers
*Abriged Version* Looking around shops and picked up Bone sickness online, fell in love with it, satisfied my tastes in Gore. What we have here is a film with no boundaries on the zombies, gore factor and scariness, well maybe not scariness. Favourite gore moments, one of them was the goblin giving half a head to another goblin, classic. Zombie in the pool for some underwater action was bad wink wink and another one was the amount of arterial spray concerned with almost all the killings, Great work guys! Who cares about the acting, lighting, script and/or story, compare this to DeadlySpawn and you see you got the exact same movie, transfer aliens to zombies and Voila! A nice laid back gore-feast Yummy! and shutting down the brain will cause you to be in an uproar over this film. Can't wait for Bone Sickness 2!

If rated in Aussie in Unrated form, it'd be Banned he he, but my Rating is R18+ for Strong Violence and Gore.

Still one of my favourite Foreign films!
24 September 2006
If you have seen this, great that you did, if you haven't seen this read this before you make snappy decisions. The plot is one that is straight-forward but has nice moments, a group of nine people trapped in a theatre due to unforeseen circumstances with Irving Wallace trapped with them, dismembering each of them one by one. Gore hounds will like this, Thrills a plenty, Great use of colour and musical score, as seen in Dario Argento's Suspiria, Tenebrae and Opera. Dubbing as quite good for a low budget foreign film since they did run into huge budgetary problems with post production. Make sure you get the Anchor Bay release as this is the uncut form, everything else is cut if i am correct. Australians, watch the cut Video release then compare with Anchor Bay DVD. Michele Soavi has done one polished film to remember for ages to come and i mean AGES! Rated R18+ (cut AND uncut) for Language, Violence and Gore

Wolf Creek (2005)

This movie is gut-wrenching, powerful and "from the Top-End"
24 December 2005
Warning: Spoilers
I saw this movie not too long ago, considering i am 18 and allowed to see it publicly and what an experience!, my first R rated movie to see at cinemas. This movie had some great colour tones throughout the entire movie, the rustic look, the grim look for the torture scenes, and capturing the outback in all it's might, it was magical to see the colours on Digital Video. The gore was a little too much to bear, considering how real it looked, you heard me, REAL!. Mick Taylor was funny when we first see him, but a maniac when he turns psycho, we never liked him anyway. "30,000 Australian disappear every year, 90% of them return, Some are never seen again", what a powerful quote to appear before the movie starts, gets you thinking. The acting was terrific, considering the harsh conditions the film crew went under. It's like 28 Days later, but more true, more Aussie and there's no virus. If you want to see it, see it AFTER all the fun and games and be prepared to have a strong stomach, mine just survived and i have above average stomach to withstand gore and torture on screen. Not for little teenagers, give them nightmares, so you know.

I'll always love this movie!!!
23 December 2005
Warning: Spoilers
I have watched this movie since i was 3 years old and this movie never gets old on me. The surrealistic looks of the castle, the bright colours of the townspeople and the plot of socialising with a man who has never been outside of the castle gates and adapting to our way of life, it still thrills me. The violence doesn't occur until the end but still dramatic and frightening because of Edawrd protecting Kim. The music in this movie is memorable, Danny Elfman always does a very good job with the choir on this one, Jerry Goldsmith is another person who does just as good as Danny Elfman. The Photography by Stefan Czapsky, from Child's Play, captures the atmosphere of the whole movie, but not so great on CP 2. If you haven't seen this movie yet, SEE IT!!! i recommend it to the highest order, you'll laugh (maybe), you'll cry for Edward and Kim, you'll despise Jim and have a good time.

Crackers (1998)

This movie is underrated, badly
23 December 2005
I'll starts by saying that this comedy is great, might be crude, but hey, this is my type of festive Christmas comedy for me. The characters remind me of the Simpsons, but flipped to be the Australian family from hell, with unusual antics which no normal family would encounter, ever!, especially how the dog gets torched by the Barbie, or the business with the chickens. I always liked Jack, as the mean grandpa, with a black heart against drugs and bugs, we know why we hates bugs (winking). Well, if you don't want to upset your Christmas pudding this Christmas, avoid this, but watch it AFTER Christmas pudding, you'll "crack" up with hysterics, it's like comparing Bad Santa but with a family situation and no security chief with a smarta** for a kid and, without the F word. This movie puts Australians back on our turf.

Shadow Fury (2001)

This film deserves more credit *may contain spoilers*
4 April 2005
Warning: Spoilers
This film is quite rare to find in the genre of action/sci-fi but once you see it, you'll find out why it is so different than other cliché films of it's type. It is sometimes predictable but you will feel sympathetic for the main character even though he isn't real. All the fight sequences rip off Jackie Chan movies but they are executed with raw intelligence. We see that Michell has troubles with his liver but the main character kills himself with Kismet to give up his life so he could save Mitchell. It might seem a little cruddy for a film like this one but it does make you feel for something that isn't real let alone makes you want to feel anything for the characters. If you have time, watch this film and you'll be surprised, like me, on how much emotion is packed into an action/sci-fi film.

It's not bad at all
21 March 2005
I watched this a couple of days ago and it's not bad as people might say it is. I know the special effects aren't great but for a very low budget you'd expect that kind of thing to happen. The comedy was stupid but hilarious and the acting wasn't bad to my standards. This is a good film if you're into sexual references and bad special effects. I could watch this over and over again if i had the time. Come on, give this film a chance to survive and watch it while shutting off you logical side of your brain and get a few good laughs out of this old movie even though it spoofs a few popular movies.

This movie should be well known *Possible Spoilers*
11 October 2004
Warning: Spoilers
This movie i watched about 2 weeks ago and knew nothing about it except it had Jackie Chan in it. After i watched this movie, i was holding my sides from splitting because it was so funny. The fight scenes were very inventive and also very funny especially when Bruce Lee helps him to fight 2 big black guys and then thanks him and Bruce Lee says "You're Welcome" that line was hell funny. The girls in this movie were a sight for sore eyes and i couldn't believe that Saeba didn't get with the chick he was taking care of for his friend who died. There was only one problem i had watching this movie was that it wasn't well known and i thought "This movie was the best movie I've seen in ages but it wasn't well known". I recommend this movie who likes Jackie Chan movies like me but then again i have always liked Action/Comedy like Demolition Man. My rating 10 out of 10 (highly recommended)

It could of been better *Possible Spoilers*
9 October 2004
Warning: Spoilers
I had high expectations before i watched this and after it, i thought "Goddamn. i thought it would be better". Everybody is seemingly comparing this movie to Freddy Vs. Jason as "Trying to make some quick cash". The movie did give a sense of claustrophobia to me but only for 5 minutes and the rest of it was to cover up any good decent action. i can't blame Paul W.S. Anderson for trying but i do blame the people who accepted his script. The predator vision in this movie is a enhancement but you only saw what the predator wanted to see apart from that it looks pretty good. The cast was alright even though the main characters are new to Hollywood but i did like the killing of Charles Bishop Weyland even though it could of been more inventive. The plot was alright to my taste but it did lack a certain finesse but it was still alright and the little creature that bursts out of the predator means that ANOTHER movie is coming which might be boring. Apart from the flaws in this movie, it's alright to watch but just for hard core fans will enjoy it and I'm not a hard core fan but i still enjoyed it to a degree. My rating 6 maybe 7 out of 10

Commando (1985)

Fundamentally flawed but still one of Arnie's best
16 June 2004
Commando (*** out of 5) this movie is funny, action packed and full of mistakes that anyone can notice. Arnie with his one-liners are soooo funny. The way and how he says them are just fabulous and just a Laugh Out Loud thing. I would like to credit James Horner (the composer of this film) for his work on the music score on this film it's just a terrific score to me anyways but other people have different opinions. How can shrubs and bushes protect Arnie from the bullets of the other soldiers? Hmm me thinks it would be a mistake of course. Bill Duke should of got a much larger role in this movie because seeing him on film is just fantastic (considering he had such a small role) his fight with Matrix is cool and getting to see other peoples business is so funny.

this movie is the best
12 June 2004
i first hired this from Blockbuster and i must say that this movie took my breath away. The gore, the acting AND the martial arts was so COOL and i have to say that i didn't know nothing about this movie until i got it. i won't spoil it for you so i'll not say no more. Quentin Tarantino did an fantastic job on this movie and the only other time i have EVER heard from him was when he co-starred with George Clooney in From Dusk Till Dawn. i do wish that No1 and No2 were put together though which would of made this movie even better. The plot was the only problem with me, the plot was about revenge but that was a minor flaw with the movie but apart from that this is a movie worth considering.
