Army of the Dead (2021)
SOMETIMES LESS IS MORE
I'm only giving this movie a 10/10 to counter those review bombing it with 1-star reviews. It's actually a 7/10 at best.
The first 40 minutes and the last hour are the best parts of the movie. It's the stuff in between that kinda drags the movie to the point where you kinda feel exhausted by the time it really starts to pick up in the last hour. The dialogue in between is not necessarily bad but it does very little to advance the plot of the story. Another minor nitpick is some lines were also not delivered very well. Otherwise Snyder's action great (action is always his biggest strength), and for the most part the cinematography is good.
They could have focused a little bit more on the zombies too. I wish we could have seen them even organizing themselves in packs and hunting the human characters, picking them off one by one.
IT'S A SOLID FLICK OVERALL. IT DOES NOT DESERVE THE 1 STAR REVIEWS.
Justice League (2017)
WHY Warner Brothers.....WHY?
The film was okay. Definitely not bad. How I wish Warner Brothers experimented with more standalone films before they finally got to Justice League. As a big DC fan, I was a bit let down. 2hours was definitely not enough to put this film's story across. There were great plot points but everything just seemed to go by too quickly. Henry Cavill's CGI upper lip was very distracting, and his superman- even though I really liked him- but he was just too powerful for Steppenwolf, or maybe Steppenwolf was the one who was too weak for the story they were going for. For someone who wanted to destroy the world, I think he wasn't menacing enough. Ray Fisher was great as Cyborg, I liked Gal Gaddot as Wonder Woman, Mamoa as Aquaman, and even Miller as the flash. But I didn't like how the flash runs in this movie....his legs move in a weird way. Batfleck owned his role obviously. There were great moments in the film, especially when Superman returns and meets the team for the first time. Loved his reunion with Louise and his Mom, and I'm really looking forward to where this universe will go.
The first credits scene didn't do anything for me (I thought they'd both run instead of Superman flying). Many scenes in the trailer were not in the movie, and I feel like there was more to this film than what we get to see. The CGI also needed more polishing. It's definitely getting a lot more hate than it deserves. I really feel sorry for Zack Snyder...I know the backlash he gets from people will definitely affect his confidence as a director, especially for DCEU films and his vision of it.
I give this movie a 6.5/10. An argument can be made for 7/10. Anyone giving this movie more than a 7/10 is not being completely honest with themselves. I really looked forward to this movie, but the theatrical release hasn't done much for me. Definitely a forgettable movie.
All Eyez on Me (2017)
No Eyez on You...
To be honest, this movie gets way too much hate than its supposed to. Judging from the trailers, and Biggie's biography, this was not something i was going to see on the theater. I was really let down by biggies biography so my expectations were not that high for this movie. I saw it last week, almost a month after it hit theaters and I have to say I was neither too let down nor was i impressed. The movie showed me what I already knew about Tupac, and i didn't see anything worth all the hype LT Hutton put into this movie. Apart from some things being pointed out as being false by Jada and others who were close to Tupac, you can get an actual first hand account of the events highlighted in this movie from documentaries and videos in YouTube. The people who developed the script for this movie did not in any way bother themselves with showing us detailed events in Pac's life, and every scene seemed to be missing something once we jumped to another scene. Even though he did his best, Shipp wasn't really convincing as Pac, and most of the acting in the movie was sloppy. Kat was okay as Jada. What annoyed me the most was Snoop's voice over. It was just stupid. On overall, the movie could have been better, especially considering the caliber of the person it revolved around. Tupac was a great story teller and poet, and he deserves to be rightfully acknowledged. He wasn't perfect, but he made the most out of the little time he had on this earth to do all the good he could for himself and those he cared for. I really hope that someday the right studio will actually buy the rights to make these biographies about artists and completely invest themselves in creating a rap movie universe. That way there wouldn't be any inconsistencies. In my view Straight Outta Compton was a great start, and the next movie should have picked up from where it left off, with the same actors reprising their roles where necessary.
Wonder Woman (2017)
Awesome!!
I'd like to think that i was one of the few who were not really looking forward to this film. The trailers did nothing to spark my interest and it almost looked like Gal would not deliver. Boy was I wrong! Wonder Woman has pretty much everything superhero movies of today seem to have forgotten about. It has heart, and it really makes you care so much about what Diana is going through and what is happening around her. Yes the CGI did look corny in some scenes but I'd like to believe that this was overshadowed by the story telling and character development. This was a big step up for Gal Gadot, and Chris Pine definitely owned the role of Steve Trevor. All the supporting cast, apart from a few issues, did almost everything right to add on to the chemistry between the two leading characters. I loved the portrayal of "Themyscira" (I hope I spelled it right), and the opening fight scene with with the amazonian warriors was great. The pacing was just about okay, and the directing was almost perfect. As far as superhero movies go, I'll give this a 10/10. Way to go DC!!
Boyka: Undisputed IV (2016)
As good as expected...
I see so many people bashing this movie for reasons that are uncalled for. I personally liked it. There was not much in terms of a great story but on overall I think the film writers did well in what they brought out in the film. Boyka is out of prison and still trying to exert his dominance in the world of fighting. He finally gets the opportunity to get into the "big leagues" and he fights an almost equally tough and hungry guy. Things unfold and the guy dies, and this sets off a chain of events that see Boyka try and redeem himself because he blames himself for the guy's death. Even though Boyka is mostly a good guy in the film, he still retains his mean demeanor and this is something that Impressed me. Boyka still sticks to his religious beliefs and he's determined to dream on despite what he has done throughout his life. Honestly, I expected more out of this film but i was pleased with what i got. The fighting choreography is still epic as f#@k, and the acting was okay at best. Props to Adkins for embodying the character of Boyka and the Russian accent was also pretty good. Fans of the franchise will definitely like it, and new fans will be curious enough to want to see the previous two undisputed films. On overall i'd give this movie a 6.5/10.
