Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead (2024)
Worth a watch
It's really funny and written for this generation without overly trying to be. The script is good and so are the jokes. It's very much a remake with so many similar aspects of the original. I love that they filmed at the same house and even used the same music. It was so heartwarming and connects both movies so well.
My only cons really is that the original made you believe it was a huge fashion job and fashion show at the end, and in this movie, it falls more flat. The fashion isn't that good and the office just seemed like a set. They didn't have the walking around the factory workers scene so it didn't seem like a full on fashion warehouse. Just seems like the budget wasn't as big so they did the best they could.
It's a worthy remake for sure. The original is just such a classic. All I know is you'll be happy to hear "I'm right on top of that Rose" in theaters.
Suncoast (2024)
Idk what's worse
Idk what's worse? The acting, or the writing?
Seems like Nico only got the role because of her mom being Thandie because the acting chops are just not there. On top of the green acting skills, the writing doesn't make her any better. Every line is delivered like a student film and even with the other actors, the writing just isn't strong. The sets also seem like that, sets. It's definitely a low budget film and if it's not well then idk what they did with their money. The best acting, besides the mom, probably comes from the school girls being high at the party. Overall, seems like you're watching a movie from 2003 or something. Idk. Just didn't entertain me. Kind of confused as to why some people rated the movie so high. Lol.
Madame Web (2024)
Not as bad as the reviews are saying
The movie is good. It's not omg amazing but it's nothing near morbius or the Fantastic Four reboot from the 2010s. It's an origin story and like many origin story movies you kind of want more but it does make you want to see a sequel. There's plenty of action and it is engaging throughout. And Dakota tells the story well.
The movie is set in the 2000's and the movie kind of reflects that also? But I like that it's not heavily CGI like Avengers or something. There's plenty of practical sets and effects which I enjoyed.
The main issue is the villain. He was dubbed over almost the entire movie? What was up with that? Kind of distracting but not a deal breaker. Also the beginning of the movie had choppy edits and fast camera movements that was annoying but thankfully it stopped after like 10-15 minutes.
I hope it makes money and a sequel is made. I'd be excited to see the cast come back in full force.
Also people being annoyed she doesn't use her powers a ton is like?? She just got them and is trying to figure out how they work. I hate when movies make it where all of a sudden the hero is an expert with their powers lol. This movie is realistic.
The Marvels (2023)
Surpasses the Original
This is the first time in awhile that I've enjoyed a Marvel movie in its entirety. I also liked how it felt long enough but wasn't a long marvel movie like the others. The Marvels ensemble are so good together, and a part, and there's plenty of action throughout to see the three of them fight, fly, and switch bodies-which is done very well.
The movie is fun, funny, and action packed. The story is easy to follow too, I think even if you haven't seen much of the others prior.
Kamala's character/actress are a welcome young energy. And her family too!
The cats are cute.
The end credits scene is super exciting as well.
Misanthrope (2023)
Really good
Definitely worth a watch. It's a little long, but there's a lot of action. All of the blood and shooting looks really good and they used a lot of practical effects.
Shailene Woodley delivers once again an exceptional performance and carries the film but the costars are good too. No cheesy lines or acting here. My only complaint is that they filmed it in HD lol. It's a brand new 2023 movie... but it must have been a budget thing. So on my 75in 4K tv it's not the sharpest 4K look of course.
They should have advertised this more because I didn't even know about it, just happened to stumble upon it. Should have premiered in theatres actually!
No Hard Feelings (2023)
Worthy of watching in theatres!
JLaw has never looked so good or been so funny. Her portrayal is authentic and without effort. The comedy is delivered just right to wrap you in with its heartwarming, relatable, and also sad underlining tones.
You're rooting for both main characters. It plays out like a book and is filmed like such but in a really good way.
You'll laugh, have your heart strings tugged, and wonder how the movie will play out. It's also not too long which is a nice plus. It doesn't hit you with the boring king scenes or anything.
Definitely watch it in theatres to get the full experience. Let me write some more so the review is complete lol.
The Little Mermaid (2023)
Best Disney Live Action
This is the best Disney Live Action movie. It's just like the original and not some weird live action retelling. It's authentic and true to the OG story with more character development. Halle was born for this role and each actor executes their character so well. Melissa was an amazing Ursula and Prince Eric fit so well.
The wardrobe was on point too!!
The singing is phenomenal. A real looking Flounder and Sebastian just works and makes sense too-I was hesitant on the character posters at first but they happily proved me wrong!
How beautiful to see such a diverse cast. Seeing the ethnic kids after the movie take photos with the movie poster was so cute. I can't imagine how they feel seeing an ethnic Ariel! We've come a long way!!
Kiss the Girl was such a beautiful scene. Felt like a fairytale.
Fast X (2023)
Better than Fast 9.
Okay yes they're still superhuman and there's still defying gravity things going on. Sometimes silly but at the same time this is what we have come to expect from these movies so we might as well move on and just take these movies for what they are at this point. That silly stuff aside...
The movie isn't as bad as the reviews state? I mean they did a lot of history to now connections which I thought was cool and they tied in A LOT of characters. Old and new. It seemed like everyone got their own fight scene which was cool and the action is definitely there. When did these normal LA people/street racers become the best fighters ever idk? Haha but they are. I overall enjoyed the story and there's obviously more to come to tie up loose ends. Jason and Brie are great additions to the franchise. Jason's character was funny and he seemed to have fun playing the role. I'd like to see more of Brie and Jordana involved/fighting/driving in the next one. Although Jordana's character always here without Brian seems so unlikely if all this was happening to Dom but obviously get why Brian is not in the picture.
Things I didn't enjoy tho: the rolling ball bomb rolls on for like 30 mins or more!? It's ridiculous. Lol that got so boring like watching a John wick fight that just won't end. But the rest of the movie was well paced. Obviously "family" has been the tone but it's a little much in this movie lol family this and family that. We get it. U don't need to say it 50 times. Also the fact that the Fast family HAVE TO be the ones to like save humanity? Lol where are the police and FBI, etc. Their initial motivation to do some of these things are lacking. Some CGI is SOOOO BAD. Like the blue? Plane towards the end didn't look remotely real. The digital deaging was a bit distracting sometimes. Jumping into cars is looking more fake too lol. But I mean overall it was enjoyable. Not the best one of course but better than Fast 9.
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always (2023)
Appreciate it for what it is
What's nostalgic is the way it's written honestly. It's very much like the 90's show. Which can be good or bad depending on how you look at it.
It's not a 2010's version that's darker or more serious. The budget isn't amazing. The story is simple. It's not what draws us into movies nowadays where we're now accustomed to really good superhero films and such. But it kind of works. It's pretty kid friendly but the audiences that will truly appreciate the cast and story are those that are a fan of the OG, and I think that's exactly who they made this film for. It's a blast from the past and a tug at your heartfelt childhood heroes. It's pretty cool seeing the cast back with some better CGI all these years later. It's really cool actually. Who would have thought?! The costumes look amazing and slightly upgraded yet adhere to the original. The morphing and teleporting transitions are flawless.
Is it going to be omg amazing? Not really but they don't act like it's going to be either. I think they knew the material they were aiming for and succeeded nicely.
The nods to the previous generations, those that have passed away, and keeping the original overall tone is the best way to honor the original MMPR.
They didn't finesse the story, or characters in a way that would disappoint. They're all good people still, and care about one another. And their actual love for one another shows. Thanks for making this film for us 90's kids! I wouldn't mind a sequel to be honest!
Praise This (2023)
Pitch Perfect goes to church!
Anjelika slays as a comedy powerhouse. Without her character the movie just wouldn't land as well! The movie will make you laugh and feel joy. It's just such a feel-good movie. And don't worry if you're not a gospel lover! Neither is Chloe's character! Lol it's church choir meets Nicki Minaj. Literally haha
Definitely stream it on Peacock. The singing is great too. Probably one of the best Peacock Original movies to be released. I'd love to see where a Praise This, Again -a sequel, would go. I think they've just scratched the surface on these characters and there's more for them to grow and more competitions to compete in!
Scream VI (2023)
WOW!!! 10/10
Literally amazed with this movie. It's so good. The kills, the suspense, the chase scenes! It gives you everything you could have wanted and more. Especially if you're a Scream fan! So many nods to the previous films and Easter eggs. The core 4 are stunning. Legacy characters have good screen time. The script and acting is so good. I think this is the best of the franchise. It's a scary movie for sure. My heart was beating the whole time. A must watch for in the theater! The setting in NYC really makes for future films to not be in Woodsboro because the core 4 and Kirby and Gale ARE Woodsboro. It just works!!
Scream (2022)
So freaking good!!
I have been an absolute fan of the Scream franchise since I was little and this new Scream is such a great addition. It's written so well, full of intense death scenes, and literally takes you back to the first film. Can't wait for more.
There's Someone Inside Your House (2021)
Really good!
I was pleasantly surprised by this movie! Not only was it actually kind of scary in some scenes, it was full on slasher. Great editing and cinematography too. Seemed high budget and I approve! I love horror movies and idk what these bad reviews are saying.
Freaky (2020)
SO FREAKY-ING GOOD!!
This movie is everything a horror fan could also for. It has its meta moments, it's scary and Friday the 13th-esque, but also funny. And it's with the times but pays homage to classic horror movie antics. It's so fun. So well written and exudes many powerful moments. If you love Happy Death Day, you'll love this!
The Craft: Legacy (2020)
Ok this movie is not bad at all!
I'm a huge fan of the original let me start off. This movie has so many elements of the first. A ton of homages and similar elements. But this one actually has like a story intertwined within the story of The Craft. It does use more magic in the sense of powers whereas the original Craft didn't use special effects. This one lines more in the department of Charmed meets the Craft in that aspect but I really enjoyed it and the connection to the original character was awesome to see. I can totally see a sequel occurring. You'll like it. It's not a remake. Don't judge it like it's trying to replace the original. It's a good movie!
Charlie's Angels (2019)
Don't listen to the bad reviews!
Honestly I was really looking forward to this movie, but also a bit worried it may disappoint, and it definitely did NOT disappoint! The movie is so action packed and full of fighting and I was thoroughly impressed. There's a twist and a solid story, and an awesome expansion of the Townsend agency. The acting is superb. Just overall really well done and makes me excited to see where this franchise can go. It felt like I was watching a high quality girls James Bond type of film whereas the previous ChAngels movies were action but also a little CGI/campy/silly (even tho I loved those too haha)

Black and Blue (2019)
So good! (V confused by the bad reviews)
I really liked this movie. The acting. The action. All so good. Yeah there are some iffy moments with cinematography or maybe a few points in the story that are just good, but I'm a film buff so I pay too close attention to that stuff. The overall movie is really good and I highly recommend! :)
Charmed (2018)
Confused by all the hate
I'm a diehard Charmed fan and when I saw this trailer, I wasn't too impressed to be honest, but unlike a lot of people--I wanted to judge after the pilot came out. Verdict: thoroughly impressed!! Although SOME CGI elements are tbh worse than the original (which was in the 90's, come on CW!! CW nowadays, always has cheesy effects..a network thing, not the show!) but the show was good and I see so much more potential too. The other element I'm not a huge fan of is the obvious women rights/feminism lines. Like, we get it..women are powerful and deserve a voice, but the original had those elements without throwing it in your face ya know?
The story is engaging and there were huge nods to the original pilot which was cool. The acting will obviously get better as the show progresses. Most shows take almost half a season to start getting comfortable, but it's not terrible by any means! A lot of people are hating for no reason?? lol. It's a great reboot. If you want the original, watch the original!
Dark Phoenix (2019)
Kind of confused with the bad reviews??
Obviously the story is in the same realm because um. It's about the Phoenix lol again?? But it's just better. I thought the movie was full of action and powers being used by every mutant with enough screen time unlike some previous movies. I did kind of want more but not in the sense that the movie was bad, but that I wish the Disney merger didn't knock out the possibilities of a sequel. I want to see more from these characters with these actors. I enjoyed it. It's probably the best X-Men movie of the newer ones. If you like X-Men, you'll enjoy this movie. Just go in wanted to have fun. Don't get so worked up over the timelines from the past movies and the new movies.
Captain Marvel (2019)
Thoroughly confused by the bad reviews??
This movie has SO much action, and backstory, and heart, and powers and fighting and comedy!! It's literally the top of the best Marvel movies yet. I liked it so much more than I thought I would, and I wanted to see it.

Upgrade (2018)
REALLY GOOD
Such a good story and action and ending! A twist for sure. I saw this at a screening awhile back when it was called STEM (better name in my opinion) and I thoroughly enjoyed it and would definitely recommend.
The Strangers: Prey at Night (2018)
BEYOND EXPECTATIONS
This is beyond amazing for a sequel. I was so impressed with it all. The beginning was a little slow but that was the case for the original too. The music is perfect. The cinematography. The acting of the kids! My absolute new favorite slasher! And I love horror movies.
I wanna watch it again
Stays very true to the original with familiar elements. Doesn't disappoint. Go see!!
