3 Body Problem (2024)
Really good
I think it's important to begin my review by saying that I have not read the books. I'm sure that the impact and reception of the show will differ for those who have read them.
With that said, this show is amazing. It's rare for a show to suck me in and have me as curious about what happens next as this show has. That's really all I have to say, I don't want to spoil the plot for anyone.
Wade is probably my favorite character so far. I love that dry British humor

The Consultant (2023)
Strong Start, Weak Finish
I recently binged this show over the course of a couple days. I rate it a 6, slightly above average. It is based on a book I believe--I haven't read it for the record. I want to begin by saying the plot just didn't really make sense to me both in terms of how it progresses and how it ends. I am not against leaving stories open-ended or ambiguous. Sometimes leaving it to the viewers to interpret or imagine in their heads is a powerful tool, but in this case it does not work well. There is not enough information provided to the viewer to make sense of the ending in a satisfying way in my opinion.
As I have seen some other reviews mention, Christopher Waltz does a great job and I found his character humorous and well-acted, but he alone cannot make a confusing story make sense. There is one interpretation that the show does seem to hint at, but I don't know how to describe it other than unsatisfying and very surface-level.
Some other slight issues I had were that like the premise that eventually gets explained of why the consultant is there didn't make much sense to me unless the show takes place in a universe full of overly naive people. People committing huge criminal acts and the authorities apparently don't really care. The show is about a video game company, but the game they make look like it's a game from 2010. I could easily look past issues like these if in service of receiving a good story, but the payoff just wasn't there for me. My review may seem harsh but overall, it is worth a watch because it is visually entertaining and it starts off strong.
The Batman (2022)
Decent movie but some glaring issues
I'm just going to list off the things I disliked. The whole movie is filmed too dark-lighting issues. The plot doesn't really make that much sense. The Riddler's motives are weird. The catwoman romance stuff is too forced. Somehow this batman is simultaneously emo, reclusive, and never works out yet is macho with superhuman strength and stamina. He also has some type of bulletproof armor that can eat multiple point blank shotgun blasts with 0 damage to him. Also 3 hours is too long.
Other than that, it's interesting and I like the comic book feel of it. The action scenes seemed real. Didn't seem like too excessive CGI. Worth a watch and I would watch a sequel probably, but not the best batman.
Lazzaro felice (2018)
Worth the watch
This movie did not go at all as I expected. I think that it is a bit stronger in the first half but overall good. Made me sad in the end.
Captain Fantastic (2016)
Full of itself and full of plotholes
This movie has some redeeming qualities but for me it's watchability is completely destroyed by the constant plot holes and inconsistencies throughout the film. For example, the kids have lived in an isolated forest their entire lives yet the youngest son wants to know why they don't celebrate Christmas like the other kids. Why would you ever care about that if all you've ever known is your own special family holidays? The kids are reading Dostoyevsky and Trotsky and other extremely difficult books yet they've had no formal education and are only ages like 11-17. They claim to despise Christians yet when a police officer pulls them over the elder son somehow knows prayer and breaks out into a Christian song, I'm not sure how they would know that.
There's so many more little things like this that constantly ruined my suspension of disbelief and peeved me. Maybe others aren't bothered by these flaws, but they seem so fixable to me. So many of the issues could have been avoided by minor dialogue changes, but somehow they didn't care or were missed.
